Sup people!

Was having a chat with my mate the other day about the greatest game ever and we just started hurling questions at each other, so thought I'd turn it into a questiionnaire type thing!

1) What's your favourite race?
2) What's your favourite class?
3) Favourite spell?
4) Favourite artefact?
5) Favourite NPC?
6) Favourite location?
7) Favourite quest? Least Favourite quest?
8) Favourite monster?
9) Lawful, Neutral or Chaotic? Which do you prefer?
10) Favourite skill?
11) Favourite way to commit sucicide? (should you ever want to)
12) Prefered weapon style? (Swords? Spears? Flails? Shield and Sword etc)
13) Favourite pet?
14) If you could be the leader of any of the temples, which one would you pick?

Some are rather random, but some easy enough! My answers are:

1) Dark Elves - Love em to bits. So sneaky, evil, conniving...........just like me.
2) Assassins/Wizards - Don't really think I can choose between em.
3) Well, obviously Wish is nice, but casting it is a bitch. Of the others, has to be petrification. Just like creating a garden of statues :D
4) Has to be Robes of Resistance.
5) A toughie.....Keriax is cool. But then so is the Assassin Prince
6) Library
7) Fav - Diving to find Filk. Least - Thrundarrs 1st.
8) Dark Sage
9) Neutral
10) Find Weakness
11) Jumping into the piranha lake whilst bloated
12) Spear/shield
13) Greater Earth Elemental
14) Air Temple - Like having loads of lightning batter people's hard earned stuff!
Ladies and Gentleman, take my advice. Pull down your pants, and slide on the ice.

1. Humans - couse I am human after all
2. Assassins - somehow i am not the one:(.
3. Darkness. All my chars use it:)
4. From non class specific ones - Emerald dagger. From specifics - Vanquisher. Well, I definitely prefer weapons.
5. Oracle. Tasty one. Honestly i hate most of NPC. This one at least can be eaten for some gain.
6. Darkforge. Both in terms of items and in stylepoints.
7. Favorite - ogre cave, again tasty one. Least - Filk, i do not find fun in going for 50+ extra levels to search one bugger.
8. Fairy dragon. At least he doesn't double your gold.
9. Neutral.
10. Alchemy - both offensive and constructive uses.
11. Offering myself to a god on altar - fast and hopefully not painful.
12. Dual wielded whips (very nonpractical so usually skip on this). Most commonly used - spear and shield.
13.Ancient karmic dragon - just because that was the way I cleaned fire temple first time in my life.
14. Mana temple.
A root is a flower that disdains fame.

1) I have to say High Elf. Long lifespan, Dodge, capable of anything.
2) I don't really have one, I believe. I loved archers for a very long time; now I reroll if I get an archer because I think they're too easy.
3) Teleport.
4) The bracers of war, closely followed by Preserver. They're simply the best stuff you can get for their equipment slots.
5) Hard to answer... Yggaz is pretty funny.
6) If there is one, a greater vault.
7) The puppy quest, simply because it is hard to fulfill it with actually saving the puppy. Hard = challenge = fun.
8) Obviously, the ones that give you the most loot if you kill them, so I say wyrms. IF they aren't so powerful I can't kill them.
9) Most definitely lawful. You get chaos resistance if you're crowned lawful, you get access to all the stuff neutral get access to as well (Except Yergius stuff, admittedly) and you can sacrifice a lot more monsters than a neutral can.
10) It's hard to decide between Athletics, Alertness and Dodge for me... I think I'll take Alertness.
11) Usually, if I suicide, I do it by kicking at the air. It's the most readily available method. Now that you ask me, I think I would try to get the "choke on your own vomit" message next time I feel suicidal.
12) Whichever deals the most damage plus shield. I think spear/shield is somewhat wussy if you do it only to get the DV...
13) I hate pets. Both in ADOM and in real life :)
14) I'd love to be the Ancient Chaos Wyrm. I would go into hiding until all my servants were killed, then I would lurk around a corner waiting for a PC to ambush. Then I would chuck a potion of blindness at him, paralyze him with a handy wand, and shock attack him until he is burned to extra crispy. After which I would take all his stuff and go raze same orphanages.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

1) What's your favourite race?
Drakelings, Dark Elves, Hurtlings, in that order.
Alertness and Food Preservation.

2) What's your favourite class?
Barbarian. Easy early game. Hold down a button and watch those hordes squeal and drop, one by one.

3) Favourite spell?
Magic Map.

4) Favourite artefact?
Braces of War. Because they're shiny.
And they're braces. Of WAR.

5) Favourite NPC?
That one, over there. (don't have any. If I shouldn't kill them, they are annoying. Ok, the dwarven inn-keeper is nice. He gives booze and gossip.)

6) Favourite location?
Unremarkable Dungeon (UD).

7) Favourite quest? Least Favourite quest?
Become the champion in the arena. Cross the animated forest.

8) Favourite monster?
Gnolls.

9) Lawful, Neutral or Chaotic? Which do you prefer?
Neutral. The REAL chaotic (do anything, get away with everything)
10) Favourite skill?
Food Preservation. More corpses.

11) Favourite way to commit sucicide? (should you ever want to)
'Q'uitting. If I want to commit suicide, that char is not worth my time.

12) Prefered weapon style? (Swords? Spears? Flails? Shield and Sword etc)
Spear and Shield. Even with barbarians.

13) Favourite pet?
A Cute Dog named Kenny.

14) If you could be the leader of any of the temples, which one would you pick?
Temple of Elemental Kickass. It would have Chaos Pirates and Greater Teenage Mutant Ninja Ranger Ragers.
A pessimist sees a dark tunnel.
An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel.
A realist sees a train.
And the train driver sees three idiots on the tracks.

1) race? - Grey elves. Can't beat them for wizards.

2) class? - Wizards. Don't know if any other class has
a shot at closing the gate in ~35000 game turns.

3) spell? - Darkness or Teleport, I can't decide.

4) artifact? - Cats eye ring. You gotta earn that one.

5) NPC? - Yergius. He's the only NPC that stands
absolutely still, AND allows you to swap places
with him. You can use him for all kinds of fun
things, including swapping places with him to
block an angry shopkeeper from getting to you.

6) location? - Casino is the most profitable area in
the game. But if I am not using casino gold, I
would say BUGWIL.

7) quest? - Arena. I do it every time for the
fireproof blanket. Those things are vital, and can be
a real pain to find when you have limited turns.

8) monster? - Blink dogs! Ants are a close second
if i'm playing as a druid.

9) alignment? - Law.

10) skill? - Concentration. A spellcaster could do
without healing more easily than concentration.
For fighters I suppose healing though.

11) suicide? - Alchemical experiments or my own
magic missiles. I like blasting myself into the
afterworld.

12) weapon? - Eternium two-handed sword. I just can't
resist them, even if I'm a spellcaster.

13) pet? - Hate them all.

14) temple leader? - I suppose the Archmage probably
has the most laughs, listening to adventurers cursing,
as their equipment gets destroyed on the way to him.
Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong!

Hmm, interesting little quiz...

1) Race: Drakelings - by far the most individual, with varied heat effects and acid spit. Very nice stats/skills too. Gnomes would come a close second.

2) Class: Wizards - I love blastings things apart with spells, and you get so incredibly versatile with a big spell selection. Bards can also be nice for how versatile they get in all areas, and you can end up with some cool starting skillsets.

3) Spell: Too many to choose from! Death Ray is fun, especially in the BDC. Just cast away and everything disappears, leaving big piles of treasure behind. All the ball spells are amazingly fun on high willpower too.

4) Artifact: Executor always has a special place in my heart - huge damage and great slaying powers, with cursing to give it that little extra dangerous edge.

5) NPC: Mad Minstrel! So many great and fun songs (a few of which I submitted myself). He hides some interesting secrets too, like wanting the weird tome, which is somehow related to the Scroll of Omnipotence...

6) Location: White Unicorn glade - I always keep all my stuff there. DarkForge is nice for the shortcut too (as well as the items and wishes). Least favourite place is the bloody minotaur maze...

7) Quests: Favourite would be black druid - he's always a nice struggle near the start. Least favourite is killing the white unicorn - I've only done it once, and it felt, horrible, because she never fought back. I just kept chasing and acid balling her, until finally, after much suffering, she collapsed dead... I felt like a monster :(

8) Monster: Emperor liches! They'll rape your ass quicker than anything else.

9) Alignment: Neutral. I've always had a thing for the ways of balance, and the colour grey...

10) Skill: Concentration - magic's all but useless without it.

11) Suicide: Killing Andy without wielding the trident. Yeah, that was fun... Otherwise attacking NPCs you know will kill you quickly, or playing russian roulette with a wand of ball lightning in a corridor.

12) Weapons: I always stick with normal spear + shield, unless I find some really great one-hander to go with instead. Dual-wielding whips of the snake is immensely stylish though.

13) Pet: I never bother with pets - I think they get in the way. Just once though I'd like to take a fairy dragon with me through the whole game.

14) Temples: Gotta be Mana. Huge number of minions, with the wizards constantly summoning more. The attacker is forced to go through a gauntlet of traps, all the while having his mana sucked out of him. When he finally forces his way through, burnt and exhausted and battered, you death ray him. Nice :)

1) What's your favorite race?
Dwarves: PV and detect traps.
2) What's your favorite class?
Paladins: Melee AND spells.
3) Favorite spell?
Teleportation. Revelation is a close second.
4) Favorite artifact?
Executor, Serpent's bite, Bracers of war, Preserver.
5) Favorite NPC?
Khellevaster.
6) Favorite location?
BUGWIL
7) Favorite quest? Least Favorite quest?
Favorite: Griff quest. Least Favorite: Random monster quest.
8) Favorite monster?
Greater Molochs. Easy EXP if you're careful.
9) Lawful, Neutral or Chaotic? Which do you prefer?
Lawful, for one reason: safe use of altars.
10) Favorite skill?
detect traps.
11) Favorite way to commit sucicide? (should you ever want to)
Quit, its fast. If I want to be interesting next to attacking Kherab, the water dragon, or the casino.
12) Prefered weapon style? (Swords? Spears? Flails? Shield and Sword etc)
Spears/axes w/ sheild.
13) Favorite pet?
Ancient Karmic Dragon OR quickling king/queen.
14) If you could be the leader of any of the temples, which one would you pick?
Fire. Its the first serious level of defense.

Try reading the weird tome with a L50 bard with 100 literacy and music. There's definitely something interesting about it...

1) Darkelf - always sympathized with the dark side
2) Wizard (what else...)
3) death ray - there's nothing like clean instakill
4) the TotrR of course
5) the Mad Minstrel is pretty cool
6) The Library
7) Blue dragon caves - dragonhunting rules.
Hate the puppy quest. It's usually the first (and often the last quest) done - just sooo tired of the puppy cave...
8) Emperor lichs - they offer great challenging battles...
9) C no restrain!
10) Necromancy - sweeet!
11) Corruption / Poison
12) spearshieldist - boring I know...
13) Hate companions! But the flesh golem is cool: Buy it then first thing turn it on the doc himself - that fool! ;)
14) Fire Tower - PCs will enter poorly equiped. After creating lots of corruption traps I would just wait in some far corner quaffing boosting potions / casting farsight. After he cleared out most minions I would shoot him with poisoned humanoid slaying ammo from beyond sight hehehe. Then use a RoDS for Greater Molochs and throw hulking armors at them - MUAHAHAHAHAAA

After scanning adom.exe with vi and looking around the web, not much.

"It seems to be some kind of code, hinting at some ancient powerful magic, a scroll or something like that..."

EDIT: upon further thought, since you need to give the mad minstrel this in order to find the crumpled scroll, the weird tome might be connected to the crumpled scroll, and not the scroll of omnipotence.

And elsewhere I found this:

Note: @@@ means that I found some binary symbols there, not necessarily '@@@'.

"As you read the scroll you suddenly feel great power surging through your body. You feel invincible and your abilities are increased by enourmous amounts! Now you are a true champion of %s!@@@ripped to pieces by trying to claim power not meant for %s@@@Immediately you realize that this was a big mistake as you are not prepared for the wave of power that suddenly floats your body. You are ripped to pieces almost instantly!@@@You read the scroll of omnipotence.@@@"

followed by a list of deities and then messages that can be generated from messing around with altars.

That was all I found useful regarding that topic. At least, all I found useful other than the description of Filk.

EDITED for some misinterpretation (regarding confusing the crumpled scroll with the scroll of omnipotence)
"If the bread weights that much in the draklor chain, then it's no wonder so many die of starvation.
AND - what kind of IRON RATION weights as much as an iron shield?! A dinner for four, oven included? ;)"

Heh, that would be nice. Going through a lot of trouble trying to find the hidden scroll of omnipotence, actually getting it, only to get instakilled when reading it :D If I made a game someday, I'd be sure to include something like that in it.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

F50, a lot of your binary gunk has nothing to do with the weird tome or the scroll of omnipotence.

"Khelavaster puts down some stuff and then disappears in a bright blue light.@@@But you shall receive this. It hopefully will help you in your quest.@@@I now will depart since I can't oppose these mighty forces of Chaos with my weak powers.@@@sense a feeling of great relief.@@@His gaze once more is clear and all his wounds are gone!@@@Moments later his body is surrounded by a bright light and he reopens his eyes.@@@%s puts on the amulet, gasps, shudders and suddenly slumps to the ground.@@@%s snatches the %s with great haste!

All from giving Khelavaster a spoily amulet that will save him. "sense a feeling of great relief" is probably if you give him the amulet in darkness or while blind.

Dem damned sissys. No sense for a true man's challenge.@@@His grandfather already was annoying me.@@@Oh, that damned ratling brood.@@@He crumples it in disgust.@@@%s looks at the %s with disgust.

I think this is giving the ratling pamphlet to the arena master.

Huh? Oh, I have read that a long time ago. Pretty interesting."

Giving Khelly any scroll or spellbook, except the crumpled scroll which causes him to summon the Trident of the Red Rooster.

The %s turns to ashes.@@@You must not stray from that path lest ye will not succeed.@@@Be prepared and follow the path of Order to reap the reward.@@@Use it wisely.@@@Some folks confused the function of this scroll and created foolish legends about it.@@@An enormous amount of magical power is required for that.@@@Given the right combination of magical words one is able to extract this fine item from its hidden prison.@@@Ye should probably be able to make use of this.@@@Something whispers into your mind.@@@A gleaming weapon pulsing with power appears in the hands of %s!@@@%s starts to move his hands according to ancient arcane rituals you never before have witnessed.@@@%s suddenly seems to be very excited.

All these, I think, are messages from giving Khelavaster the crumpled scroll.

It does not seem to be made for you.@@@%s shakes his head in sadness as he regards you.

This is what happens if you're chaotic or a fallen champion when giving him the crumpled scroll (no Trident for you!).

%s looks bored.@@@I did what I could.

And this is what happens if you give him a second crumpled scroll (only possible by cheating).

%s says: "Mommy told me not to take any candy from strangers!"

Probably giving candy to a child.

ah, ok. That makes sense. removing from post. Without context, some of that (but certainly not all, the candy thing was merely showing that there was nothing else there) looked like it could be related to the scroll of omnipotence.

You can get further information from reading the weird tome than what is written above. Something along the lines of "Within is written a message in what looks like lines of music. You interpret the message. It gives directions on where to find the scroll of omnipotence. Unfortunately you cannot decipher any further."

Of course it's known that TB has deliberately put red herrings in the game and the code... Still, I find the Mad Minstrel fascinating, and like to think he knows a lot more than he lets on.

1) What's your favourite race?
Dark Elves. Alertness, Find Weakness, Coolness :D

2) What's your favourite class?
Ranger. Best starting skillset you'll get aside from lucky bards. Can lead to excellent starts.

3) Favourite spell?
Burning hands. Massive damage, few things resist it. No item destruction (?)

4) Favourite artefact?
Tough one. Natures Companion, two immunities, good DV/PV, +20 speed, for armor. Also, Suns Messenger and Kinslayer get me very excited.

5) Favourite NPC? Ratling Trader with cooked lizards!

6) Favourite location?
SMC. Great challenge, great test, and often excellent items if you can survive long enough to get them and get out with them alive. Shows you what you're made of with your gameplaying skills, and what your character is made of early game. Often times, the RNG will show you what your internal organs are made of...

7) Favourite quest? Least Favourite quest?
Kranach. 3,000 gold at level 5 is a small fortune, can get your equipment upgraded at the black market or the HMV. Least favorite is to cross the Animated forest.

8) Favourite monster?
Orcs. Massive numbers in vaults, I hold down an arrow key and MASSACRE them. Very satisfying.

9) Lawful, Neutral or Chaotic? Which do you prefer?
Chaotic. Kill shopkeepers, NPCs, whole towns, sacrifice almost anything, backstab and grave-rob and be evil with impunity!

10) Favourite skill?
Find Weakness. Double your damage, double your fun.

11) Favourite way to commit sucicide? (should you ever want to)
Fighting shopkeepers while doomed, or fighting mimic tension rooms with no paralyzation resistance :P

12) Prefered weapon style? (Swords? Spears? Flails? Shield and Sword etc)
Dual Wielding two swords. I AM A DEATHDEALER! RAAAAAAAA!!!

13) Favourite pet?
Cave bear. Watch bear. Watch bear rape. Watch bear rape SMC.

14) If you could be the leader of any of the temples, which one would you pick?

The temple of doom. Oh, I'm supposed to take this question seriously? The air temple. Summoning anything and everything, too much fun. Lets have some Killer Bugs to go with our Emperor Liches, Balors, and Greater Molochs. Lets see you beat THAT entourage, hero. HAH!

gut: There's a few different songs I submitted. They start with the following lines:

"At different times you may enter the Drakalor Chain"
"Deep in the forest of moving trees"
"Whether champion or fallen/
Nothing can protect you for long" (this got got split into two poems in the game - I've submitted a bug report)
"On Darknight chaos rules supreme"
"Fire - fierce and full of vigour/
These Four combine to make all life
Five keys you need to open the way" (again, these three verses got split up in the game)
"Molochs are mighty daemons to face"
"Go deep within the mountains and you will find"

I've submitted a few others since too, but I doubt they'll ever get implemented.

1) Orcs. Useful skills and they make great fighters, and of course the good side-effects - nutritious raw meat is one.
2) Archer. It can take out everything, except doppleganger kings.
3) Teleport, or if I have another source of it, then Petrification and Darkness tied for it.
4) Trident of the Red Rooster, then Preserver.
5) Demented ratling. So funny.
6) The Big Room, for herbs :)
7) Ssraxarrakexx killing/Random monster
8) Doppleganger king, a worthy match for any fighter or archer
9) Chaotic:
-almost complete freedom with
10) Healing
11) Drinking out the eerie pool of the Stone Circle
12) 2h swords
13) Fairy Dragon
14) Earth.
