Troll healer, born under candle....found an eternium chainmail and a two handed sword of devistation in the small cave.....at level 3, I head over to the chaos dungeon...and I get ambushed by one of those bastards.

with a base movespeed of 97 (I was bloated from an ambush by a very large jackle pack) he caught up to me, and took my 42 hps down in 2 rounds, the first round stunning me.

Just when I was getting my hopes up for a SUPERB char..... :/

this seem to happen to anybody elese? you find some really, really great stuff, and then just as you get your hopes up, BAM, fail.

That's the RNG for you. If a game seems to be treating you too well, that's when it's time to get extra careful...

Happens to me almost always. For example, I had a really promising wizard with great spells for the moment, and nice weapon (some scimitar of devastation or something).. And do you know how the guy died? I was crossing a river, froze the river with ice bolt on the shorters route. There's a door, and I did not have ice behind me, but southwest or southeast. I try to open the door, it's locked. I had a bad feeling about that... But I had come a long way there, and didn't have much food to return, and that door was the only way to get forward. So, kick-kick.. Suddenly stones topple from the roof, and I have no space to jump backwards -> death.

You just have to try many times, it's Random Number Generator after all.. In some point you'll make it :D

You should rename the Random Number Generator to Random Character Terminator. That'd at least be honest

this just happened to me:
i was in a room and taking one step to the right would put me in front of a closed door. naturally i moved diagonally down/right before trying to open it... stepped straight into a fireball trap and died.

Ouch, trying to avoid a trap and dieing to a fireball trap. I don't play wizards for that reason. But it's annoying my farmer without healing with a nice eternium two handed sword keeps getting hit by traos, btw how much does a eternium THS of devestation do? Like 8d6+20? That would ROCK.

Eterinium THS does: 10d5 (3d5 for THS, double that from eterinium, +4 from devastation) +24 (+3 base, +15 from eterinium, +6 from devastation).
That's a base of +18, 10d5+24. Ofcourse, you can get a bit more. And don't forget, that you'll die from a trap, or an out-of-depth monster vault if you ever find such a weapon early on. :D The RNG does not forgive ;P

>this seem to happen to anybody else?

You're kidding, right? Elven wizard, had done puppy and druid cave and a quick dip into ID, had a =oDamage, spear of devastation, penetration and one of hunting. Two sets of seven league boots. Hell, in years of playing i think i've found more wands of wishing than those. Nice armor and adamantium tower shield. All the nice spells except teleport. Go down UD, find two herb levels with 2x2 patches of all the the good stuff and an altar. YAY, we have a winner! Next level i open a door and see a lightning vortex. I close the door and that sucker EXPLODES BEHIND THE DOOR, killing me! ARRRRGHH!

Yes, this seems to happen to everybody else.

I bet that I'm gonna pay for my luck soon. I have eternium plate mail, eternium THS, and a helmet of water breathing that I found in the big room. I survived the RNG's first attempt at *revenge* when it generated an ancient karmic dragon which was completely not meant for my level 14 trollish barbarian at the big room. I luckily had a book, so I read it, teleported out of sheer confusion by the book, and survived.

Eh, if since you said your character was invincible I would bet 100 turns... If you like that character it will be 10...

I've got a permanently invisible character with an AoLS in the UD, and I can't play him because he was generated on a map layout I don't know how to switch to.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

Simple. I started the game, it suddenly was in a different DOS-layout, and just for kicks I generated myself a random character - orcish healer. Kicks ass. Or at least he would do so, if I could find a way to make the game work again. I don't have a clue how many lines the layout contained.

Sad. I'd have wanted to *see* the casino.

Ah, my trollish barbarian with the good stuff is still alive after 2000 turns.A greater moloch vault was generated on D:22 I believe, and me being the noob I am, recklessly started attacking them.I killed 2 ,gained a level, searched back in my memory as to why I had a bad feeling about this, and remembered that they are good. Luckily when I was a 10 Hp(I have vanquisher so, hehe) teleportitis kicks in and I'm on the stairs...I am one lucky guy.....In your face Cat Lord Lord!
Just joking!

Silfir open ADOM and when it's running right-click on the actual app in the task bar. There will be an option for screen or layout or something and you will be able to set the rows and columns. The size you use will have to be above what the size you are trying to load the save from. Back up the character, make the size huge, and keep decreasing it 'till he won't load anymore. Then you've found it. The Casino's pretty cool at high "resolution"s.
