Finally got a priest with some chops...PV of 50 and DV of 18ish...most things can't hit him and if they do they are slow enough to damage him that a cure crit will fix it. He has a cloak of invisibility. What do you think? Where the cloak and brave the forest or DH? He has farsight, which would be good in the forest. Is it possible to clear the forest? Or do the trees always come back? I'm guessing it's best to go invisible, cast farsight, and walk through the forest...Any benefit for going through DH? |

I can safely say that the route through the forest should be very safe with invisibility, that kind of armor, and some patience. Just pay attention not to hit anybody. There are no advantages of going through the Dwarven Halls except that it is quicker and less boring. On the other hand, it's also more exciting and your journey may end there quicker than you'd like. Granted, you can find loot there, but most of the loot is inside monsters, and monsters are what you're afraid of in the Dwarven Halls. You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?" Which direction? (123456789) 4 Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated. You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd! |

I'd definitely say go for the animated forest wearing two shields. Doesn't take too long with invisibility. If you have teleport it's even easier. Try not to use fire spells at any point. I usually take a peek into the dwarven halls, but it's not well-advised. The chances of running into a balor or the like on DH2 are just too high. Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

I agree, many times I have encountered some nasty monster which sees invisible in DH2. Once it was an ancient karmic dragon and I had no way to dispatch it. I would say animated forest is a piece of cake with a cloak of invisibility. All you need is some patience. |

karmics in general do not see invisible. If you go to DH without pot of invisibility and means to dig... A root is a flower that disdains fame. Kahlil Gibran(1883-1931) |

I always go through the DH. With any character. Trick is to stop up when you see new monsters, and be ready to turn around if you must. Mabye 1 in 10 monsters are dangerous, so you might never meet one, or you can outrun it. (Remember a cowardly and severely wounded PC moves FAST). AFTER passing DH, I'll think about whether to go back up or "loop around" in the forest. Have had great success with this tactic. I generally do it as soon as I can, which will typically be PC level 10 or so. Not much gear needed, just be smart. And did you mean 50 PV? As in fifty? That is end-game PV, that is. You could spend time, slaying stuff in the DH with such gear. Or just move on and end the game. |

I always go through the DH as well. By that point in the game you should have teleport control and a wand of teleportation. When I first started I would normally go through the Forest just because I didn't know all the ways to escape from dangerous monsters, but now I don't feel threatened at all when I'm in the DH. Also when I first started playing I didn't really bother with Herbs so my characters were at a serious risk of being killed before they could escape. Morgia roots make a huge difference.
