Sounds good, count me in. My preferences: random R/C combo - whatever happens happens. Rivers generated if we can't swim: < > level regen allowed, net minimum level decrease by 1 must still apply. Leaving PC without food, whilst starving!, with 1 HP, no PP, no spells, doomed and cursed standing in a dark room at end of your go rule: 1/ If all other players left in die, game comes back to you, you survive another 2000 turns: well played, we have a winner. 2/ If all other players left in die, game comes back to you, you FAIL to survive another 2000 turns: you are weakest link, you die, all other players which were still in game continue from the point before your first 2000 turns. Surely that makes sense? If player X makes such a mess no one, not even player X, can get out of the position, player X loses, game moves on. Sounds like its gonna be fun, oh, and when does Rhea II begin? |

Maul: > you may reroll a level if you didn't stay > in the level for more than 10 turns > That would allow stairhopping. I don't think we should go that route. Might not be good but I had to think of something like that, I suppose. As you wish, though. Maul: > I'm not going to go to the extremes just to > hinder the other players Well, I don't know that we have already decided about when (or if) to allow extreme hindering tactics. It's just a good idea to throw out some possible scenarios, to get feedback on them, before finalizing the rules. Maul: > if the competition is full of bastards I > wouldn't enter another league either way > Well, if the final rules allow for extreme tactics, in the 5th round rotation, then one could hardly be called 'bastard' for employing them. Matter of perspective. Anyways, if someone creates nigh unsolvable situations, nobody is going to play with him, and is that the point? ------------------------------ Maul: > getting out if the next guy died in the first > 500, or even 50 or 10 turns is a stupid idea > I think that depends on what your definition of the word 'stupid' is : ) I don't think it fits my definition of 'stupid' at all. Well, it fits my definion perfectly. Illogical, the worst way of solving whatever it was meant to solve. ------------------------------ Maul: > and I don't know what a turn reduction bug is. > It's a bug in the game, that allows you to reduce the number of elapsed game turns. Very informative. How is it done? 1l= Y0(_) [4l\l R34[) 7l-l15, Y0(_) l\/l(_)57 83 PR377Y G00[). |

> Well, it fits my definion perfectly. Illogical, > the worst way of solving whatever it was meant > to solve To my eyes, it's just a bit to strict... with the potential to be unfair. I wouldn't call it nearly 'stupid', as that is the only idea I have heard so far, that would keep me from using the kind of competitive tactics I have mentioned. If you are saying no one would WANT to be in the same group as me... thanks. I'll take that as a compliment ; ) About the turn bug. It can potentially be used to easily give players extra turns within games. I didn't discover the bug myself, so I would feel wierd about posting the details. I wouldn't mind a bit if they were posted though. I don't think that anyone would abuse it. I mean, if we trust each other to not save scum, we can trust them not to give themselves extra turns. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |

"To my eyes, it's just a bit to strict... with the potential to be unfair. I wouldn't call it nearly 'stupid', as that is the only idea I have heard so far, that would keep me from using the kind of competitive tactics I have mentioned." The Iron Man challenge is hard. Damn hard. I haven't won a game yet, though once I was quite close... but I've tried the Ironman challenge a few times, and regardless of my inferior experience (compared to some) I'd say I know why it is hard. Here we are allowed to linger a bit, but we will still probably die not too long into the game... so why add 2-3 extra things with which the beginners can die in the first turn? If we are to try and eliminate this kind of crippling we should just trust our fellow players to do it - after all, nobody would know if I tried 6 times before advancing a level. "I didn't discover the bug myself, so I would feel wierd about posting the details." Strange reason I wouldn't think of, but suit yourself. I suppose someone will eventually post it. "If you are saying no one would WANT to be in the same group as me... thanks. I'll take that as a compliment ; )" ...okay. 1l= Y0(_) [4l\l R34[) 7l-l15, Y0(_) l\/l(_)57 83 PR377Y G00[). |

If we want to have a format like 'no screwing the other players', I would be fine with that. In fact, I think I even suggested that early on in this thread. I also have no problem with it being based on the honor system. It's just that, whatever the rules are, I will do my best to win, within those rules. > Strange reason I wouldn't think of, but suit > yourself. I suppose someone will eventually > post it. I'm pretty sure it has been posted somewhere already. You could try a search through RGRA, using google groups. It was probably first posted there. ALSO: To the whole group. Might I suggest we move ALL of this to the adom.de forums. I am pulling my hair out with both hands here. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |

Count me in. a) Are you interested in playing this? Yes. b) Do you want to play another Rhea-like game too? If so, before, after or alongside this one? Not too much. But if new game like that starts, i'll try it. c) Should we use a drakish priest, random selection, or some other suggestion? Drakish priest is ok, though large part of their power comes from early use of herbs. And i like food preservation and ability to eat any cool corpses you find while starvating(to guarantee incease in stats) soo much :) d) What's the maximum number of people to have in a league? more - better 2-3 circles and some deaths will make game much faster e) Any suggestions for rule changes or additions? vogonpoet proposal just great. |

Signed up so far: Darren Grey gut Timpen Silfir Subconcious FantomFang Maul Ars riktikticheck vogonpoet Kingsdragon ElectricalFire DeSt Soirana Molach Evil Knievel Sulangatori Reich Mozzy Tunes Covenant Deepshock That's 21 names. Deadline for signing up will be this Friday - on Saturday morning I'll create groups randomly and start up threads for the play-offs. The top few from each league will then go into the final (exact numbers depends on total sign-up, but likely 3 leagues and the top 2 from each into the final). Based on discussion here the rules will change as follows: -priest of random race (no trolls) -stair-hop only allowed to bypass rivers -no competitive tactics in first 2 rounds -from round 3 onwards there are no holds barred. Do whatever competitive tactics you like within the general challenge rules. However, if you create an unsolvable situation that every subsequent player dies of, including yourself, then you're the one that's out and everyone else carries on from before your turn. That way you won't even have a high score placement, so be careful! As always, rules depend solely on player honesty. If you cheat noone but you will know, but it'll stay there at the back of your mind, niggling away at everything you do, and no other success in life will ever feel just or sweet because you know, deep down, that you are a cheat and a fraud and a liar and always will be - it'll be a secret you carry to the grave, to the moment right before you plant a bullet through your brains because you can't stand the eternal guilt any more, and the only way to escape is to kill the person you detest most: yourself, for all your shameful, dirty ways that have stained and tainted every piece of joy you could ever have had in life, your worthless life, now doomed to end, and the knowledge that your hateful existance is finally being extinguished is the only piece of happiness you've felt in years, all those horrible years since you cheated at that challenge game. I'd like to get in on this too, please. Sounds like fun. One question though; will the ID/2000 turn things more or less prevent scummy behaviour? My only gripe with the 'no holds barred but consequences' approach suggested by Vogonpoet is that it would be a shame for newer players to lose out not because they're not good players, but because they don't know a certain exploit (piety overflow springs to mind, or 'Starvation mode' - I'm really hoping people won't/can't abuse such bugs), or they don't feel right about gremlin-bombing, etc. Knowledge is chimera, for beyond it ever lies other knowledge, and the incompleteness of what is known renders the knowing false. |
||
Darren Grey Registered user Last page view: 4450 days, 5 hours, 12 minutes and 57 seconds ago. |
Piety overflow will not be possible, and I dearly hope no one would even think about it anyway. Starvation tactics for stat increases are possible, but unlikely to help a char a great deal (plus risky to use in hostile environments). Gremlin bombing would be quite impossible in the alloted time. So yeah, scummy tactics like those just aren't really a big issue. 21 names so far - looks like this could turn into quite a nice tourny. What if one runs out of turns before reaching the stairway? a dark elven wizard and some werewolf lords can block your way for quite a long time. The player obviously is out, but will he send on the old save, or the one were he got stuck? |

The "Rhea-like" game is explained in the "Roman Republic Game" thread. Is it still on the first page? I think it is. You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?" Which direction? (123456789) 4 Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated. You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd! Evil Knievel: 2000 turns is a very long time. In the Roman Republic game I toppled the Mana Temple and Barney in that time, in spite of huge problems and mistakes. Of course, if you're worried about not making it on time then you should make finding the stairs a big priority. Anyway, more importantly: THIS GAME IS NOW MOVING TO THE ADOM.DE FORUMS! Sorry guys, I'd like to keep it here, but the recent forum crashes have become far too frequent. The adom.de forums are extremely stable, and allow the attaching of save files to posts. Could everyone please sign up over there and repost their interest in the challenge. You can find the new sign-up thread here. I'm also making a new thread here to highlight this to everyone. Generally I am very bad at adjusting to new things if the old ones work. Of course, this forum is not always working, yet, I cannot leave it. You will have to count me out. I will still watch the progress, though, because I think it seems interesting. I don't know if it's my liking to this lay-out or because the author is Norwegian, I simply cannot leave it. |

That's silly, you don't have to leave these forums. I certainly haven't. When they are stable, I also prefer them, but the other forum should be better for the game. It just takes a couple of minutes to sign up, and I think there are a few Norwegians over there too : ) Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |
