Is it fairly common for things to sometimes change their appearance in ADOM? I have had many games in a row now where 7LB are 'Leather Boots', 'Ordinary Ring' is ring of the fish and Mimics look like grey rings... It's ok if you are aware of it - still, it kills the PC's morale |

Not mine. They were "leather boots" and "soft boots" for me each at least once. I've also had "onyx ring" being RoDS, and some other kinds of rings. As for AoLS, it's usually steel, but i've seen iron and platinum too. It should be that way. Every game should be as random as possible! You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?" Which direction? (123456789) 4 Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated. You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd! |

It seems to me that there are just a few item labels that are possible for each item. I don't think it's dependant on the danger level of the item though. I've seen SoCR labeled as 'Yik Mech Shegoth' and 'Yin Yang' but never something like 'Frotz'. I have seen AoLS as 'steel' and 'platinum', but never as something like 'amber'. It seems to me also, that the labels have become much more consistant, as ADOM has developed. If you download one of the gamma versions, you will probably notice more randomness in the item labels. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |

In my current game AoLS is bleak amulet. Had to wish for it, though. WoWi was glowing wand, RoDS ordinary rings, 7LB's worn boots but SoCR unlabelled scrolls. o_O? And yeah, he's a winner. For the Horde! [Edited 1 time, last edit on 2/12/2008 at 03:10 (GMT -5) by Mewto] |

I have a theory that the descriptions of AoLS and RoDS relate to the material they are made of. A ring described as an "adamantium ring" is always adamantium (obviously) and so is a ring described as an "ordinary ring" (not so obvious). An RoDS is always adamantium, so only descriptions which go with adamantium can apply to it. (I think the majority of rings are iron.) This doesn't work so well for AoLS because they are made of iron like most amulets, but it works excellently well for WoWi which I think are the only eternium wand and therefore will always be glowing wands. |

Urgh, ADOM item descriptions are so random. Sometimes I can't even rely on the wands pages because a bone wand can be a wand of stunning or farslaying on certin characters. You attack the Ancient pink dragon with all of your force, but do not mange to harm it! The Ancient Pink Dragon breaths a deathray, poision, fire, acid, ice, lightning, water, corruption, missle, petrefication, and stun breath at you. All of your equipment is torn apart! Descriptions are fairly random, with a few exceptions. The idea is that you _cannot_ tell what an item is based on the description in your last game. ADOM never makes things easy for you. |
