I use fullscreen whenever I play Adom because otherwise it's very difficult to make sure that my x-windows terminal is always the same size for playing saved characters.

I've read here that this affects the size of the dungeons themselves. Am I making things harder for myself by doing this?

Does changing the window size affect the actual resolution of the terminal? Not sure how that works under X-windows. I know that under MS Windows the size of the "terminal" window doesn't affect it's resolution (number of lines and colums), just the size of the text. You have to isse spesific commands (or mess with the "advanced" properties of a shortcut) to alter the actual line/colum resolution of the "terminal" in the MS world. Not sure how that works in Linux though.

If you do increase the actual nunmber of lines (and colums) then yes dungeons will be larger (except the pre generated ones, like the towns and such), and that makes some aspects of the game harder (but you also find more items I think).

AFAIK:
You wont find more items/monsters on a bigger dungeon.

Consequence:
You wont be surrounded as often.
You will need more food.

The choice is yours :)

The best thing about a bigger resolution comes in once you hit the CoC graveyard, which, unlike the Nonnak one, isn't pre-made.
Lots and lots of graves to dig, which means heaps of stuff and possibly a few artefacts :)

Yeah, and heaps of nasties jumping out of graves.

Your choice. :)

Nasties = xps :P And more items. And undead corpses. And trouble if you're not ready for emperor liches, but that's just a minor problem ;)

Not to mention the oh-so-teeny extremely rapid descent to chaotic alignment. Be careful. :)

How do you change the size of the screen anyways. (this is for the windows version, correct? Cause I use DOS+DOSbox just cause I love fullscreen). Sorry about being an unregistered user asking such a n00b question, I know some forums are the "stfu n00b, go log in at least".

Are you sure about this? I'm pretty sure that increasing screen size simply formats the characters to match your screen size

Holy cow, that was an old thread you just revived. I doubt Skeric is still around...

I usually run the DOS version from within Windows (Works fine, I don't know why people need an emulator) and I can modify the number of rows of the screen in the *.pif file.

You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"

Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

Yeah, this is a case of necromancy, but I really wanted to know. I think I'll up the number of rows in order to make dungeons a tad more square. Should make things slightly less ugly in fullscreen mode.
