It's just for roleplaying, I like the idea of a goody-two-shoes high elf fallen from grace and gone evil. Made it to id, where by stairscumming I've already gotten fire bolt and burning hands, so it's not too bad. If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. i used to get a bunch of lightning or ice something weapons when i killed jackals in the wilderness - might have been a different build though. well, the luckiest thing that happened may also have been my unluckiest i was lucky in that i found a couple of pots of willpower well, as for UNluckiest thing, i was a wizard or something with magic missile or lightning bolt - i was low on health so i shot a kobold down a large corridor. i was all, "wow, that lightning bolt/magic missile went pretty far." then i got hit by my own spell, twice. same thing happened when i tried to kill a moloch in a very small room ^_^ except i died several times over. Possibly my favorite moment in ADOM. Gray elven wizard on PC3 or so, he's maybe third level. He's wounded, out of PP, and bloated so he's heckuv slow. I'm trying to get out and run into an ogre in a hallway. I know he's going to crush me and I have nothing to kill him with. In desperation, I throw my only crude knife at him. "You hit the Ogre and slightly wound him. The Ogre bleeds from his wounds". I back off but he's coming right at me and I'm too slow to outrun him. I duck around a corner but he keeps coming. He steps right next to me and I think to myself "OK, this is it, dead wizard." And then... "The ogre suddenly collapses!" SWEET! You pick up the worn boots. |

OK, the character immediately before the one I'm playing now started with a PoGA and a PoCC. Then she died of blood poisoning...damned dark elves. My current character has found TWO AoLSs and she's only gotten down to D:12 or so. WTF??? I only need one, stupid RNG, save the second one for my next character! You pick up the worn boots. |

I'm always level 5 when I leave the smc, then its off to the vd or ud, depending on if I have healing, I never go for the CoC with a level 6 char, but to each their own. |

Unless I seriously want to not die, it's SMC -> UD for me, usually I'm level 10 at the end. Even trolls should be level 7 or 8, and after VD *and* PC (I always do it before the CoC, puppy or not), level 9 or 10. With trollish toughness, that's enough to survive a trip to the CoC. You can do it earlier if you don't take the swamp route, though - With the Swimming skill, you should be capable of getting across the central river. You drop the golden ball.
