Yay first on the board NZ time.. Ended up with a Male Dark Elven, Salamander born Necromancer. His parents were poor but loving, he was a childhood credit, watching the adventureres and learning, as a young adult, still a credit to his supporting parents, they helped him on his way to becoming a great Necromancer, giving him the name of a mysterious man, Nonnak - The Scourge of the Damned, and a destinatiion - The Draklor Chain... St:10 Le:13 Wi:14 Dx:17 To:12 Ch:06 Ap:11 Pe:18 Hp/Pp: 18/32 Dv/Pv: 14/04 Chaotic as well, i guessing very chaotic :p Speed:101 Talents> Alert, Miser Starting Equipment: +2 +1 Black Robe +0 +3 Leather Boots Skull Dagger +0 1d4+1 Ring of Cold Res, Frost Bolt book, Scroll Uncursing and amnesia, Potions of: Learning, invis, water and confusion and a wand of teleportation (1 charge), and 84 gold pieces. Will play him a bit later.. Ok played for the afternoon, doing well - excuse grammer errors and the like: Potion of learning was uncursed, so Le:14 now. Used PoInvis to rob *Holeinthewall*, got spellbook of knock, wand of paralyzation and door creation, pendat beauty+2, some food, quarrels of undead slaying(7), and a key. First Kill> Some angry beggar. Chaos Mutant on Pc1, Kane lvl 4, two frost bolts yay ascend lvl 5, trained herbalism cause just found herbs on pc 4, Pc 3 river, but stairs on the same side, phew. After learning the benifits of the recently harvested Herbs, becoming tougher, faster and stronger of mind, knowing of the trials ahead he become 'healthy' at level 6. Just before the final Pcave, a massive cavern, a river bisecting it - and there! just beyond the stairs, an ancient altar - perhaps he could use it to commune with Lol'th, ask for guidance.. The square key stolen earlier fits the very door that leads into this massive cavern, a place to rest unnapossed.. read my scroll of vermin control and converted altar, made level 7, still only have frost bolt, and only a spear, not even a shield yet. St:11 Le:14 Wi:16 Dx:22 To:15 Ch:06 Ap:11 Ma:23 Pe:18 Speed 102 Dv/Pv 17/4 Hp/Pp 40/64 Still happily chaotic :p Niiiice, found fireball, only costs me 16 to cast :) lol'th be praised While journeying back into the towns Kane crossed paths with another of his foul arts, poisoned from a battle with giant spiders.. using his last breath to try and steal kanes own life - but he failed, and Kanes questioning left him none the wiser about this mysterious Nonnak.. leaving the body behind him, he strode towards terinyo - he needed more food, to commune closer to lol'th, he needed guidance.. Bandit town restocked with +4 +0 light cloak, spellbook of StrAtlas, a scroll of defense and melee acuraccy (which Id'd the ones in my pack :p) Sacrificing further, hearing Lol'ths call for souls - Kane killed his first cat - hearing a distant cry of rage Kane smiled gently, soon he would wield more power than any before him.. *KanE* whispered a voice through the cavern, through his mind, his Soul, *I am well Plaesed with yoU* A dark shadow incases kane, as it fades he looks at his feet - a shining green dagger, dripping with poison, *KanE* whispers the voice once more, *Eventually i want Every Soul, every living thing in this Valley - Kill in my Name* Taking up the dagger, Kane walked slowely to the cavern stairs, he was sure he heard a lot of noise earlier - some thing exciting was happening, something great. A great feast was happening, again the river was running through the caverns, some places deeper than Kane could manage> angry now he froze the lakes with his magicks, getting ever closer to the Orcish Feast, if they thought their moat would protect them, then they were wrong, he had the power of lolth within him.. Finally found a shield, large adamantium +10 +03, yay Day Nine, Still in these strange caves - i found the puppy corpse, it stank of innocence, so i burnt it, Hit level 9 as cleaning up the orcs, Aquired a strange "sixth Sense" giving a warning from traps, and such like. Two shops Kane came across, A strange familiar shop bizzarly run by a giant troll.. and a general store run by a friendly enough hurthling - giving much better deals than that pesky human in bandittown.. He would let these ones survive, for now... Asking around about powerful magic users, Kane was told by the Druid of a Dark one of his Order, a black druid.. Kane found himself warming to the man - surely this Keethrax would have some answers for him.. Village Dungeon, Lvl10 St: 13 Le:15 Wi:16 Dx:23 To:15 Ch:06 Ap:11 Pe:18 Dv/Pv 28/10 Hp/Pp 57/94 Speed 83 (bloated and strained Found some great spell books, knock, firebolt*2, teleportation, improved fire ball (keeping to learn later) burning hands, cure disease and acid bolt. Equipment of note: Orcish dagger of Mayhem, to use when i get tired of Serpents Bite Alchemist gloves, RoLuck, and some good basic equipment. Entering the Dark domain of Keethrax, Kane was immediatly incased in darkness and spell and dark creatures came at him from all sides - Fool! Keethrax would not live to answer kanes questions, the Emerald Dagger biting deep into his chest, the toxins doing what Kanes magic could not.. Kane had an over whelming urge to devour his opponents heart- to feast on his power.. Gathering Power from the Druid, kane went to Bandit town - and put it to the torch, killing all and raising the dead as Ghuls to terrorize and Destroy. Am level11, good spells, i think ill make it.. Everyone was easy - except Barnabas - ended up hitting him in Darkness with Serpents bite, then he went all panicy and *many* firebolts later, Kane hits level12, Talent: Stealthy, a creature of Darkness.. Shop loot: wand teleport, light, fire, +4 dv cloak, Str of Atlas Spell (yeeesss) and food. With evil in his eye he looked towards Terinyo, remembering Lol'ths words, That all in the valley should die... First to fall, Blup - via Fireball, but the village rallied against him, the Druid and the Shopkeeper forcing Kane from the village, Their cries of rage as the found the burnt corpse of their pet dragon, and the tiny girl along side it.. "Ill be back!!!!" Screamed Kane "I will kill you All!!" As he entered the Smc, ready to gather power in the caverns below - Kane felt a tingling in his hands, a terrible sense of power was coming from them.. he could feel his hands drawing magic From the wands at his belt.. Looking in his pack for a cure, he pulled out his most prized treasure - a potion that would remove his affliction.. Quaffing it back, he realised one day he'd need to zap a door in front of a beasty - and that it would be the death of him.. The Ud first two levels had forges, an ice storm hurt kane bad, but he got over it, ud3 herbs and a river, Ud8 a scroll shop, no exciting levels.. After a dissapointing run, Kane emerged into the high mountain village - looking around he brought a book of farsight and continued on his way, in the distance he could see the tip of a pyramid, peering from the trees - this would be the home of Rhetep, authour of the Mysterious Note kane had recieved earlier.. I will stop there Kane thought - perhaps Nonnak himself created this horror? The pyramid treasure was a climbing set, some thieve tools and a "fine cloak' Yay invisibility.. Rehtep eneded up being a ancient hero - Surviving by taking others skin, and grafting it onto his own, Taking it with me, along with the ankh- perhaps i can use this information to extend my own life.. So cool, doing well so far.. took my thug ghul from the pyramid down the road back towards terinyo and the burnt out bandit town - attacked by chaos brothers (and sistahs!)firebolt to the max, stopped of a dust cave - prepared self for the battle ahead... Twas a mighty battle, cloaked in invisibility, a night of darkness, poison and fire, at the last only the shop keeper stood - bleeding upon the ashes of his town. Victory was Kanes, Victory for Lol'th. Kane threw out his hand, causing one last fireball - enveloping the man and his building.. Achieved level 15, good timing - dramatic.. got Potent Aura, becoming quite the caster - and dagger expert, Daggers level6, Shields level3 St:16 Le:17 Wi:13 Dx:26 To:16 Ch:06 Ap:11 Ma:29 Pe:19 Chaotic minus dv/pv 39/16 Hp/Pp 99/148 Speed 98, satiated Still using Mayhem knife, serpents bite and adamantium shield, still have my black robe and boots from the start :p Crossing back over the river Kane saw a Cavern twisting down from the middle mountains - feeling drawn to it - sensing some importance kane descended into the Caverns of Chaos.. Pc1: pool, slightly strengthened, snakes and then it dried. These caves had two ways to go, S or D, in the S route was a Black altar covered by an arrow, i stood on it in plain view of kobold and zombie, thankfully nothing happened.. brutal, that wouldve sucked :X Kane spent some time getting closer to Lol'lth - she told him to keep heading down, soon, soon you will have the answers.. A pool on d3 that dried instantly D4 The Arena... Kane looked around, brought 122 cooked lizards (whoa) Then took the arena apart, walking off with the golden gladius, another bloodsoaked scene behind him - oh how he loved the sounds of Chaos - the pleading traders - the furious arena master, master? pah! Souls for Lol'th!! Somehow the Ratling rebel escaped my wrath.. or perhaps he fell upon the acid trap? most likely.. foolish ratlings. D5 Bees! and i now have a quickling ghul, Zzax! Attack!! D11: Dwarf Town!! Shop had Lighntning Bolt Book, some water, poBalance.. Id'd Stuff, PoGAttribs. Take care Kane - tis too early to kill them yet, learn what you can, but do not dally, this place reeks of law, An old gladiator taught me some moves for the Arena Blade that i won, heh - he will rue that decision one day.. Kane goes back to the surface world - gathering power and strength for the Cleansing ahead, killing some strange minstrel in a clearing, Kane looked towards an over grown temple, it looked dangerous - Kane gave it a wide berth for now, he would need much power to search those ruins.. Continuing on, he killed an old barbarian, taking his glade for his own.. After hearing rumours of Power Majicks in the caverns he'd previusly left, Kane decided to go deeper than last time - much further than before.. Kane found Bracers of regen in the DH2, Xxaz Died, unfortunatly he ran off into the the Ani-Forest and got his Fast Ass handed to him.. But I will keep his kind as Slaves - they make good pets.. Coming across a dying sage, Kane saw despair in the mans eyes - here wasn't hope - or salvation, here was death, he had failed in his quest... Kane continued past the corpse - the smell of death was everywhere, welcoming him home - he had found a Deep, Twisted Graveyard, deep within these caves... Kane was revitalised from the undead flesh, only to have his progress halted by a giant stone portal, obviusly of dwarven design... Returning to the Dwarven Bastion, Kane enquired of the portal, and perhaps a means of passing it. Imagine his supise when the Dwarf Elder told Kane of the very Person he was in the Chain for... NONNAK! the fabled Necromancer, aparentley this dwarf wanted Kane to Kill him.. *Fools* Came Lol'ths voice *Use them for all they are worth, gain their trust - Then crush them! Destroy them alL* Kane asked for quests, and knowledge - soon the dwarf was rambling on and on about little dwarves, heroes and quests> Eyeing kane up and down the Dwarven elder mumbled something about "killing a Dark Elven Lord" I havent seen one of those since i left the Home Spirals.. But first, to visit this Nonnak, only to be interrupted on d8 by a Dark Elven Lord!, I have waited to find This Nonnak my whole life - surely a few days 'questing' for these dwarfs will show some reward worth my time.. He wants me to kill a Ratling Warlord now, from what i remember they fall as easily as other meat.. But they hide like Sneaky Meat.. Travelling back to terinyo side, kill the survivors, hiding in the tunnels - Hurthling shop owner fell to serpents bite and Improved Fireball, and the Trollish Shopkeeper of Pets died to *Many* Improved Fireballs.. 4 shopkeepers dead so far, and 45 thugs. Make that 5 shopkeepers, Some Scroll shop in the Ud, Kane just hit Level 18, Talent> Charged, feeling the Magic Burn Baby!! St:19 Le:18 Wi:17 Dx:29 To:19 Ch:09 Ap13 Ma:31 Pe:19 Chaotic Awesome (c-) dv/pv 41/26 via Crystal Shield and Crystal Plate - i picture it like a crystal exoskeloton.. Speed 104 Hp/Pp 142/177 Kane now has a Huge stack of 34 *foos* of Wondrous power, Ha. While visiting the HmVillage - deciding its destruction, Kane came across an Old Crone - hideous though she was, her words compelled him to seek out the Mutated one - could this be the strange Ratling in the Dwarf town? First, He would visit this Nonnak - surely there skills were level by now... As Kane made his way stealthily through the swamps, he could see in the distance the mountain graveyard, where Nonnak was said to live, checking the date, he found out that today was his Birthday - what a auspicious time... and seeing as its my bday, reasoned Kane - all these gifts in the ground must be for me! Entering the Tomb itself, after must digging and feasting on the Undead Flesh, Kane heard a sinister chuckling... "Nonnak! I come to learn!" But Nonnak was not a willing teacher, Kane had to Slaughter all Nonnaks creations, andd forced the OnceMan into a tighty rigged coffin, locking all the bolts and chains, Kane shouted into the viewing hole - "I will leave you to think Nonnak! I want to Learn your Ways - your Power.. I will return" A cry of anger erupted from behind him as The Coffin box shook with rage.. [edit] Heres a big post. After walking the wilderness for a day and night, Kane came across a new cavern - one smelling of burning metals and grease - starnge noises attracted him, getting closer he saw strange statues, walking on there own accord - perhaps their creator could help him, where Nonnak had failed... A few steps in Darkforge and Kane is once again corrupted with the Mana Battery - retreat to familiar ground while i look for a cure.. *Arriving back in dwarftown, the Elder somehow knew that Nonnak still lived, he insisted i return and kill him - instead, wielding Nonnaks own sword, I brought Devastation to his people...* Unfortuntatly the Mutated one Perished in the Battle, turned on by the Dwarfs.. Pulling the Sectret Lever in Thundarrs room Kane walked into the depths.. Passing one of his Converted altars Kane gave all that he had to spare to Lol'th, calling upon her guidance.. *Kane, I am Well PLeased - you have my Blessing, and power - fear not the heat, the cold - nor lightning or Acid, we shall live foreveR* Lol'ths voice filled him with joy. Lol'th was on his side.. Her Ring of Immunity on his Finger. Corruptions from Crowning> Sulphur and unholy arua **Kane Revelled in his Power, His hands gathered power from the wands he no longer needed - Beasts and men feared him, his very breath could corrode steel.. He was Chosen of Lol'th, He carried her blessing and her Ring..** Raising a troll berserker as a Corpse Fiend, he strode forth into a Cave of Horror - blessed corpses everywhere, the whole cavern full of emotions of terror.. and death. Remembering advice from an old book he had read, he plugs his ears with some bees wax he had.. he headed forth, looking through the dead.. Finding only a Troll Chief, he took his fight through the next level - laughing at the chaos as all fell dead as he fought this mighty creature - The Banshee!! d24: no shops down this deep - not so far at least, or maybe they had heard he was coming..? None the less, a big tension room of hill giants, maybe he could take their strength, for the battles ahead.. Corrupted by Chaos - antenna, an awareness of his surroundings - and finally gained control of his teleportation from a yellow corpse After being stopped by a Barrier of Flame, Kane tele-hopped back to the surface, stopping only to slay the sole sole survivor of Dwarf Town, the Hiding Mystic, searching his room he found only a Cookie, its fortune **They say that Distortion is the way to godhood** Weaving his mystical spells, the twisted dark elf teleported towards the surface.. this whole chain would fuel his army... Seeking the distant smoke of the Darkforge, Kane checked his spells, Ice Ball was his best chance against these giant Golems.. All gone, combo of Serpent and Ice Ball - rewards: Level 21, talent, longstride. The loot! oh the Power! Robe of Resistance! Soaker Spear (eh) Ring of regen! a ring of Djinn! (ill be using that for SoCRes..) Heading along the mountains He came across a small dark cave, shuddering a little he saw nothing worth his time, he continued on over a small mountain range - coming past an old ruin, swamplands. An old tomb, a platnum ring, a scary place, a water cavern, a burning tower... Such riches would set Kane up for his conquest.. No Sacrifice, no Glory... After a brief incounter with the water dragon (nuch bigger than her child..) Kane fled to easier prey - setting his eyes to the Burning Tower he Equipped Lol'ths Ring of Immunity, taking his most powerful artifacts he went into the Hellish Heat... Farsight+Frostbolt+iceball = The Fire orb, nice - matches Kanes Water Orb - neither of these battles was too spectacular.. d27, exciting undead, a tension room of greater demons, hit CharLevel23 d29, tension room of doppleKings - put health on 1. scary, teleported to safety, only to land beside the Eternal Knight.. Showing him the ring from the Tomb, The Guardian Stepped aside - sounds of merriment and gambling came from below... *Phew* Thanks to unholy aura Kane just killed the casino Shopowner and Guards.. Level25, Shadow Touch ability and Quick Talent.. D:32, Exciting white dragons ( i made no effort to double gold, been saccing it all anyway, i have no need for it) ended up with 140 000 Got crown of leadership and Seven Leauges - Some strange bunny man, a shortcut to the surface, an exciting vault of Beserkers - daggered them to death, Next level down: The Cat Lord! Killed 14 or 15 cats, Improved fireball, ice ball and quarrells of Humanoid slaying = a few levels, Talent, Very Quick. Level 29 St:29 Le:18 Wi:12 Dx:27 To:32 Ch:17 Ap:11 Ma:35 Pe:19 Chaotic Minus to the extreme. Dv/Pv 73/49 Bloated Speed: 108 The SUmmoner and a Strange story. Big roomo full of high level Monsters. Diamond Golem Moloch Ogre Emperor Gorgon (Ive already killed 3) Annihaltor Quickling Queen, unfortunatly she was next to the door, health from 334 to 25 in one round, finally called on Lol'th for her Help, she healed him with a dark light, pulling darkness around himself - knowing that the magic of this level stayed his teleportation.. Iceball killed the queen - and left a corpse.. mwuh.. ha..haaaa. Level 30 before i get to the Summoner. Smelling the ozone in the air, Kane took his loot and spells and left them in a pile just down the stairs - where he ImprovFireballed a white unicorn. woot for chaos woot for the thin and nimble corruption, the latest of Kanes additions Quickling Queen Vampire died to red dragons the next level down.. Kane ascended to charlevel32.. loot: another ring of Djinn - PoGAttrib STONE BEAST EARTH ORB! Big FireBall Fight - level35 now, New Corruptions, a bulging cranium and tough scales.. d:47, lawfull altar that i corrupt, and a roaming battle with a greater moloch, (which left a corpse!, which i cant raise..) Also corruted with Thorns.. UL3, A shop, tension giants, an altar and a Titan... ALL DOOMED!!!! Although, when i was fighting The Titan, accidentally Magic Missiled myself down to 20 hp! glad i wasnt more proficient in that spell.. a quick retreat and use of spells and weeed (spense) and Kane came back, angrier.. Finishing the Titan under the cover of Darkness, Kane turned his eyes to Pantlager, the very exp Dwarfven Shopkeeper. Kane hates dwarves. so he slowly drew his dagger and advanced... level36, new talent, strong magic, loot = a lot of potions, boosting Kanes power for the battles ahead.. Barney took me to level 38, Fireball + improved Fireball Other Wyrms took me to level39, new talent, Pious ( i know its poo's but im going for character) New Corruption> RAGE!!!!!! The Karmic Wyrm pays well for Kanes help - little knowing Kane will be back... Whooooooo, The Archmage did some stat damage.. nothing kane cant handle though... now level 41, with poison hands, Horns and Very Light Corruptions.. New talent Very Pious, new corruption Teleport, level 43 going into the: FINAL LEVEL!!!! Prepped all my gear, used my precious stash of 3 rings of Djinn for SoCRes, Used the Mana Orb to regain Mana and Mana Boost (put me on last corruption - close..) Cleared corruptions of Stiff muscles and teleportis and a couple more.. Kane Level 43 st21 le19 Wi22 Dx17 To30 Ch18 Ap1 Ma37 Pe22 Chaotic MINUS! dv/pv72/58 Speed 104 bloated hp/pp 552/550 Uselessness gift : Wyrmslayer - handy for when i go back to the surface... tALENTS: sTRONG aURA, dURABLE mAGIC An Epic Battle, Kane descends to the very bottom of the Caverns of Chaos, he can feel the chaos in the air - corrupting him with each step. Chaos mutants and servants fall to his dagger, ghost and jellys to his Fireballs of Doom, the Balors suffer the frozen Ice Ball - Praying once for healing he finished Fisty with his Knife (ran out of iceball at the worst moment) Kane looks at the empty archway, sensing the power within it Kane sent the caverns crashing down - if he cant have that power - no others could.. Thus Kane rose to the surface - killing all that had escaped his wrath before.. Emerging from the ruined Darkforge, Kherab and his rewards dead behind him, Kane gazed upon the valley - He could see a dark glade, and the river where the Great Dragon still dwelled, he had also heard of some Sinister Library, and a Great Rift.. Kane hit level 50 while clearing the bottom level, St17 Le23 Wi22 Dx26 To26 Ch18 Ap1 Ma36 Pe28 Dv/Pv 89/65 Hp/Pp 601/651 Speed Bloated 131 The Most Chaotic Minus in the Chain.. Wearing: Crown of Leadership Ankh Robes of Resistance Eternium girdle [+5, +7] cloak of protection [+0 +8] i found it that way :) Serpent's Bite (Totally Awesome!!) Tower Crystal Shiel [+16 +4] Ring of speed[+0+3] +4 speed Thick Gauntlets [+0+4] Eternium Boots [+2 +6] Light Crossbow of accurracy (+9+3) Quarrels of Humanoid Slaying Weed (Spense) The quickling tree: 4 quickling ghuls and a quickling lord Lich.. other corpses fed my speed: 163 satiated Kane explored further in the Dusty Cave by the Pyramid - his heightened awerness showing hidden stairs, after gaining entry, after a long time trying (but a lich has patience above all things) Taking a job from the Assasin Prince, who foolishly told Kane that he could get his reward direct from the Minstral - Kane turned upon the Guild - destroying all with Burning Flame, his quickling slaves helping the carnage.. Taking a familiar looking dagger from the Princes corpse, he felt it vibrate with power, it was linking with the other in his pack - the one from the karmic Wyrm.. Weilding them both gave him great power.. great powerindeed.. Going back to the Dwarven Graveyard, Kane descended into the tomb - teleporting to te Door/Coffin where he had left Nonnak, surely the Necromancer would appreciate Kanes new form.. nonnak started blasting Kane with cold as soon as the coffin door opened, Kane tried Calming him, but to no effect - so he drew his darkness around himself and teleported away, let this Necromancer stay in his tomb and rot, Kane had more power to gain - starting with all the graves up top.. Not much loot, althopugh Kane had already dug up the Greater Graves much earlier.. Heading off to infinity for the first time :) Only killed seven beggars, but am diving down to that mystical number anyway.. Filk died to an Imroved fireball, moving on.. I43, tension room of Greater molochs, trained up Magic Missile nicely, and put climbing to 100 from bonus skill increases Bwahahaha crushed by my own luggage.... BUT REBORN!!!!! Hefty damage to health and toughness.. 32>16 toughness, and around 600hp>202 went and got my SoCres from the minstral, then destroyed him as well. Kane has died and reborn many times now, while fighting the Emperor Moloch, and the Great Water Dragon.. KANE THE NECROMANCER!!!!!!!!!!! Dying often (1 hp does that) but eventually his Hp went up to 317?, maybe a bug?? not sure.. Haven't touched the game in a long time, so I'm expecting a speedy end. Well, here goes nothing... Got a human necromancer, Unicorn-born (pah), with the falling star birth effect. Blonde hair, blue eyes and 6'4" - I have christened this Aryan giant "Morty". St 13, Le 13, Wi 10, Dx 10, To 14, Ch 8, Ap 9, Ma 17. Pe 11 Chaotic of course, with frost bolt, skull dagger, and a ring of fire resistance. Let's get it on... EDIT (a few minutes later): Well, I knew it'd be short... I went to the first level of the DD intending to stay there till I gained a few levels. Unfortunately living without healing is quite difficult, and though I had little trouble dispatching foes all the wounds eventually caught up with me. In the end I died to a crude knife thrown by an orc. (I didn't actually expect that to cause so much damage, otherwise I might have considered a prayer) Got to level 6, scored 4163 points, killed 27 monsters. Seems like bookcasting for a while. Its Darknight and all. Edit: Went to "Holeinthewall" killed outlaw leader as a first kill. Gained some levels and received pick pocketing and headed to small cave for some equipment and for the location of the stairs. Killed some minor beasts until panickin dark sage blasted Gunhild to her untimely death. Lvl 4,score 3546 points, 801 xps. Wow, what a game! :D End of story. Okay, fire in the hole... I'll probably take advantage of the reporting issue, and make this into a DiTL. Starsign - Salamander. 20% cheaper fire magic, +1 to initial charisma, +3 to initial mana, +20% to power points. Well sure got a spellcaster sign... Gender - random, turned out to be male. Race - random, turned out to be ...dark elf. Class - chose necromancer. Opening questions - random. Talents - 2 at start (I'm guessing second is from high mana). I take a break here and eat some stew. This is a very important moment, for a low-starting-powerered class. I do some research on the guidebook. I got stats from dark elf: St Le Wi Dx To Ch Ap Ma Pe 09 10 12 15 09 07 12 16 13 and this adjustment from necromancer class: -1 +2 +2 0 +1 -4 -3 +3 0 Giving my expected stats: St Le Wi Dx To Ch Ap Ma Pe 08 12 14 15 10 04 09 19 13. Right. I can pick "hardy", so my toughness is at least 10+. But it might be 10 or 11, so I decide to ignore the hardy - tough skin route. I think hard on alert. This is a "restricted scum", meaning no gremlin bomb, and restricted ID access. So unlike normal, treasure hunter is better now. Still, I might very well die without help from the 3 first talents. And if I live long enough for TH to start working, I might not need it as much. I think on careful - very careful. 4 DV when fighting defensively. Which I will, and let my spells work. There is also quick and long stride, outrun the danger. I at last pick these two. Stats turned out like this: St Le Wi Dx To Ch Ap Ma Pe 09 13 15 16 13 06 10 23 15 Items: dagger 1d4 +1 ring of the fish wand of acid (2 zaps) potions: booze, water, cure poison (this is good now) and gain attributes scroll of uncursing book of frost bolt I name him "Manzazuu" - this sounds dark elvish, and also has a special meaning concerning necromancy. Get quests, buy large rations, enter DD. First kill goblin rockthrower. Manage to reach level 3, taking concentration and literacy skills. Take "healthy" talent. Very weak character, still only 1 PV. Can die at any time. Try my luck on DD:2. Find a mixed tension room. A blink dog teleports in my way - dies to frost bolt. Then a pixie archer - shrugs off my last spell. I pray, get hps, and do not regenerate PP fast enough. Manzazuu, the dark elven necromancer, was killed by a female pixie archer. He scored 1976 points and advanced to level 3. He survived for 0 years, 2 days, 17 hours, 0 minutes and 15 seconds (1597 turns). Manzazuu visited 4 places. He ended his adventuring life in a sinister dungeon on level 2. 21 monsters perished under his attacks. He had the following talents: Healthy, Long Stride, Quick. He had a final speed score of 103 (final base speed: 103). He was not particularly religious. He asked for 1 divine intervention. He was chaotically aligned. Please don't flame me, I swear, the first and only character I generated today was born in the month of the candle. I feel so cheap. I certainly won't be going anywhere near the ID at the start, just to make up for my luck so far... First kill, bandit btw UPDATE: I thought the spirit of the challenge was to play the first (non-troll) PC you rolled, which I did, but dont worry about me, even with Candle, still died. Was from sheer carelessness... I managed to overestimate how many turns Hotzenplotz would take to cross three squares after he was recalled from panicking. A really really stupid death considering how many spellcasters I have played who have killed Hotzie much earlier than this... Idiotic. Anyway, after my first bandit, went to SMC, but beat hasty retreat, went back to holeinthewall, killed random citizens until CL5, chilled out feeling at one with nature until Kranach found me, killed him and his feeble raiders, went back to holeinthewall, froze two bouncers, gave Hotzie a cold, played tig and got caught, Mr Pink successfully killing me in one turn, thus neatly bypassing the power of his enemies prayers, end of game. Urgh. On the bright side, over the previous two weeks I put a few practice Necros on my scoreboard (they did a lot better without Candle than my challenge guy, thats life eh? Or rather, death) and I have to say, I really should play them more often. They get loads of spellbooks, and have melee capabilities... I shall continue to play non healing necros for sometime I think. Rialto, the gray elven necromancer, was killed by Hotzenplotz, the crime lord. She scored 7152 points and advanced to level 6. The following were slain: 4 bandits 1 beggar 1 cloaked ratling 1 cutpurse 2 giant rats 1 goblin 2 half-orc bouncers 3 kobolds 14 large dogs 4 muggers 4 outlaws 6 raiders 1 raider lord Sad. Human necromancer Valiance, starsign Falcon. Started with Alert talent. St: 14, Le: 18, Wi: 15, Dx: 15, To: 15, Ch: 7, Ap: 13, Ma: 13, Pe: 13 Started with Frost Bolt for the spellbook, luck for the ring, and 2x invisibility, beauty, and water for the potions, and a wand of webbing. Not too bad, really. Robe was +3, +0. UPDATE 1 Ran to Holeinthewall and killed an assassin... whatever. Played around a bit in the small cave until level five, ended up finding two more spellbooks of Frost Bolt in there. Weird. And lucky. Barely managed to come out alive though. Spent a bit of time in the druid dungeon, learned Fire Bolt, Light, Knock, and a few others and found a book of Acid Ball (Yes!). Now I'm in puppy cave, level twelve, and trying to clear out a vault of lesser undead. There was a pool halfway down... Got fate smiles, poison resistance, slightly weakened, a much-needed mana boost, and cursing. However, there was a neutral altar a floor below, where I became neutral. I still haven't got the piety to remove the cursing though. St: 15, Le: 19, Wi: 15, Dx: 15, To: 15, Ch: 7, Ma: 17, Pe: 13 Short spear equipped, level four in spears. UPDATE 2: I died a stupid death. Accidently fired off an un id'd wand of magic missiles into a corner and dealt myself 87 damage while I had a 40 mas health. And I was doing good as well... WHEN WOMBATS STRIKE! Nothing interesting. Went to SC first (as usual). Came into a big room with a couple of rats and bats. Took out two rats and one bat with Frost Bolt, the second bat tore me to pieces. Else than that, Rogadishu lived a quite happy life - filled with interesting things, such as reading spellbooks in puny villages and traversing the wilderness without a single encounter. |

I don't mean to offend anyone, but... isn't playing a Candle-born character against the spirit of this challenge? The HP regeneration rate it provides equals having Healing skill at 200! And Trolls are forbidden for exactly the same reason - too fast regeneration. |

Name: Tos'gorr Birth: Raven (Next best thing after Candle) Hurthling necromancer I didn't have access to internet when I created him and didn't write down the stats. I recall he started with 17 Learning (which is decent for a non-elven spellcaster that is not a wizard) and about the same in Mana, but a strength score of four. Four! He picked up a quarterstaff and became burdened instantly. Started with book of Frost Bolt and one potion of invisibility for an emergency. Playing a hurthling proved to be a boon, even though I have yet to find a stack of rocks. I've currently in my pack two single rocks that were thrown by rockthrowers. I used up two other single rocks after insta-killing opponents with them already. With rocks, berserk spear, and frost bolt spells, I reached C-Level 8 without using up a prayer. I chose the VD stupidly, but killed Yrrigs, so I may be forgiven. Spells I found: Knock, Calm Monster, Teleportation (woot), Revelation Yet to find another damage spell. Casting knowledge for Frost Bolt after using up the book is still high, though, so I'm not worrying about my fate. I had a wererat ghul kill a cave lion. Felt good :) EDIT: Okay, now that I have been allowed to live by the "Choose Yrrigs quest and don't obtain Healing ever" rule, no scrolls or potions of education for me. They suck anyway. No more Pick locks! EDIT2: Tos'gorr, the hurthling necromancer, was killed by a large gnoll. I played through the rest of VD and through the PC until the bottom level. I'd have been set up for a pretty easy rest of the game with a nice spell repertoire including a heavily used Cure Light Wounds. I also had found a scale mail offering six PV and white gauntlets and a large shield. I fought the vault with bolt spells, not having a lot of problems, but when I thought I could pick up an item in coward mode while that brown g was near me: The large gnoll hits you. You lose a lot of blood! One round of not checking my HP... The large gnoll critically hits you! You die... With exactly zero HP left from a max of 47. The depressing fact is: I had 48 max HP before, but managed to get a To decrease at some point! Tos'gorr scored just above 20000 points and so managed to secure spot 98 in my top 100 ;) You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?" Which direction? This is my first go at one of these but here goes, started on the second as I was busy on first but set my system clock back. Drakeling born in unicorn, I started with a robe [3,1] and =oP+3 so a good start, picked long stride as starting talent as I am going to be far more careful at the start ( and I don't think I am going to last long enough for TH to have an affect). S:14 L11 W17 D11 T15 Ch11 A8 M13 P11 H23 P20 ID as starting dungean, Iron man style for a couple of levels, no need for a rare first kill for a regular ending (Large bat in the end). Went down to lvl 4 before getting a little worried by a tough berserker so I turned round and headed back up, lvl 5 and I only found one book mystic shovel and at 115pp a shot I will not be using that soon. On my way to the outlaw village I found Kranach so killed him with the trusty frost bolt. I found a chaotic altar on DD3 and a very nervous sacrifices (both low hp and a chaos altar both make me nervous individually let alone together) I was precrowned with Executor. Now here is a conundrum, normally I would immeadiately wield the slaying axe but with only one shot, no healing, low HP and as yet only my original frost bolt as a offensive spell could I afford the loss of luck and DV from my spear? The computer says no. Found a ring shop on PC4 then descended found the cute dog, eliminated the badly built skeletons and zombies in the vault and returned to the surface. Having joined the theives guild I got training in detect traps and more training in climbing and headed for the CoC. Found a wonderful book shop on lvl 4 but I had spent all my cash so headed through the big room as quick as possible then disaster struck, I got hit for 20 or so damage on the way through and then the first door I open on the next level has a lightning vortex behind and I was too burdened to out run it or get more than one frost bolt off before it all ended. Really enjoyed this, the lack of healing and the fact that I only had one shot meant everything was very nervous, I was very careful all the time until I opened the silly door with less than full health. I thought I was on the last run down to the dwarven village and all my previous characters have been a lot hardier by the time they got there, normally having done the UD run. This sounds like fun... so I stared a character. He's a High Elf Necro - N+. In the first dungeon I entered (Keethrax's Cave), I found a neutral altar to my god. I sacrificed a few monsters until he was "very pleased". Is that allowed? Can I be Neutral or do I have to be Chaotic? I need to know if I can use the altar. I can't convert it yet because I'm still neutral. What do I do? |

Nocturo was born a female High Elf Necro, under the sign of the Falcon AND born under a two-headed calf. Right from the start I could tell she was different. She started with 3 talents TALENTS: - Alert - Miser - TREASURE HUNTER!! Whoo Hoo! ST:10 LE:17 WI:16 DX:20 TO:14 CH:2 AP:12 Staring gear: Ring of Damage (+3 damage) Dagger (1D4+1) Sandals (0+0) Scroll of power Scroll of Item Detection Spell Book - Frost Bolt Potion of Dex Potion of Learning Nocturo first talked with the sherrif, then the Druid and finally the little girl. However Nocturo had no intention of retuning the dog.. well at least not while he was alive... hehe So off to "Holeinthewall", where Nocturo kills the first creature she sees... a lowly outlaw. While in town she decides to visit the local shop and visit with the Thieves guild.. learning a bit about picking pockets. You never know when that might come in handy. Leaving town Nocturo decides to visit the mighty Keethax first. Getting thirsty Norturo decides to drink both her starting potions (Dex and Learning). On the first level of Keethax dungeon Nocturo happens upon an Altar to Assyria (?), her neutral god and proceeds to worship and offer any hapless creatures that wander by. Fortune smiles upon Nocturo and many potions of water start appearing. She also found several spell books including: Darkness, Blessed Light. On level two she picked up SB: Magic Missle. Leveling easily Nocturo decided that she needed fast feet if she was going to survive so she choose "Quick" and "Very Quick"... that and finding a ring of speed (+5 speed) didn't hurt either! On level 5, Nocturo finds 2 more spell books "Magic Lock" and "Cure Light Wounds"! That helps! After a short while things became too tough and Nocturo decided to come back later to visit Keethax, so she heads to the UD. Unfortunately the UD is no place for a low level necro, so Nocturo decides to go the long way around. Nocturo decides to visit the dwarves in the CoC. Along the way she finds a "Girdle of Carrying", which she immediately blesses and a spell book of "HEAL" (That helps!) In dwarf town, after paying her respects at the local temple, heads over to talk to the king dwarf. Ugly old fart that will have to die someday... but not today. Wants Nocturo to kill a large bat.. whoa, that's REALLY tough. While killing the bat, she finds a spell book of "Fire Ball". Just what she needs! :) Back to the king and another quest. So Nocturo heads to the forest and on the way she finds a "+3 SWORD OF SHARPNESS"!!, Which she immediately RUSTPROOFS and BLESSES. Now.. if we could just find a decent shield and armor... I'm not sure why, but we never made it to the forest. Nocturo decided to go back and visit Keethax, so off she goes... and there's still that pesky pet dog! hehe Back to Keethax.. with my shiny new sword and amulet of Light (and spell books of heal). Keethax didn't put up much of a fight. Took his body back to the Druid in exchange for a portion and some knowledge... like a necro is EVER going to grow a garden. Bwwwhahahah! On to the Dog Cave... and darn... Nocturo was too late.. poor thing was dead already! Bwaahhaha! Oh.. and we finally came across a Chaotic altar. Nocturo decides to spend a few gold pieces and *boom*, she's now CHAOTIC!! Yay!! I guess I should have sacrificed the dog on the altar, but I really wanted to make the little girl cry... (until I decided to kill her at a later time).. Bwahahaha!! At this point, Nocturo is doing very well... and you know what happens when you get cocky?? Yep, you're right. Nocturo now thinks she can take on the UD and whatever it was that was kicking her butt earlier (invisible Ogre Magi). So she proceeds down (with her new cloak of invisibility). Nocturo does manage to take out the Ogre Magi and a number of other monsters, but she CANNOT find the stairs down and the monsters keep getting tougher and tougher. A Stone Golem, that kept reisting her spells finally brought her down with a critical hit! I probably would have lived longer, but I tried to play like a true necro, so I made some decisions I would not normally have made. Overall it was a lot of fun!!! :) |

i've thought i got CANDLE problems covered above. if not: LUCK is not forbidden. be it birthsign, amulet of rapid healing or good spellbook very fast. ------ Character: Bianca - female orcish necromancer well, she started with to at 20... and learning of 12 and mana at 9. backpack: skull dager, wand of light, ring of defense, potions - 3xwater, potential dexterity, pot willpower, scroll of identify and almighty tract of chaos. talent: long lived (i had serious thoughts on alert and long stride) 1kill assassin (the thing was too fast to run and true berserking helps a lot.) 1dungeon - ID --1level was quite a hell... Bianca weas bleeding all over place, but she did it to level three, geting healthy and picking two spelbboks - one appeared to be magic map and another lightning bolt... id2 gave me orc scorcher (=crude spear), studded leather armor and big shield. we stopped advance at id4 due to blink dog madness. on way out we considered horizontal river to be matter of life and death (low hp, low food, no means of diging, no idea there stairs are). so i took stairs down and than up again. in grand total 7(9?) levels of id gave us seven spellbooks: 2xknock, calm monsters, lightning bolt, magic map, summon monsters. Hmmm.... On druid dungeon we found white altar so Bianca is now lawful and going to fetch some food. oh, and my lv6 talent was long stride. gods decided on soaker, which will be sold away as bianca managed to find orcish spear of devastation. i somehow decided to show myself at black druid's home level and... and bastard was generated next to me. We did run for our lives, but were blocked my stupid jackalwere. Luckily Bianca was in good standings with frces above and couple of divine healings allowded to get away. no she is in PC3 doing herb farming. and her repertuar extended to farsight. no other attack spells so far. major farming done. to at 28, dx at work, stuff uncursed, pc vault cleared and second precrown done on neutral using gray altar at pc5. i've got... not a preserwer... but protector... more than excelent. dwarven quests except graveyard are done. and first potion of education gave me... healing. i promise not to put any skill raises in this, but this one very lucky girl (i also got random 7lb defined as soft, but still...). given a fact i have book of teleportation and am planing regular ending... i have nearly everything i need. including waterproof blanket from dwarf elder for arena win. went past dwarven graveyard, tomb of high kings (found ring of djinni summoning there), saved Khelly, done main dungeon till firewall. it is very clear it is time for ToEF. after that i am intending to rush the char - doing hell of magic map and teleportations. Wyrm was one big bloody fight. but that was done. somewhere on d25 Bianca gets surge of power granting ironfist. casino gives loads of spellbooks, some basic stuff and ring of immunity. Bianca clears way down, gets ring of master cat and... that was way to happy story, sure. Bianca detects (via wand) room of quickling queens. that a perfect slaves. some moments later bianca is low on hitpoints out of power and way back is blocked by yet another quickling queen. Bianca quaffs some good healing potion and tries to dig way out with wand. now she is facing three queens at time. Switch to wand of fireballs and keep quaffing potions with other hand. With one last queen insight (and no corpse drops) healing potions are over and Bianca dies of ... blood posionoing (apears that was doing very sifgnificant amount of damage). never head luck in my own chalenges.
