TB has just put these up. I think I'll still post here more though - interface is much nicer, especially for the sort of detailed discussion we tend to have here.

It seems work much faster but there's also fewer posts and categories seems strange, no spoil section , one section dedicated only to stupid death. Ha well my 1 cents! :-)

I also tried those forums. They do seem to be
very fast loading, and I'll bet the search feature
will work very quickly. Well, once there is enough
stuff posted there to search through anyway.

On the other hand, I feel a bit uncomfortable to
post some things there. It seems as though a
large percentage of the posters there are
relatively new players. The lack of a spoiler
section doesn't bother me, one can just use the
'SPOILER SPACE' tactic.

.

There was one thread there however, asking 'what
is your highest score'. Most of the answering
posts were quite low scores, in the 10,000 -
100,000 range. I felt a bit wierd about posting
mine, so I just didn't. Many of the posters there
expressed doubts about many of the highscores in
the HoF.

The interface there doesn't seem as ADOM-like as
this one does. It's predominantly colored white
as opposed to the superior black of this site.

I do prefer the style here, and even the graphical navigation etc here seems more finely tuned. Though this place is often quite slow it's still better than the generic vBulletin.

You are right about people there being inexperienced, and some of them fairly ignorant. But there's healthy JADE discussion, which is quite nice, and TB himself does take part in some of it. ADOM discussion is much better here though, especially since most of us know all the advanced tactics and tricks. People know what I mean what I talk about sickness-scumming with herbs, or ID-hopping, or whatever other terms we've come up with for abusing ADOM. And people take more interest in challenge games here :P

Speaking of challenge games, that was a good one
about the old 0.2.0 version. It seems the oldest
versions were worse meat grinders than CRAWL.

The look is a minor point for me but I don't like black forums, with often dark gray text on black background... just for the look. Not something I understand. :-) Thankfully this forum isn't like that, it is white text on brown background not too dark, ok for me even if it can't compete with black on white.

First steps on adom wasn't cool because of that, I played rogue and moria on a version with black text on white background. But with some colors that could be different. Custom skins would be cool in fact.

I think it's a good forum with some interesting topics and of course good JADE discussion. I'm still unskilled enough that I can learn things from a forum like that. Plus I can feel like a bad-ass posting my top score of 150,000 or so and being ahead of half of my fellow posters :)

I like it here better because the community seems more close-knit and nearly all of you are experts with the game, but I'll hang out there too.

TB has to figure out how to shut down the spammers tho. And another problem I have is that I can't view his site through my fascist employers firewall. :(

Spammers have been shut down there, I believe. He added a question to the registration: "What are the initials of Andor Drakon, Lord of Corruption?" Haven't seen any spam posts since.

Firewall thing sounds like a nuisance. You could download TOR (the onion ring) to get through it, but it would be painfully slow.

The first letters of the name of a guy named Andor Drakon are A and D.
That doesn't take long for a 5 year old child to figure out ;P

Damit you are right that's AD... &@!#!!°°&!

Mmmm notAD so AD... that's perhaps the "logic" for this game, now I understand why it seems so obscure to me. :-p

there is sort of video sample of JADE by TB. I must admit i am no longer so sure about JADE being unfinished forever.

p.s. if MR stands for magic resistance i don't like it.

You have a level 21 beastfighter, so for a new player you're pretty damn good.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.

I know this old, but I am responding at any rate.

"Many of the posters there

I think they are justified in doing so. Not that the score have been lied about but the means in achieving them is questionable.

Creating a wish engine could be considered an exploit for achieving high score.

Some might even consider the racing though the game to generate a high score an exploit. I mean I look at some of these wins and they didn't do anything, they didn't even face the final fight at the bottom of CoC. They just ran in there as quickly as they could and ran out to generate a high score.

One of the highest scores says it used overflow piety abuse.

Which is all fine if that is what you want to do. Play the game however you want. It is a game to have fun with. I just think the point system is may be broken and exploitable.

Also, I would like to point out that pure spell casters have a way easier time with the game then pure melees. One of the reasons I don't play gray elf wizards, much any more, is because they are over-powered. But the extra struggle that the melee has to endure is not reflected in the score.

Some of us specifically like doing speedruns - the challenge being to win in as few game turns as possible. This encourages a very scummy style, and gives a ludicrous bonus to points to. In certain respects not to be admired, but I must say it is extremely fun and challenging.
