i think you would lose second part as char is very likely to end using 2hander without shield.

Mael: I did not think too much about that SW comparison. I should have known someone would know better than me. The handguns are called blasters, true. But I also seem to remember people talking about "turbo lasers" when assauling the death star in episode IV. Well, well.

We play on normal now, nightmare and hell would be tougher, yes.

But I just realized that in Diablo you are supposed to beat the game on normal, then use that same (buffed up) character to beat it again in nightmare and then hell. So you finish game on normal (leave valley) - and get option of going back in. Then do it again, with all monsters having 10x more HPs, spell resistances, 5x damage.

My idea was probably more like "tired of playing a normal game? Let us make it a nightmare for you". It would be like one level lower curse/luck level. Starting out it would feel like you were cursed, if you get lucky + fate it will feel like only lucky. And don't get cursed & doomed, that will feel like cursed, doomed and FUBAR'ed.

Monster can have some more hps and do some more damage, a little increase in speed. (Or give all monsters permanent "long stride". Eq drop reduced to. Rewards from quests, saving Khelly reduced, so less SoCR in the game. Something. Hell even worse, of course.

For Hell, all monsters generated are cats, and the Cat Lord's level is completely dark with moving stairs (like the Pyramid) and no teleportation/digging.

...or it could be like my last few characters, where every time you get a good footing/save Khelly, the game crashes.

Sierim - I had the same problem for a while, ADOM would crash, or windows would crash, and good characters got ruined. So I started backing up games, not for save scumming purposes, but in case of crashes. It's easy to do, only takes a few clicks.

...or there could be a stoneblock trap hidden in every room and background corruption doubles every 30 days

My idea would be more like something completely new, come to think of it. Like "corrupted" monsters, which are a bit stronger than their normal counterparts and corrupt as well, but are on the same danger level. (This excludes unique monsters.) Or an idea I got from another game: special effects for normal levels. Like "Poisoned air", which might poison you every turn. Or "Impending death", which will negate the two positive intrinsics and will curse+doom you while you are on the level. Or a simple teleport block. (These would be all negative.)

Dual wielding should be made more usable, for example by removing the huge penalties to energy score. It could be balanced by making it lower your DV accordingly. This would make it much more usable and it would be somewhat "logical".

Sword and shield=much dv with lessened attack, dual wielding would be ass kicking to-hit and amounts of hits with the cost of DV and wielding a one handed weapon only would be like a compromise. Two hander is still the way to go when huge amounts of damage needs to be dealt.

If you want to dualwield with good benefits why you just dont play ranger? I mean they get like +2 To Hit bonus/ hand /level when they are dualwielding. I played the game trough with dwarven ranger wielding both onehanded artifact spears and i had like +50 To Hit for both. And the game ended when I was lvl 36... so actually I could have made him better on it with 40/50 lvl skill which should increase it furthermore.

And about DV. You can still increase your DV a lot if you dualwield even like swords. There is still _ALWAYS_ that 1/20 chance that enemy attack will hit you (was it 1/20 or sumtin?). So good armor is way to go!

Since when is being hit by monsters based on the d20 system?

Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"

Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.

Well i heard sumwhere (RGRA? maybe) that there is limit on the chance that you may evade attacks. In other words you can't get like really that 999/1000 chance to evade or so. Its just in theory, dont concentrate on numbers... they are not the main point im trying to say.

I think I've read it somewhere too, that there's a certain autohit chance for monsters... Try it out, go stand next to goblins and orcs with DV 120+, they'll still hit you once in a while..
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

Could be either due to an automatic success like a 1 in a hundred roll, or it could be like in Earthdawn, where you reroll dice that have gotten the maximum result to create even larger results. Theoretically, it's then possible to roll 121 with a d4...

I have the feeling some classes were inspired by Earthdawn. The beastfighter resembles a beastmaster in my eyes...

There is some equivalent of the D&D critical 20, but it's thankfully less often than 1 in 20 if you've got high DV.
Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse."
