Ok, I was drinking out of a pool and now I have intrinsic invisibility and a ton of resistances... in other words I got really lucky :D

Question is, though - will this cause me any problems as the game goes on? Or is it just good all-around?

assuming you have permanent invisibility, only inconveniences i can see is not being able to do the arena while invisible (drinking a potion of visibility solves this. you become visible temporarily, i think) and luring monsters for any reason (to an altar, to another level, etc), becomes harder as you'll have to get their attention first.
Taz: A potion of gain attributes (4s) is lying here. Suddenly a stone block hits your head! Something on the ground is smashed to pieces!
PeanutGod: Awwww no! How harsh is that! This is where you need the artefact 'mop and bucket'.

I just found out about the arena bit ... will have to sort that when I get the quest from the dwarf guy to become champion...

I have it pretty well for sac'ing though - I have a C altar just inside a doorway on the 3rd floor of the CoC. I just go into the room, sidestep the altar (heh, I don't want to get sac'd) then pop up behind it and monsters just seem to love walking right onto it :D

About arena. By not doing this you miss out on:
Gold and experience from fights (including fights after you are champion)
Cannot complete 4. and 5. dwarven quest. Lose rewards: Kinda Sucky artifact weapon and items from dwarf (most often extra healing potions, sometimes gain attributes potion)
Cannot receive golden gladius. Lose out on gaining tactics, backstabbing and two weapon combat skill. Lose out on weapon marks gain from Bart.

Worst losses are the skills, and some decent equipment. But being permanent invisible is a great bonus for the rest of the game.

Will a cursed potion of invisibility make me visible long enough to get into the arena?

no.
curse potion of invisbility blinds you.
one blessed potion of visbility is usually enough if you just keep teleporting your oppponents out of arena.
if you heven't got one: say hello to gfremlin scumming:)

edit: losing tactics is a bad deal. very bad.

Well, I guess it's a moot point now... I had to restart.

The stupid book shop generated a second artifact and I can't be bothered to wait till 14 to get a precrown, so bleh...

I'll keep this one around though, just in case I want to go back to it... it's still very playable and I've got some pretty decent stuff (blessed amulet of healing, blessed 7lb's, crystal shield, ring o' speed, etc... and have teleport spell :)

Well, sod the precrown and play that guy! Would've been some crappy stuff anyway.

And why is it so hard to get to level 14? Are you playing a troll?
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

You could go to ID:9, or mabye even 19 to build exp and equipment while slowly getting level 14.

I can guess what artifact the BOOK shop generated, so tough luck there.

I would try to get a precrown, because it looks like you need a decent weapon. But by all means, this is NOT mandatory. You will get great weapons anyway.

Don't give up
