what is the rarest monster Thrundarr has ordered you to kill.
I think my hardest one was an orc butcher. This could have been really hard, but I remembered seeing one in the Big Room so it wasn't that hard.

Yeah in 1.1.1 he usually gives me something I can find easily enough in the big room if I am patient enough to scum it for up to half an hour. The worst so far I think has been a ratling duelist, that one took a while....

Got a cat once... I was only level six, so I just suicided.

The *hardest to find*? A blink dog. Not that they're exceedingly rare; but they certainly were in this game.

The semirare things are the hardest. One time it took me forever and ever to find a large orc.

I usually get jellys. Is it the same for you? That you get one kinda monster more often than everything else?

First time I ever got the quest I got a berserker lord. That's the hardest one I've ever had, last time I got a kobold :)

I have a lev 19 HE fighter and he asked me to kill a "Hydra", not a swanp hydra, I have killed many swamp hydras in the wilderness, but I am having trouble finding an ordinary hydra.

Do any of you have some advince where I can find an ordinary hydra?

hmmmm . . .
don't count on completing that quest any time soon. Hydras are pretty rare. Checking the HOF I see most level 50 characters killed only about 5-10 of them. If you haven't checked the pyramid yet, do so, otherwise big room.

little tip: the danger level monster you get told to kill depends on your character's level. get the quest as soon as possible to avoid being given a rare one.

Thanks for the advice...I have already cleared the Pyramid and I have stopped the monster generation on the big room (It took me along time to accomplish that...first there was the dark elven spider factories...some goblin opening the door to my room full of ocre jellies lost a few weapons trying to control that)...and some out-of-depth dopplegandger lords, etc. I dont really want to open that can of worms again!

So far I havee cleared Darkforge, Druid, Tomb of High Kings, all but the disconnected room of the ToEF, UD, etc. Is there some small chance that the Hydra could be generated ourtside of the HMV?

Do any of you think that any of the above locations could spawn a Hydra?

otherwise I may have to scum the ID and CoC for a wish, We'll see

I've been pretty lucky with Thrundarr's first quest. The hardest monster I had to find was a Black Hurthling. I bet the next time I play, I'll be assigned Lich Lord.

That really would suck, seeing as there's no such thing :P
if you meant master lich, those are easy to find. Just dig the graves in the dwarven/coc graveyard.

I once got assigned to kill a goblin. I had to search just about everything, from the arena to the minotaur maze (why did i go there, anyway?), to the HMV, every little piece of dungeon above the animated forest to find one. And the worst part is that i had over 300 goblin slavemasters and rocktrowers on the kill list, while only 23 goddamn regular goblins. Imagine that, 23 goblins in fifty (50)days!

There´s something terribly wrong with the RNG...

Yes ... pure blood goblin is rather rare ;)
It had been a first kill of my last char (who was going for an ultra end) and there were only 24 goblins in his kill list ... most frequently appeared in Big Room (three per thousands of monster generated)

He told me to kill a troll cheif once, that took days. How about "I want ye to slay an ancient dwarf to prove your valor" that would take seconds.

That's what I meant. However, if that happens, wouldn't the AF/DH quest become another monster kill quest if I descended to the CoC graveyard?

I don't think Thrundarr gives you the location of the Dwarf graveyard until you finish all the quests that come before it, so that would make visiting the Dwarf graveyard impossible. Besides, my 26/Fighter dug up all the graves at the Dwarf graveyard and didn't find anything tougher than a Ghost Lord.

You can get the location of the dwarven graveyard at any time by asking 'portal', even if you've done none of the other quests.
Digging up the 'great treasure is buried here' graves will ALWAYS produce some kind of lich - mostly master liches, occasionally lich kings, very rarely emperors.

if you are a true pureist, not a good tip,
but reality sux, in an older ver. i was assigned a ki-rin, impossible, not like i would have won anyhow....spoiler tip......save your game back it
and get something reasonable, the 1.1 is good at giving you stuff you can find, for the most part
just try to suck when you take the first quest
otherwise you get stuck w/ a B/dragon or some such....

Well, black dragons can be found at the swamp. My cur. Char. got a Skeletal knight. after i didn't find one in the dwarfen graveyard i thought, what the heck, i go to the COC Graveyard. Killed one, went back up, and second random quest (since i already found an passed the AF) was a large kobold. Thanks RNG! :)

btw: second random seems to be a whole lot easier than first. A few days ago i got a vapor rat. Didnt find one, went throug AF, on my way back up finally encountered a vapor rat. (Hit the screen, scream "couldnt you have shown up just a few minutes earlier???" be thouroughly frustrated. Oh yeah: Spent a blessed ? of identify a few turns earlier to answer a few questions.)
Second random Monster quest was a black hurthling.

Thrundarr has been very kind to me lately. Nothing worse than ettin or karmic lizard for a long time.

The rust monster touches your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster. Nothing happens. You laugh at the monster's pitiful attempt.

Usually Thundarr asks me to kill crystal or stone statue... And I can't find those anywhere, dammit! I have also got easy ones sometimes, like barbarian leader, ratling warrior and jackal demon, but still, he loves to make me prove my valor by slaying a crystal/stone statue...

Where do you find Will o' wisps, anyway?

I always have the feeling the difficulty-level of this quest doesn't depend on your level or anything, but more on the equipment you're wearing. I take all my equipment off and drop it on the ground to talk to him, and i don't get too hard to find monsters. The guy also once asked me to slay a rat :P

Got a White Baby Dragon, any idea where to find one? I'm running around in ID 20+, do they appear in ID 1-9? Should I go to DH?
Sad thing is, while looking for DH in COC 14, I went down the only visible stairs and ended up in the forest, I wonder whats the next monster?

This current game got me a spectre...hard to believe there are none of them in the dwarven graveyard, but there ya have it. Finally found one in the ID somewhere. My hardest to find was a Berzerker King.

Blah.
I once got mimic right after clearing Waldenbrook's store. :) Suffice to say that now i get quest first, and then check store.
