Moin, I have a Question and hope u can help me agein ;-P

If I aply smithing on an item and get the message, that even if i dispite my best efforts i cant manage to improfe it, does this mean that the item has already reached his potential maximum????

ok, after some savescumming-tests i found out, that this message dont say u cant increase the weapons any more, my eternium spear is already [+12, 2d8+10], and i know it can get at least some DV bonis

No, it only means improving will be very unlikely. You can improve it still, but it may require several attempts. Also, at some point, the chance for improvement gets so small it's no worth trying anymore.

also, when smithing let's say a metal cap [+1 +0]. it may come out to look like [+8 +5]. now, if you get the message about your best efforts it may mean that the game tried to put the bonus on the 8 and not the 5 so you failed it. if you try again the 5 may go up, it may not. i'd say it's 50/50 on which stat raises. this is the same with SoP/D and SoIMA/D. you'll have to learn how far different equip pieces can go before you nkow if it's maxed or not.

Which makes Weaponsmiths potentialy the most powerful tank-warriors in the game. All they need is eternium armor and the ignots and ore to beef it up.

Can anyone beat the armor of a Weaponsmith?

You can increase the damage, to-hit and dv bonus of a weapon. After using some 150 ignots(the last 70 probably didn't do anything) on a short sword (+0, 1d6) I got it to (+11, 1d6+9) [+4, +0].
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

A weaponsmith almost doesn't need artifacts if he can get some ego-type large eternium hammers. And lots of eternium ignots.

I beat the game with a weaponsmith, and I didn't even find it worth it to try to smith eternium really high. It's just too hard to improve, and the ore is too rare. I got an elven chain mail to [+8,+15] relatively easily, and I got an eternium plate to [+6,+17], which isn't any better, so I used the elven chain. And the rest of the smithed stuff I was wearing at the end was IRON. [+7,+7] crown of regen, and [+14,+9] gauntlets of strength (I used a heck of a lotta ingots on those gauntlets).

But even though rediculous eternium is only for the patient, the smithing I did really helped my armor. So even without eternium weaponsmiths can be really good.

I smithed a tower eternium shield up to [+20, +7 or 8]. I wished for tower eternium shields, got four and melted down three to ingots, yes that may have been a bit stupid

Cheating :) no just made a few savescumming-tests

a how do a do the 14000 ignots?? scrpit paste to dos widnow :)

you need to get 14000 ignots ( moloch armors) ~100 ignots for one I dont remember exacly,
bless the armors first so you get only blessed ignots) and then use notpad to make script by typing the thing you do

a+saaa

choose skill menu, select smiting, select what to work on and ignot :)
Copy it 1000 times and PASTE !!! ;)
(CRASHES occur rareli)

some char loses are common

dont forget to eat somthing in the mean time;)
Its a very fast way to teleport-move through CoC

aa forgot yeahh a did more scumming:( to get the moloch armors, you need to wish for molochs

you cannot smith past +13 XdY +13 [+4,0]
thats the MAX of my Smithers POWERS :)

Dwarf WeaponSmith 50lvl

and a molochArmor gives 135 ignots

you can smith some real good stuff without scumming/Cheating

15 moloch armors/2~4wishes = 2000 ignots = eternitum medium shield [+25,+24]
is it worth it?

even in the earlier versions? I think in gamma 12 one could wish for moloch armour. that was a fine version, the underwater cave+gremlins -> unlimited eq... *sigh*
although I couldn't finish it because of a bug in the ice room. when I tried to throw something, the game crashed. A more sensitive person might be pissed off :D

edit. Ah. found from adom.de version changes thingie:
0.9.9.13 "You no longer can wish for Moloch armor."
and
"No more paper items will be generated in the water dragon cave."
and in -12
"Gremlins will no longer provide the layer with an unlimited supply of items while in the underwater cave."
*sigh*

do you think it's worth to learn Smithing through Glod? it is an useful skill, but it's extremely troublesome to actually benefit from it when you have it...
