Andor Drakon: I gave you thousands of troops, powerful equipment, immense chaotic power. I corrupted the orbs of balance and over thousands of years built up an unstoppable army to destroy the world. And you lost how?! Fistinarius: Well, he just... he just kept on spitting at us, see. We tried grabbing him but he just kept running away and spitting at us more. It was really icky... DarkForge was more gruelling at low levels - took ages to plough through all the steel golems. Kherab was a bit of trouble too, though I only killed him for xp. But ASB was the toughest individual by far, even though he was regenning 1 in 4 turns. There was nothing in the game I'd describe as a close call. Archmage brought me low with death rays at one point, but I was still faster and had loads of PoUH - only had to use 1 and carry on luring him out. Bugs would have been trouble without SLBs, but I never do that place without them anyway. Nothing else could hurt me, especially with spit 'n' back tactics. Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

Story mode, for those who are interested: In the southern swamps of Astura a tribe of drakelings lived in peace, farming the local land for all they needed. But the coming of Chaos disturbed even this far off place, and one day a black shadow loomed over the village. A rain of acid poured down, destroying houses, laying waste to the land and melting people instantly. Huge black leathery wings flapped in the sky and the sun was eclipsed by a monstrous black dragon. The people panicked at the dragon's onslaught, running this way and that, trying to save themselves and their loved ones. But one teenage boy stood mesmerised in the middle of the village. He looked up on the great black dragon with awe, whilst around him his whole life was reduced to mush. The dragon departed after eating the local flock of giant lizards, leaving the tribe utterly decimated. Most villagers moved on to join other tribes, but the now orphaned boy stayed on his own, living in the wild, a strange obsession growing in his brain. He trained up his natural spit attack in the wild, growing stronger by fighting swamp creatures. He used inks to tattoo large black wings on his black, dreaming of one day transforming into a black wyrm himself. He forgot his past, and took upon himself the new name of "Black Dragon". Sometimes hunters would come to the land, and he would capture them for his own amusement, and to show off his glory. "Do you see?!" he would ask them, proclaiming his greatness, telling them how in future he would be transformed. "Do you see?!?!" he would demand, as he revealed the magnificent black wings tattooed on his back. "DO YOU SEE?!" he would cry, as he showed them the power of his glorious acid breath. Then he'd spit on them and eat their faces. From one such hunter he heard rumour of a land infested with dragons in deep dungeons. He decided then, as he chewed on the hunter's dissolved flesh, that it was his destiny to seek out this place and attain his true glory. He set off north for the Drakalor Chain. There he fought many creatures, and all dissolved before him. He relied on the corpses of his enemies for sustenance at first, but later found many magical herbs that would fuel his powerful breath. He sacrificed many of these to Issrecht in hope of divine favour, and was rewarded well with an unbreakable pick-axe, a staff of power (which he cared little for) and an amulet that preserved his flesh and kept it whole. He then became a crowned champion of the holy Issrecht, being rewarded with His blessing, an immunity to shock attacks, and the Shirt of the Saints. After melting away a disgusting mummy and a pathetic necromancer he built a bridge over a lake of chaos pirahnas and retrieved a powerful ring, melting away the skeletal guardian. He found a ring of djinni summoning, and used it for a gift for the dying sage in the lower levels - he was rewarded well. He cleared a water-filled temple, and spat its serpent guardian to critical injury, at which point it panicked and ran into an alarm trap, leading it to be finished off by a water elemental - Black Dragon was not happy at his prey being stolen, and melted everything nearby into nothingness. He cleared a Rift of its creatures, and accepted a quest from an odd librarian. He also found therein a greater moloch he could not harm, but could outrun, and two ancient black dragons that could not harm him and that he could not hurt. They agreed to call a truce (I guess). Inside the library was also a doppelganger king with impenetrable defences, but he could not see the invisible drakeling anyway. Black Dragon looked on the doppelganger with pity and scorn - here was a creature pretending to be him, the true Black Dragon. How stupid to try to be something you are not! And especially stupid to copy the greatest black dragon of all! He left the Rift and found a dark dungeon filled with steel monstrosities. Their thick armour resisted his wrathful breath, but with great persistence he eventually melted through them all. He found in that level an item beyond all worth in his eyes - a black dragon scale mail. As he equipped the dark scaly armour on his body he could feel the acidic power brimming within him. It was his destiny to wear this, to make it into part of his very flesh. He melted the smith in Dwarftown and took over his forge (for the greater good of course) and used the mighty Hammerhead to attain large amounts of ore. He then smithed up his new skin to even greater power, and improved many other items of equipment in order to protect his fated flesh. With indomitable defence he now sought out the great burning tower. He was resistant to its burning power, and with Preserver and a ring of regeneration even his boiling blood could not hurt him. A ring of invisibility allowed him to melt through all the fiery denizens without them even seeing the black dragon that had invaded their stronghold. At the top he found a mighty fire dragon, but the Ancient Chaos Wyrm was instantly stunned by the drakeling's magical prowess and was quickly melted into nothingness. "Lo," said the drakeling, "Not even the greatest of red wyrms can withstand the power of the Black Dragon." He then dove through the depths of chaos, receiving a reward from the lord of cats (presumably in awe of the Black Dragon's might). A summoner in a temple of lightning fell to 15 spits. He met an ancient karmic wyrm that respected his strength and requested his aid, and Black Dragon agreed. He ploughed through the blue dragon caves, and these inferior dragons were no match for his power. He melted them all away, and found many useful items. He came across a great wyrm of ice, and even though its chilling breath slowed down his blood he still melted through the white scales and brought the wyrm down. "Lo!" said the drakeling, "Not even the greatest of white wyrms can withstand the power of the Black Dragon!" He found a balor in the caves and dispatched it too (though an ancient blue wyrm annoyingly got the last blow in by breathing through it) and also melted through the molochs the balor summoned. At the bottom he breathed his way through the ancient blue dragons and wyrms until he came across a huge blue and purple dragon that sparkled with immense power. But that power was not enough to withstand the drakeling's almighty spit. He stunned the wyrm with a magical ray and melted it away with ease. "LO!" cried the drakeling, "Not even the greatest of blue wyrms can withstand the awesome power of the Black Dragon!!!!!" His power had now grown immensely (level 44). He claimed his reward from the ancient karmic wyrm, and out of gratitude and respect did not spit on it (he had a feeling that might not work anyway...) He found a room of 22 greater molochs and decided to leave them in peace. He found a giant vault and cleared it, and discovered many awesome weapons in his travels, but discarded them. None could match the mighty acid spit. He cleared a quickling tree and ate its denizens to speed up his powers, and easily cleared a temple of bugs that could not withstand his unstoppable breath. Diving back down he faced off a powerful mage in a large temple. The Archmage's magic was strong, but Black Dragon's breath was stronger. He outranged the Archmage, spitting on him from afar, and the guardian fell. Black Dragon felt he had now risen to the height of his power (L50). He took on a mighty beast of stone that resisted many of his attacks and regenerated all damage done to it. But by increasing his speed and casting a spell of sloth on the beast he was able to whittle it down to nothingness. He crossed a level of ice for the final challenge, and recovered his speed with a wand of fire. He cleared through the first rooms and side rooms with great ease before taking on the central chamber. When the balors were disturbed they surrounded him, lashing him with their scourges. Angered at their attacks he teleported away, and took them down one by one. With his speed increased by a wish they were no match, and he gradually took down the whole level with his powerful breath attack. Even the great Fistinarius could not face the onslaught of his acidic spit. The gate was closed and he left the level in peace. The sun was rising in the east as he ascended to the surface, and as the rays hit his face he could feel the true peak of his power now emerging. The scale mail melded into his skin, which hardened into dark black scales that spread over his body. His face lengthened into a maw, with his teeth growing long and sharp, and his hands and feet turned into claws. His whole body grew into enormous proportions and the black wings tattooed on his back took life and burst from his skin. He stretched out his huge leathery wings and flapped them, rising into the sky. He let out a giant roar of satisfaction and breathed a rain of acid into the sky. He was now truly the greatest of all black wyrms. Lured them upstairs one by one and dealt with them individually. // Took a lot of spits to get through their defences. 30 stone grues 9 water demons 12 water elementals 19 water grues 123 writhing masses of primal chaos // These fall very easy to acid spit - was fun to breath through all of // these on D50. Background: > In your youth you worked a lot to become rich and > famous later. > Your young adulthood was characterized by hard and > long work. You had decided to study under a renowned > master. > You decided to become a Farmer. A famous FARMER?! I can see why you created your own background. That one is nuts : ) > Surprisingly high for a shield. It *is* surprising, how much damage can be dealt with non-missiles. I once had a low level archer try to anger a blink dog, by throwing a scroll at him. It killed it in one hit, and I 'Q' in frustration. > the black tome of Alsophocus > // Uselessness gift - true to its name. If thrown on D:49, it should yield the message: "Mortal, ye hast really found a use for this petty artifact of uselessness..." > Ran out of useful talents to pick and ended up > throwing in some missile ones for no reason. Don't care for PV? > 2 dwarven children > // Needed the alignment drop for precrowns... Suuuure you did : ) I'm surprised the Snake was vulnerable to an alarm trap. Maybe that can be exploited, or do you think it only happens if it panics. So what challenge is next? I can endorse blinging as one of the more fun ones. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |

gut: > A famous FARMER?! A renowned farmer - nothing odd about that. There are many rich farmers well-known and respected in their own circles. But I needed a slightly more interesting background to explain my character's odd actions. The one given is somewhat influenced by the book/movie "Red Dragon". > I once had a low level archer try to > anger a blink dog, by throwing a scroll at him. That's just hilarious :D In one game I kicked a goblin to get its attention and it died - I checked my kick damage, it was 1d4-7. > Don't care for PV? Requires Hardy and Very Hardy to get into the PV tree. Wih 3 talents left I would have only gotten 1 PV out of the deal. Also there was a thought at the back of my mind that maybe, just maybe getting the Quick Shot talent could reduce my spit energy cost - didn't of course, but I had to try. > So what challenge is next? I can endorse blinging > as one of the more fun ones. Ultra bling perhaps? Emperor moloch would certainly be quite difficult, though Andy would be just a matter of patience and SoCRs. I guess dark elf would be the best choice. Not had a UCG or UNE, so one of those would be nice (also lacking a chaotic or lawful gate-closer - should really have made this guy chaotic). Still trying for max artifacts of course, but that requires even more patience than the drakeling spit challenge, and my heart's not been properly in it since that L50 troll crashed at Khelly. Also want to properly do an unarmed monk, a mindcrafter, and go for platinum some time. And an archmage, just to generate a stupidly high score. Brimstone and Iron Man will still get attempts from time to time, when I want a quick and easy death. Right now though I have major exams, so no more big games till June. gut: >> A famous FARMER?! > A renowned farmer - nothing odd about that. Yeah, renowned I get, and rich is definitely a possibility. However, *famous* is just plain out of the picture. Let me count the number of famous farmers I know. Hmm, there's old Mac Donald, and 'what's his name, from the Quaker Oat Meal box', and that's just about it. Considering that one is fiction, and the other has to endure the eternal torment of being refered to as 'what's his name, from the Quaker Oat Meal box', I just don't think that qualifies as the 'good' kind of famous : ) >> Don't care for PV? > Requires Hardy and Very Hardy Nope, just 'hardy'. Handy for races that either start with, or can quickly get the Wi 15 and To 15 requirements. You can get 'immune to pain' with just four talents. In a way, it might be worth giving up 'treasure hunter' to get it early. You just need 'hardy', 'tough skin', 'iron skin', and the stats. >> So what challenge is next? I can endorse blinging >> as one of the more fun ones. > Ultra bling perhaps? Corruption would be a huge deal in that challenge. I had to use about 10 SoCR, just to close the gate. And I win the prize for movie-recollection: "Sometimes hunters would come to the land, and he would capture them for his own amusement, and to show off his glory. Then he'd spit on them and eat their faces." -Red Dragon. Ralph Fiennes eats the face of Philip Seymour Hoffman. By the way, you should have called the thread "Spit on my face" (and tell me ...) Well done, Molach :) And yeah, "spit on my face" (and tell me that you love me) would have been a more melodic title. Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

Nice reading! And I was thinking that this spitting around was a game start bonus, merely helping drakeling to survive... |
