Im just going around, just started playing... Was an addict to Majormud if anyone knows what that is. Anyways, I can get down to the cave SE of the outlaw town down to about lvl 18-20 then it starts to get hard. My DV/PV is 26/12 and I don't find CRAP for anything item wise. Best things ive found are a Heavy Cudgel (-1) (2d5+8) with my attack bonus +22 to hit and a Large Mithril Shield (+7/+2).I have a LVL 16 orc assassin but found him to get boring right now so I changed to a WS. Smart? I was hoping to forge later on if i ever find a forge. And where are these shops in the dungeons? i can't even walk west on the first map past the river before it gets too hard. Can someone give me some advice on what to do? And please, no abbreviations. I dunno what DPrTk means or anything like that. Thanks in advance.

That dungeon you speak of is known as the infinite dungeon. Its quite fun to mess around in, level up, experiment, find some extra loot.

It never generates shops, or surges of power (Guarded Artifact), Pools, Herbs (I think), and probably some more lovely features of the "Normal" dungeons.

Id recommend talking to a few npc's around town and doing their quests first. You can open up 2 "Easy" dungeons(3 actually, but 2 of them are mutually exclusive) by receiving quests in the first town.

In any case you can find out if an NPC is unique by 'l'ooking at it (hotkey 'l', that is). Unique ones have names.

Kick it. Litterally. But be careful, there is some danger to associated with opening those doors by force...

With one exception. :)

Ok, well im up to lvl 16 now... so I guess the strategy would be try to find a girdle of carrying.. and horde all metal items to melt into ingots and somehow find a forge?

There are guaranteed forges. Just keep your eyes open.

Btw, the type of metal things are made of matters more then you think when it comes to melting and smithing.

Um, no. That makes two unnamed uniques in the early game, my bad. But close :)

If you're desperate, go to the SMC( the small cave north-west of the first town) and descend to the next level. You've just entered the Unidentified Dungeon, and there are 7 levels. A forge is almost guaranteed but it's going to be tough to go through the SMC without spells or invisibility at your level...

In my experience, the chance to go thru SMC with lvl 1 without killing is 20%

Wow, I generally have at least 3/4ths of my characters survive the SmC at level 1. Maybe my penchant for playing spellcasters helps, though I've had the same results for my late fascination with Fighters, Thieves, and Assassins...

3/4 is quite the right number for me as well... As long as "surviving at level 1" doesn't mean still being at 1 upon going down. (I usually stay in there until im level 5)

Yet, my spellcasters generally have such a hard time there that I hardly bother to try, levelling up in the ID instead. My Assassins and Fighters tend to not have any problem there, but they usually die somewhere in the UD.

Blessed scroll of magic mapping, teleport control, source of teleportation. (preferred method to traverse high risk areas. Not foolproof, though, cause a monster might stand on the stairs...)

aha, but what's the chance that his lv 16 weaponsmith found those things? A wizard might have them, though

Invisibility might be enough, I'd say.
There should be enough potions of invisibility generated, they are pretty common.

Pick up the guaranteed wand of teleporting in case you need a quick getaway.
