c'mon! Gnomish farmer or merchant is far worse than necro or mindcrafter - at least necromancers have a guaranteed frost bolt book and mindcrafters can confuse + mind blast by lvl 6.

Ubi patria ibi bene!

Aaron is very very close to getting a win. He has arrived on D:50 and on D:49 the uselessness gift was the bracers of war an item I really needed in my final battle with chaos :P. Think the biggest challenge on winning D:50 will not be the monsters but the courrption as I am getting close to 100% corruption :( and kinda short of my chaos resistance scrolls. Meh today when I get home from school I am gonna make the final tackle and see what happens. This could be my first mindcrafter win also so wish me luck :P and gonna write up my summary to D:50 later on :P

Mewto: Tract of chaos is random, no particular class gets it.

Bolto: Good luck. Hardest part of the game is usually ACW. But corruption can kill on D:50, its very swift there.

My own char just found a certain ring, and then got a certain amulet, which enabled him to advance in the game...gonna do rift before fire tower, if I complete that Im pretty sure Ill win too.

I'd say the hardest character yet is gnome farmer. Weak class, weak race gotta hurt.
High elf merchant isn't very easy either and we got 2 of those...human farmer and dark elf mindcrafter pretty hard to start with too.

My bard was easy enough in the start due to PV +3 clothes. Would have been a lot more pain without. Also heir gift was good. (Had to give up alert though)

What are the easy r/c so far? Mabye dwarven paladin?

Reading a few of the entries, I notice that some chars died in the SMC or outlaw village. These places can be very tough for weak characters. Much better to start in the ID, get a first kill of goblin or kobold and then stay on level 1-2 till you get some basic stuff. When one only gets one shot, I think this is the smartest way to do it.

Ask yourselves, if it were you own life on the line (Thomas, the human merchant) if you would go to SMC or even outlaw village...

My gnomish farmer died on lvl37, boring death against Snake from Beyond's venom. Even tho it was promising, got Ankh, Schorching spear, and an SLB, but got 2 hits of poison and died soon after.

Merch, the high elf marchant is going well.

Got scorched spear and Protector shield as random power surge and pre-crowning gift respectively. Found an Amulet of lifesaving somewhere ( i didn't realise i had it till Thundarr identified my items) and 3 PoGA.

just got the drwarven axe Rolf's Companion from the Dwarven Mystic ( i would rather have had the SoCR to be honest). Just massacring the animated forest with my scorched spear at the moment.

Level 14 and going strong....

In case no one could be bothered to read my long post in the other thread went to D:50 and after a long and hard battle against chaos

Aaron. L50 human mindcrafter (M). 29569308 xps. 102367 turns
Won on 11/4/2005.
He saved the world with his brave efforts and became a great
Ruler while saving himself 33 times.

He scored 23918364 points

woohoo :D my random character was acutally a winner. The final battle in D:50 took over 45 minutes to win. And nearly bit the dust to the corruption but managed to hold out to kill all the balors and then proceeded to clear the entire room and ensure a victory. Got the corruption all cleared on my way out and yeah won. Made the final touches to the .flg and have submitted it to the hall of fame.

Yeah ACW is one of the hardest fights in the game considering the level where you might fight him and that damn energy beam he fires took off a third of my life everytime it hit. Took all my potions and prayers to slay that damned thing.

Anyways good luck with the ToEF Molach and hope you slay that wyrm before it turns you into roast dinner

Molach you're right... dwarven paladin seems really easy. Once you reach L15 or so you can melee almost anything and if you get a few backup spells you're almost invincible. See the other thread for a short summary of my current character (expecting a win tomorrow).

There are actually 2 dwarven paladins in the HoF already.
Human mindcrafter is a first.
Dark elf bard is a first too.
(Doesn't mean they are harder, mabye just less played.)

Rolf's companion seemed to be written off these days. Even after all the toning down its still a great weapon and is a boon if you can access the mystic room early. Aaron NEVER used anything else but Rolf's companion for the whole game after getting it

Mindcrafters have a very tough going but are really good once they have gained some levels though this is the first mindcrafter to get over double digits in levels seeing a lot of my previous mindcrafters die a lot to bad luck and carelessness (last one died suddenly to a stone block trap right out of nowhere walking in a corridor) :(

And lol I didn't realise my human mindcrafter was the first of its type to win also :)

I don't see why Rolf's Companion is a great weapon. My dwarf paladin got it from the mystic and prompty sold it to Waldo's for saccing cash. I used almost exclusively a spear (orcish then adamantium then eternium) for the entire game except in the ToEF (Wyrmlance) and in the Air Temple (Serpent's Bite).
From my character's flg:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weapon Skills
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Melee weapon Lvl Hit Dam DV Level Required marks
--------------------- --- --- --- -- ------------- --------------
Pole arms 15 +20 +12 +22 Grand Mastery
The hit/dam/DV gained from spears is simply awesome...

Meh at the time Rolf's companion was much better compared to my normal scimitar. I didn't get any sort of exceptional weapons generated throughout the game really. Looking at the flg file I saw Executor got generated for axes but never found it (guessing it was in that greater undead vault I skipped)

Had no weapons with good mod's generated on it like devastation or penterating and by the time I got wyrmlance it was very late game and my axe's and shield skills were that high it was generally not worth using at the time. Rolf's companion though in this game came through in the end and at the end of the day ifs its a win its a win :)

Aaron's Axe and shield skills

Melee weapon Lvl Hit Dam DV Level Required marks
--------------------- --- --- --- -- ------------- --------------

Axes 14 +16 +14 +4 Mastery 1146

Shields Lvl DV Level Required marks
--------------------- --- --- ------------- --------------
Shields 12 +24 Mastery 1976

Just missed grand mastery on axes :(

Here is an update on Merch, the high elf merchant:

Now level 18, having completed all the Thundarr quests, Tomb of the High Kings, saved Khelly and done the Dwarven Graveyard.

His luck seems endless, as i found a WoW with 3 charges and now have SLB and AoLS to help me to the ToEF (used 1 charge for Khelly's AoLS and 1 for SoCR as i didn't get any off the Dwarven Mystic).

Just got crowned and got the Iron Crown of Havlor (not bad really).

Even managed to beat a moloch in the arena after being crowned champion of the arena.

Fingers' crossed for the ToEF (i got fire immunity as a crowning gift - hurrah!)....

Well, I had to leave the ToEF as a fire giant king was handing me a good old pasting. I'm now in the Dwarven undead graveyard in the CoC and........................................................

I've found a second wand of wishing! Woo hoo! Only 1 charge (plus the final wrench charge) but hey-ho. Not sure what to wish for now...

You won't believe this, but in the graveyard in the CoC i dug up a great treasures grave and found a RoDS as well! Blessed it with Holy Water and wished for "Concentration" as I've failed to learn any spells so far, so need to start quickly,I have about 15 books but can't learn any :(

When is the RNG going to get me?

Merch, the high elf merchant, still going strong so far.....

Extremely experienced ki-rin tension room with down staircase on it on D:47. At least.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

Rings of ice for the tower
Rings of slaying
Gemology - to find crystals of knowledge with to get LE up to 26-27, or potions of learning if your learning is already that high. (to learn spells). Spellbooks of acid ball could be handy as well

Merch is still going strong.

Finished the Tower after diving to the wall of flames first to get xp.

He's now got the Fire orb and water orb and i'm just in the air temple. Avoided the cat lord after massacring lots of cats :) and found a blue dragon vault on lvl 33 and the iron gauntlets artifact (+7 strength is useful to a merchant who is meleeing everything).

Managed to lose my amulet of lifesaving though - an acid vortex exploded and destroyed it :(
I may (not) live to regret that.

Merch is now level 27 and is the highest i've ever got a merchant. Can he do it???????????

PS Molach - merchants automatically get Gemology :)

Well Merch bit the dust - in the Mana Temple. The Chaos Archmage was just too tough and blasted him to pieces.

He was level 32 before he died but realy quite weak for that level, due to being a merchant.

So close, yet so far......
