Usu., i just sell and sacrifice the gold for inventory cleaning/weight cleaning, etc., esp if I'm dwarf.
now, let's say i'm a high elf.. and there's a ring shop conveniently parked right outside my alignment's altar.. I'm lvl10 with 1 artifact generated and a couple pots of invisibility.
i'm obviously really close to getting a crowning thing [which i never got before]. so.. will stealing and sacrificing a couple of rings let me get crowned?
Everyone beware..

Sounds like an unnecessary risk to me. ADOM is a game of patience, so I suggest you hold out a little longer and continue to play cautiously. A safe opportunity to get crowned should emerge soon.

What Gozer said.

The best method if you were to rob the shop using invisibility would probably be to first enter the shop, pick up all the rings, drop them close to the entrance, leave the shop, drink the potion, then enter the shop, pick up the stuff and LEAVE immediately. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, you're dead. And since the key to winning ADOM is just to keep not dying till the end, I wouldn't risk it.

Also, how close are you? If you've reached the "very close" stage, the rings might push you over the edge. At any stage below ("Spiritual invincibility"), DON'T DO IT.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

how are you dead in such case, Silfir?

either you pick rings or shopkeepeer notices you and claims for pay.
most posssibly he will notice you in middle of picking so i'd advice sorting rings.

and looking for messages 'couse shopkeepers sometimes claim you need to pay but not block doors for invisble chars.
