I was wondering if this corruption had an upper limit on the Strength gains it gives. My dark elven ranger now has a base str of 40 and didn't seem to be getting any further increases. This coincided with my Willpower stat reaching one. But even after I trained that up a few points, I didn't get more Strength.

Question: has anybody gotten over 40 Strength through this corruption?

Question: I lost 6 dex points (from 32 to 26), was this from the Apish corruption, which I believe? I checked my equipment and other corruptions, and the character page, there doesn't seem to be any other cause.

Question: off the original topic, but another cumulative corruption, "Your corrupted tissue seems to heal much faster" It states that each scar reduces dexterity by 1 point. If you eat Gelee Royale, which removes scars, does that give you back your lost dexterity?

Question: what is the upper limit on Dex gains from eating corpses of those death beetles from the temple? Since my willpower is so low already, I'm thinking it's a good time to boost my characters Dex and speed.

technically there is no upper limit. practically your chances drop quite fast after your stats overhit 38-40 limit. it counts for corruption too.

Oh yeah, I saw on another thread that it's like 1% chance after the stat reaches 40. Ouch. No point in draining my learning willpower and dex to 1 to try and get over 40 Strength.

How about gelee royale and dex loss due to the regeneration corruption? I'm guessing the lost dex doesn't return even if you lose the scars by eating the gelee.

The ape corruption will keep boosting your strength endlessly in my experience. I've never let my Wi get down to 1 though. Still, I've gotten St and To over 50 from that corruption (I always find it increases To too, though that's undocumented).

Darren - Yeah, I noticed that To increase too but figured it was something else, I'd been progressing so fast with that character it was hard to keep up with every little change. I'll have to write about her wild adventures in another thread.

I had gotten the +ST +TO a bunch of times, until both were about 40. It had been a long time since my last increase, compared to the frequency of the earlier increases. I figured it had reached it's pinnacle, otherwise I would have kept it until ST and TO were both 99. Also, I didn't want to totally destroy my learning and dex scores (the cumulative -1 dex penalty seems to be another undocumented affect). So BSoCR and bye bye Apish.

Interestingly, with only 5 willpower, the ACW still had trouble confusing me. A ring of mental stability cut down on confusion time too. He/She/It almost got me when I was close to the altar... but using first aid skill repeatedly prevented me from moving onto that altar by accident in my confused state. About 6 direct hits of Blessed Arrows of Dragon Slaying and ACW was down for the count.

Anybody - Are there any further accelerations in background corruption after day 90?

Nope. There was planned to be, but it was probably deemed to severe an effect.

The apish and healing tissue corruptions are hand down, the worst no-can-live-with corruptions the game has to offer. Get rid of the ASAP!!!!

My über ranger was puffed enough to take out both, keriax and ACW, with 2 hits from blessed dragon slaying ammo. Though she was at that point already cleared library, bugwil/caw and maze so acw and keriax are kinda pushovers compared to emperor cow or emperor liches.

i do believe scars are overvalued. At least if you search for DiG on this forum you'll see mine grey elf merchant didn't suffered a lot from keeping that.

Yeah, scars really aren't so bad, and the extra healing can be handy at times. In terms of can't live with I'd only say poison hands (though you can get around it), unholy aura (just hideous) and mana battery (though obviously this has its applications it can be a major nuisance to a character that relies on wands).

Worst corruption to me by far is the

'Your muscles have stiffened slowing
you down (base action cost: 1500
energy points'

If you get it on D:50 and have no
scrolls, it makes life a lot tougher.

Apish and tissue are kind of okay to me, at least as long as my dex is below 27 anyway.

I use blessed SoCR to get rid of stiff muscles, battery and poison hands, usually. Or attunement if I absolutely don't want teleportitis, controlled or not.

I love unholy aura. Especially if you don't need shopkeepers for selling/buying stuff (or can't afford their things), might as well convert them into experience. Just have to watch out for Cursing/Dooming and alignment change. And randomly scaring monsters off, + the DV bonus, great great great.

Apish is great in the early game, before Khelevaster.
Unholy Aura is awsome in the late game, after you're done with the casino and the earth temple.

Stiff muscles is the only corruption which doesn't have any use.
