How many hours do you think are involved coding a roguelike like adom? The compiler changes the c code into assembler so the program can be executed, I think. This process takes apparently took seven minutes on said Pentium 90. Kind of amusing, in a flippant sort of way. Sometimes trolling attempts are more amusing for the reactions they generate than the attempts themselves. I know from being on various other forums and seeing the vindictive chaos, people get along exceptionally well here. Not quite sure why. I guess the game is interesting enough that we don't get bored and resort to infighting to entertain ourselves. I'm sure a flame war could crop up at some point, but it would die down quick, because it's not so much about us, as it is about ADOM. It's really sad that some great games have forums that are full of pricks. This forum is quite nice and tolerant. New players get their questions answered, and not just with "Stfu noob, use search, RTFM, RTFGB". Although I must say, it's kind of easy to be nice, very few idiots seem to come to these boards. If we got a dozen new McHashes every month I'd probably start getting grumpy. I never bothered with all those threads about religion and stuff in the general forum, all tl/dr for me, probably some heated discussion in those.. If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. Echo was hilarious, I thought. Not sure if he was sincere in everything or not, but by gum was it entertaining. People trying to argue with him was silly though - it was obvious he would never change his beliefs (however stupendous they were). There was a brief creationism debate in the General forum last year, but it went the way of all such debates - each side thinking the other is wrong and not change their beliefs over any evidence. But it stayed mostly civilised and self-moderated, from what I remember. I think anyone trying to troll here would soon get fairly bored. You need a big forum to get enough idiots to rile up and start flamewars etc. This place is nice and quiet, with a small set of fairly mature people - a lot nicer than the bigger forums out there. Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |
