Is there a good use for the Earthquake spell/wands? The only practical uses I can think of are draining PP for training mana, and maybe generating rocks for hurthlings to use. (Though any hurthling that can cast earthquake probably doesn't need to throw many rocks.) Redundancy is good. And also good. |

Well, that seems to be about it for me, too. It might also be useful to make ways through a dungeon if you have no other way of digging. You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?" Which direction? (123456789) 4 Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated. You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd! |

I once played many elementalists, who get the spell automatically. If I started a game by clearing part of the BUGWIL, I would get the spell in <1000 turns. So I tried and tried to find a use for it. The main effect that I noticed, was an increased chance of game crashes. I found no really beneficial uses for it though. Each rock will sell for 1 gold piece at the black market, so casting earthquake in PC:1, and selling all of the rocks to barnabus, yields a few thousand gp for the early game, but there are other ways of doing that. Gathering hundreds of rocks, setting tactics to coward, and sniping at the old barbarian/ants can sometimes yield nearly a dozen missile skill levels in 'thrown rocks'. Again though, there are other ways of getting rocks. The falling rocks do deal some damage to the monsters of the level, (if memory serves), so if it weren't for the game crashes, it could be useful. As things are though, I never use that spell, if I am unlucky enough to get it. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |
