All that Adom reading here made me try out one of your suggestions: a gnomish bestfighter. Pretty good until now (that is still alive, about to enter the animated forest - i dont do that too often.)

i don't have any significant treasure, and thought about wishing for some.. but what?
I don't want 7lb, as I'll die before corruption affects me anyway. Same goes for that amulet for khelavaster. I want something, i find cool now. But weapons are not a good choice for a beastfighter.

I do not have find weakness, perhaps that would be a good choice? or some i don't know what armor? an amulet of karate kid?

any suggestions?

Huh? "I'll die anyway"? I often feel that way too, but I don't play my games according to that premise...

Anyways, if you really don't want the AoLS (you don't need seven leagues that badly because of your class power), which I'd wish for, Find Weakness is almost a must have for a beastfighter. so definitely go with that.

Yes, actually, I never won the game. My farthest ventures were until that banshee.

Until the, corruption is minor. The Find Weakness went well, got it to 91 up to now, reached lvl17 and I am still alive. I already met Khelavaster(dead) and no go to kill Nonnak.

Bad problem: A Fire Vortex wasted
my herb sources. Are there other ones guaranteed not int the big room?

No, sadly. If you have lots of holy water, you can use that to create workable patches (You should have 10 potions at the very least - 15 is safer). Better pacify the big room before you try that.

It needs to be the big room since you probably don't have Gardening.

Yes, no gardening. You men dripping holy water onto the floor will make flowers grow?

Well, to make things worse, I touch my stack of stomafilia with this crappy poison hands corruption. Now after finally defeating that old banshee creature, I think, I reached a new limit, that I have to explore first with some dying chars, this one will die soon.
That always comes with that feeling of excitemt ;) Already monsters are starting to hurt badly. Just met a stone giant lord, that I got rid of with that fireball wand a prayer... it was close.

Then, luckily, I have to turn back now, because I encountered a stair with a wall of fire on D28 or 29, that I cannot pass. Maybe, you had another hint, how to go on?

I planned to go back to the dwarfs to feel save a bit, identify and sell all that mighty stuff I have there, but then I've got to face that greater deamon I flew from on the other level. He will eat up all my precious stats.

I thougt, that maybe I should better write in spoiler tags...

<Spoiler> I found that water elemental Orb!!!

The fight with the snake cost me almost everything (pickaxe, all my wands, and *sniff* my 11 blessed potions of extra healing are no blessed potions of poison, after forgetting those damn gloves.

Ooops. A good idea of you to try those spoiler tags, but apparently you didn't quite land the stunt :)

Yeah, apparently holy water has some weird mutating effects that make plants grow in record time. Pretty creepy actually. It has a mediocre chance of success, however - about 33% according to the guidebook.

Spoiler
The wall of fire will only be passable if you have the Orb of Elemental Fire. You've certainly met Khelavaster, so you should know about it.

If you don't want to face the greater daemon in melee, you can always sacrifice him. Just lure him on top of the Dwarftown altar and hit "O".

Jeez, you had that much trouble with the Snake from Beyond? You need to re-think your strategy. Ever heard of poison and magic missiles?

Wish for a red or black dragon scale mail? Or ring of elemental mastery?

Or the Emperor Moloch? :D
You pick up the Wand of Do Nothing.
'z'...
Nothing happens.
't'...
The Wand of Do Nothing misses the kestral. Come on, it's a Wand of Do Nothing!

Didn't you hear him say he used all his wands? Also, that you could poison a poisonous animal is probably something not everyone would think of right off the bat.

Rings of elemental mastery? Immunity is nice, but not important enough for a wish on its own, and there are lots of very good rings that outshine the rings of elemental mastery. The dragon scale mails are excellent because of their combination of the immunity with a sturdy armor.

Triple resistance to everything is easy to achieve with the right artifacts and as good as an immunity.

Well, at first thanks Silfir for that hint, I really avoided that I went down all the stairs again, as I planned.

Spoiler
I thought, adomlike, that using that orb of water chaos to extinguish the fire wall was logical... but better not descend there again if possible.

I really tried to poison that snake, unintentionally, as my hands are poisoneous. It simply hit me back so hard, that I decided to no longer go on melee. I have 250HP, and a short beating from that snake took me down to 100. With the last charge of the last wand I had - a wand of cold - I killed that beast.[\SPOILER]

Well, I actually have such a nice red dragon armor. I found it after the fight. It's (-1, -4)[-1 +13], appeared to me as to many minus. Instead I use an elven chain mail [+1 +5] or that mummy wrapping. Right now, I am lvl 21. I am no so sure, if should go directly for that fire temple. I also could go to a cave full of steel golems in the south, or that gremlin cave. Neither of both I like very much. Then, there is this bug village, where I ceased to go because I never survived for long. But now, I already smashed some of those greater claw bugs on the way, and maybe I am up for it. I am short on holy water, herbs, good arrows that slay something, I really don't feel up for something too heavy.

Spoiler

ok, no, not that bugs... I did not know about the killer bugs. Well, cowardly I am still alive... and got the second corruption that makes me exhale sulfur...

Maybe I should go to that fire temple .. (never survived there for long before)

I have the following things against fire:
2 fireproof blankets, one blessed
that red-dragon scale mail
2 rings of fire resistance, 1 blessed.

Spoiler

BTW, I teleported the first time to that dwarven mystic, everyone is talking so much about. He says, I am ingenious. Now I have a potion of GA, and 2 viscious potions(?).

Now, I am going to slay that greater demon.. got some DEMON SLAYING ARROWS ;).

Does wearing that tremendous water orb corrupt? - I like that willpower bonus.

Spoiler
Wearing the orbs of chaos is safe, they only corrupt you when you use them. Don't be afraid to use the water orb for healing though if you're in a bad spot, as getting corrupted somewhat is a whole lot better than dying!

If you haven't already, go get the quest to kill Griff and grab the elemental gauntlets from the dwarven graveyard. The artifact gauntlets will protect your rings in the ToEF from burning, and they give fire resistance. They also halve the corruption you get from using the chaos orbs, so the water orb becomes a bit better source of healing, only giving you 0.3 corruptions per use instead of 0.6. I'd wear the red dragon mail for the ToEF and probably also otherwise, but your other body armours are also fireproof so you can wear them in the tower too if you really want to.

If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

Spoiler
A red dragon scale mail is infinitely preferable to getting your fire resistance from rings of fire resistance. There are so many other rings that have beneficial effects it's not even funny. Don't worry about the penalties of the mail - they are more than made up for by the enormous PV.

I made it! I am proud to present my best character ever.

Spoiler
I killed that ancient chaos wyrm. Ok, not in the first run, I had to run away several times (I have excellent speed of >130) and leave that tower to heal, and I wouldn't have managed it without finding a wand shop in that cave full of teleportion traps ...and the hint of throwing a potion of blindness found on this forum. After emptying several wands through those fire demons, trying to hit the wyrm, it started to shoot at me, and hit HARD. Then I threw that potion of blindness and killed it with melee on berserk.

I really got a lot of corrupting hits doing so, but found a scroll of chaos resistance and a potion of cure corruption somewhere (don't know where, they appeared upon identifying - perhaps from that wyrm?). Now I got rid of all my corruptions! Also, I lost quite a couple of nice items, but never mind, I'am alive! I am really happy. That armor rocks. I wonder why I did not die until now. It's far about time. LVL24, my second best was lvl17. But well, I think my two life savers on this one are: Magic Map, and my extreme speed. I can cowardly outrun anything. Also I can't teleport apart from a wand, but I have tp control - sometimes nice.

Spoiler

and now, I will go to D29 through that fire wall...

No fear of dying anymore, after slaying 5 fire giant kings, 24 fire elementals and 15 fire demons with my bare hands.

I am eager to see what can stop me now!

This is a huge

Spoiler

Ok, Lvl27, 403Hp, 143 speed, and the whole day wasted ...

I went down to lvl D>30, then there was an idiot guardian. I went up again, asked thundarr, sent me to the mountains, and I found that high king ring. Then, i wanted to go back .. but what do i find? a casino. Idiot casino guy wouldn't let me pass... okay, I find no way of descending further, so up agian. I think, I could go to that bug temple now once and for all. At first everything seems nice, I was just about clearing it out, but the killer bugs soon got harder. Meanwhile, antennas grew on my head (which was very handy actually, because i was almost out of magic map) - monster detection tells me i am almost through. I've got to turn back always because the killer bugs are so nasty.. and then, suddenly, one of the greater claw bugs comes and takes away 300 hp in one turn. I couldn't believe it, and after killing some hundred of these, have no respect...

and died. $%&%+#!!

Upon reading my inventory, i realize now, that this nice dragon scale mail was down to ZERO PV!. I hate bugs! I will never go there again. Why hadn't I just slewn that casino guy to go on as planned? but ok, I just doubled my highscore with only one game from 127000 to 356000.

So, resuming, I need to know how to solve that casino problem. Secondly, if someone had a little tactical tips for that bug infested temple...

I learned another lesson: I was just about passing day 90, maybe saving khelavaster in the beginning would have been good to have more time then. I read about the potions of cure corruption he would give. That would definitely come handy.

Spoiler
Sorry to hear about your death, hope you'll do better next time. The killer bugs are about the most difficult enemies for a melee fighter in the game, so you were kind of brave to try them on.

About your armour: the bugs might have damaged it down to +0PV, BUT, their attacks always bypass PV anyway, so all that time fighting them your dragon scale mail didn't help you at all. If it still had -1DV, it handicapped you instead :) So next time, forget PV and go for maximum DV when fighting those things. And be a spellcaster/archer or something :P

If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

Spoiler
Khelavaster doesn't give you potions of cure corruption. He gives you scrolls of chaos resistance, which are twice as effective.

The Casino problem... I almost can't bear to write the words, because I know how you will feel after reading them... Suffice it to say that you can aim the wand of teleportation at people other than yourself... (Getting angry at yourself and groaning already?)

Hints on the bug temple? Don't attack the bugs in melee if ever possible. Use missiles, or with a spellcaster, bolt spells. Also important to remember is that PV doesn't work against them at all - their attacks simply punch through your armor. What you need is DV, as high as ever possible. They are good at damaging armor with their hits, so your dragon scale mail was possible the worst possible choice of body armor against them.

A level 27 character attempting the bug temple is, at the very least quite optimistic.

Don't despair. Covered with the bodies of unfortunate adventurers is the path to victory...

Spoiler

Actually, I killed quite many of those claw bugs - I cleared out 4 of those killer bug rooms. I think, if I had not made so many mistakes regarding DV and PV, it would have been possible - and maybe if there hadn't been the "stiff muscle" corruption (though i am not sure, if it affected anything. Still my speed value was around 140)

Thanks for the condolences and for the valuable tips . I really learned a lot in this one. And I am proud to have beaten that eternal flame tower barehanded - that was one of my most thrilling adom adventures. Also, that really brave melee fighter died rightfully as he lived.
Next time, I think I try a gnomish or dark elven monk. So I'd have more alternatives to melee. I had an excellent bow the last game, but I was ridicously bad at it. And I had some spellbooks, but when I read them, I gained maybe 25 memory points or so.
However, next time will have to wait. Let the dead be dead - at least for some time, to have the experience sink in. And to spend some days with more productivity :)

I wonder, if that character would give a good motive for the extremly gifted painter in the other thread: Gaja, the really ugly gnomish beastfighter lady, antennas on her head, totally wasted dragon scale mail and other armor, but extremely fierce.
