I downloaded ADOM recently, and it was running fine, and the other day I had to end the program in the Task Manager because it was lagging, and now it won't starts, but I want to keep my old highscores!
What do I do??

It should say what to do when you start it up - reading is tech ;)
Delete the adom.pst file in your adom directory/adom_dat/

"adom.prc" actually

In emergency you can still just copy the HIGHSCORE file to new adom directory

The DOS version of ADOM can lag after a long time of play or when you run other memory intensive stuff in the background. Usually you should save and reload. The game never froze for me, though.

Yes, if you have a large save file, the game can lag a bit, but it's rare, if you have enough RAM.
On 1 GB it should be fine most of the time.

Asuming you are using Windows XP (or Vista) and asuming you are playing the DOS version of the game it will run very ineffectively due to poor DOS backwards compatability.

The win32 version of the game will run a lot smooter on later Windows versions, though you will be stuck with the small window rater than fullscreen and loose the ability to ajust the number of lines to use for random maps like the pure command line versions support.

Alternatively download the ADOM sage frontend and use the Linux version under Windows instead (it acts like a single purpose emulator and adds a few neat features on top).

ADOM Sage is seconded - runs a lot smoother, and less crashes too in my experience. Plus the added interface changes are very nice indeed.
