Has anyone ever noticed that sometimes during a game a very common item is nearly impossible to find.

Right now I'm playing a Gnomish Bard lvl27. I am somewhere past the casino and this guy has yet to find a girdle of carrying! Not that I need it, but I have never gone this far without one before. Also, this guy finds ludicrously few scrolls of identify. Just to top it all he has not found one (!) random artifact, and that includes visits to the dragon cave, darkforge and the casino. Nothing.

Other PC's have sometimes had a hard time finding water and one particular PC, after having his inventory and equipment cursed, failed to find a scroll of uncursing. After spending some time just doing normal stuff he finally went to the High King chambers and after spending a couple of hours looking for scroll of uncursing I got bored and quit (I think he is still somewhere in my saved games).

Yep. I've definitely noticed that. It also seems
to me that either a scroll of danger will be rare,
or a wand of monster creation will be, but seldom
both. (Although that may just be my imagination.)

I think the most annoying item to be rare, for
fighter types, is a wand of cold.

I guess the game randomizes a chance for items to be generated at the beginning of each game.

That's the basic law of ADOM.
The Random Number Generator is a b!+(h. If you need to kill a harpy, you'll get revenants, blink dogs, giant slugs and just about every rare or useful monster, except the one you want.
If you want water or scrolls of identify, monsters will leave SoCRs and PoGAs and you'll have no way of blessing them.

The RNG hates us ;P

And a feature of the human mind is that you tend to remember when things don't go your way, instead of when they do go your way. You think the RNG hates you because you forget all the times when you find what you want easily.

It feels better to blame a cold, heartless program for our troubles...

Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"

Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

Yeah, it's not my fault my characters keep dying.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

I have definitely noticed that before. Especially right now as i speak i am a level 30 dark elf barbarian who just cleared the Earth Temple and i have found NOT ONE scroll of uncursing. This is extremely irritating lol. In a recent game a wizard had a very hard time finding potions of water. Also, gut, this barbarian i am currently playing has found 6 wands of cold so far...i found that rather surprising.
