You bet I will.
I play Half-Life 2 and still play Half-Life.
I still play DOOM. Orriginal DOOM.
Hell I still play Zork now and again.
I'd play "Bowling" if I could find a working VAX 11/780 :)

The ID... so this is the ADOM community.
Aren't there enough proofs against the end of ID? There is an end, after which comes the well-known integer overflow. Just do a little scripting if you don't believe me. (actually, not really me, but the guy who did the experiment.)

feel sure that i'm aware of ID not being endless.
the idea is to win the game normally and then complete the ID (which is really challenging imho, no scumming and no invincible berserkers involved, of course)

The first playable version of JADE is really unlikely to be better than ADOM.

ADOM has been carefully improved and balanced over years with the help of tons of thousands dedicated fans providing bug reports, RFE's yielding game improvement and whole new ideas. (Which doesn't mean it's perfect. I think we all know that there are still nasty bugs left.)

JADE will, after creation, be the work of a single man, the Creator of ADOM, but a single man nonetheless. Thus, full of bugs and improvable stuff, since a single person cannot create a perfect game, not even a near-perfect game, without feedback from players.

There's no way the first version of JADE (0.7.0?) can beat ADOM 1.1.1 in playability or balancedness or even number of features.

What the first version of JADE *will* be, however, is a whole new game with new concepts, new strategies, new ideas. Shortly put, it will be *new*. And a new game is likely to be more fun than an old game... at least in the beginning.

Even though there is Dungeon Siege 2, Sacred and stuff - I still find myself preferring good old Diablo 2 - LoD over these games. If JADE doesn't live up to its predecessor, I think I will return to playing ADOM from time to time...

I reserve my vote for whether or not to play ADOM after JADE till I actually see and try it. It might be better all around (in most peoples opinions), in which case ADOM will fade quickly away.

JADE might be promising, but needing fixes for some years, in which case Ill probably play an occational ADOM game.

JADE might be very different, in which case Ill play an occational retro ADOM game

JADE might also be a flop, in which case...

A computer program will usually get universally better as new versions are released, due to thinking up new features, squashing bugs etc.
(Windows?)

A movie-serie will usually get worse, because you used up the exciting stuff the first time, and release the rest to make money off the first one's success.(Matrix?)

Computer games can fall somewhere between these two chairs. As a program, most likely better. New features, most likely better, but can lead to too much micro-management that distracts from the fun of a simple but brilliant game. And mabye an exciting storyline suddenly becomes tedious and predictable. Who can tell?

CIV-series-
CIV I - great game. Played it a lot.
CIV II - better in all regards IMO. Played a LOT, Never looked back.
CIV III - some better, some worse things. Played some, while still playing CIVII occationally.
CIV IV - better in all regards IMO. Never looked back to the previous.

2 nOOb-mAsTeR:

Spoiler

u can make an average berserker emperor (who have DV = 30) pick up and equip various DV-decreasing items together with moloch armor and his DV will drop below zero thus becoming *incredibly* huge due 2 a bug (in theory, didn't check it by myself)
then tame him with wedding ring (if u're playing a male char *only*)and u'll have a berserking companion with a ton of DV and a significant amount of PV, who probably will slay *anything* in his way
kinda helpful for ID deep dive if u play a bard but the effect is produced by a simple bug, just like piety overflow, so i guess it's not like fair to exploit it

and hell yeah, ADOM had been developed for more than 10 years (from 1994 if i'm not mistaken)
it's almost a perfect computer rpg)
best hack'n'slash ever made no doubt

The fact is ADOM hasn't changed that greatly in the last 8 years. Some even prefer to use older versions. From a fairly early stage ADOM was brilliant, and little bits and pieces have been added since to make it more fun, but without the gameplay changing.

Battle Bunny, I don't know if it's just me, but it seems as if you're arrogant and judgemental.I'm still relatively new to the game, and enjoy trying things in the game.So you might want to try to act nicely, cuz the negativity is annoying.

Edit: I'm not trying to sound harsh, but just look at my name.I'm currently trying to do what the game is for:fun. So if me having fun is lame, then whatever.I guess since you're a level 50 forumer you have the right to judge.

Noob master - Do whatever you want with the game. It doesn't matter what other people think. Some people know some things about the game that others don't and vice versa. Everytime I experience something new, I always feel proud. I don't give a damn if someone else already knows what happens, the fact is that I didn't and I learnt something. Adom is a one player game after all. Enjoy it as much as you can.

Last time I was arrogant was when I was criticising the decision about the story forum reanimation, thank you. It's just that I don't really like people using exploits to make their character the best while I just like to get by with exploit. But I don't want to force you not to use exploits, you can, it's just that you will live up to your name. (Sorry, I just wanted to throw that in since I saw that name :P )
