What are all the special rules for monks? I know this much: If you get burdened, unarmed melee ability disappears.

There are also other things, like concerning armor. I think monks get some sort of DV bonus depending on char level, if they are wearing light stuff like clothes. What counts as this light armor? Elven chain? Robes? I'm pretty sure leather armor is already too heavy. What about other pieces of armor, like headgear, boots, etc?

Monks can use weapons without any penalties, right? What about shields? Do they still get the dodge bonus for light armor when using weapons and/or shields?

What about race? I'm thinking of drakes or humans for food pres so as to get me some strength and some guaranteed !oCC. Gnomes might be another choice, faster leveling, gemology for kicking down walls = *oK = some spellcasting at least.

Trolls for the ultimate monk? :D Monks eat little, negating trolls' problems, trolls = strength AND gemology for *oK = spellcasting. Am I onto something here? Nah, not really, the exp requirements are too high.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

Monks can use elven chain, clothes, and robes.
maybe 'light' armour, although not too sure.

Monks cant use shields with unarmed attacks (well, they can but damage goes back to basic)

They get wicked bonus to Dv despite all this..

They can use bracers and helmets and girdles and boots, scrolls of protect and defense on a GoGStrength and 7lB kicks ass.

Drakelings are good, Troll Monk under Book or Cup might be ok..

I usually play human monks anyway..

There are penalties for using melee weapons, only they are not as high as for beastfighters. So that eternium two-handed sword of penetration is still useful.

A race with high toughness would give you the easiest early game due to PV bonuses. I feel monks are pretty fragile on their first levels.

I'd probably go with Drakeling; orcs aren't that good for classes that already have Find Weakness.

You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"

Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

I've always been a fan of gnomes. Quick leveling helps you get your nice DV and damage bonuses. Plus, ventriloquism and pick-pocket help you in early (pick-pocket you could get by going to thief town, but I'm usually too lazy to do this).
Homework is not meant for home! It's a sick verbal coincidence!

Also they get 2 starting talents and a decent chance of getting 18 mana for 3 talents, not counting starsign or /7.
