A level 9 char decides to fight some hill-orcs. He slaughters one or two and then in one turn..."The hill-orc decides to fight to the death in a blind rage"..."you die"

A level 1 char just starting out finds kranach who I have defeated many times with other dwarvish paladins. And guess what? in one turn..."Kranach decides to fight to the death in a blind rage"..."you die"

why does this happen? is it predictable? I would hate to lose another char to this lame bit of luck.

I don't think it's fully predictable, but some monsters tend to start fighting in a blind rage when they step on a corpse of a monster of the same type

Nahh, they just get angry, Blind rage should be when your almost dead and you go all out at the enemy, trying to take them down with you.
not sure if it happens any more, but ive had monsters go into blind rage and kill themselves and then become more powerfull

*The titan decides to fight to death in a blind rage, the titan hits himself, the titan hits himself, the titan dies, the titan suddenly looks more powerfull* sucked because i didnt get the xp

About the angry thing
(The bandit steps on the bandit corpse. The bandit becomes enraged! or You start eating a bandit corpse. The bandit watches you and becomes enraged!)

what does it do? Do they gain +damage and less DV mabye?

I think I noticed that they were hard (impossible?) to tame after being enraged...

*The titan decides to fight to death in a blind rage, the titan hits himself, the titan hits himself, the titan dies, the titan suddenly looks more powerfull*

Actually, it's:

*The titan decides to fight to death in a blind rage, the titan hits the titan, the titan hits the titan, the titan is killed, the titan suddenly looks more powerfull*

Just nitpicking :P But that means it's not that obvious - you only know what's happening when there's only one of the creature nearby.
Move the cursor to the desired position and press [SPACE] when done.
Impossible. Suddenly you stand elsewhere.
You see an ancient altar of black obsidian.
The goblin rockthrower suddenly shouts a prayer to his gods! You are consumed by a roaring column of flame!

Glad I use the unofficial patch, which is hard to find nowadays...

To be extraordinarily nitpicky :P, its

"The titan decides to fight to death in a blind rage. The titan hits the titan. The titan is killed! The titan suddenly looks more powerful."

What is this unofficial patch you are speaking of?
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

Molach

The blind rages are meant to equate with the very aggresive or berzerk tactics setting. They do not effect the monster in exactly the same way as it effects a player charcter. (I think)

I don't know what the adjustments are exactly. TB added it so that it didn't seem like every monster that got to low HP would flee. Someone made a request for enhancemnet on ADOM Central and TB, like the God he is, considered it and decided that it would be so.

TB is no doubt fixing the bug that causes blind rage-d creatures to attack themselves, and changing it so that they commit suicide to deprive us of experience. Or just fixing it.

I think this is a good enhancement. I like ADOM dangerous, that's why I always play (at least) 50 line games. So much harder.

And always remember. If you are going to post a bug or an RFE for Mr Biskup, take the time to search and see what has already been posted. In theory he has to read all of it. Don't waste his time. He needs to put it into JADE.

Cheers.

=)

It's an old feature, yeah
It adds flavor, and makes the game a lot more unpredictable. Only thing that might kill a solid D:50 char could be this (Balor raging against character)

Suicide bug is also known & reported, and is mostly slightly annoying, except when a questmonster kills itself, in which case the PC does not receive quest credit. And this can really be a game-killer (no sting+needle or ultra, for instance).

My question was "does anyone know what benefit an 'enraged' monster (enraged by stepping on an alike corpse, or watching the PC eat an alike corpse) receive?"

I was wrong about taming, they can still be tamed, not much problem there either.

Fight to death in blind rage looks to be different, that seems to be double normal attacks for one round.

Yah.

And to your question. I don't know. But for some reason I am sure that it is not the same and PC berserk.

Reason ain't always goos for me, though...
