It happened again... Level 19 human elementalist. All was well, normal, but when I loaded the game, the 'You feel as if you ran out of luck' message appear and all my stuff was curse, just like that, with no reason. I opened my computer, Win98 but I play in DOS, opened Notepad (for my gaming notes) and started ADOM. Could it be because of a bug in MY computer ? It happened to me several times, always around levels 19-20. I saw something about 'sector program' in the ADOM bug database. What is it about, does somebpdy know ? It really pissed me off; all was going so well for him. Damn it ! I swear I will no longer pay ADOM until a new version appear. Too frustrating to end a character that way. Have you tried playing both the Windows version and the DOS version? Apart from that, I've got not the slightest idea what could be going wrong... You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?" Which direction? (123456789) 4 Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated. You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd! |

The "run out of luck" message (and associated effects) is generated when the checksum validation finds a discrepancy. This is usually due to: 1. A virus. 2. A hard-drive fault. 3. Savegame editing or some other form of cheating that modifies savegame files. 4. Some other corruption of the game files (e.g. extreme fragmentation). |

And the correct answer is : 1. A virus Thanks a lot ! I'm now at peace again with Adom :-) BTW, I played both Win and Dos version and i found the Windows version to be very buggy. All your base are belong to us. |

I've played ADoM for DOS, Windows, and Linux, and I think it's crashed at least once for me on each operating system. Maybe not for Linux, but I haven't played nearly as much on Linux as on the other two. It could be that the Windows version is buggier, though. Molach: "I like to have 200+ hp and over 5 good healin potions when I do [the fire] temple. AND some way of killing the Wyrm" Morio: "Some way of killing the worm is recommended, yes :D" |

I have played the windows version for years now...never had a problem...when I did play the DOS version never had a crash either. I must have been pretty lucky good to know that it was caused by a virus...didnt think of that. good luck with your next game |
