I am trying to run adom 1.1.1 on vistas. The onlyproblem is getting the game to go full screen. I have actually seen this problem on every version of windows after ME. Does anyone know how to solve this?

The DOS version of ADOM doesn't run in fullscreen on Vista. Believe me, I tried. Vista doesn't have the driver required anymore. They put in shitty 3D windows nobody uses or cares about past three seconds of novelty, and they took out the fullscreen graphics driver for MS-DOS. There's talk about "moving on" and "progress", but they won't ever be able to justify this to me with their 10 GB of pure software bloat.

winbeta has never been fullscreen for me - I think it isn't capable. If you manage to get it to work, tell me by any means - it'd bring back much of the joy of ADOM for me.

Maybe ADOM Sage will work?

Well to be fair having to retain full legacy support for DOS software has been holding windows back a bit, lots of weird quirks and limitations, so I can understand them finaly dropping most of it.

Sucks for us who like "retro" games, but there are several deacent 3. party DOS emulators and virtual manchines and such that can be used DOS box for example.

My laptop is barely ten months old and never ran anything but Vista. I'd still prefer Vista over ME though...

@ Jan Erik: I get that, yeah. I still don't see why they couldn't put fullscreen in cmd.exe...

I try to avoid having to run games through DOSbox. Somehow, other people are much better at fiddling with its settings than I am.

I think the very fact that i will have trouble running this one game on full screen is preventing me from upgrading my entire CPU system, i am a nerd.

> The DOS version of ADOM doesn't run in fullscreen on Vista. Believe me

Oh, for shame on you Silfir!

: )

I've just now upgraded to vista myself (thanks a heap
Darren : ) ), so bear with me on this if I screw up
something.

Install DosBox to it's default location, then create a
shortcut to dosbox.exe. Edit the properties of the shortcut,
and set the 'target' field in the following way:

"C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72\dosbox.exe" -conf "C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72\dosbox.conf" "c:/windows/mclips/adom111/adom.exe"

That is assuming you have your dos version of ADOM 1.1.1
in the path entitled c:\windows\mclips\adom111, which by
all means you shouldn't : ) This will allow you to
automatically launch ADOM (via DosBox) with a simple icon
double-click. Next, just press ALT+ENTER to enter full-
screen mode. This doesn't fix the attrocious font problem,
but that will have to wait until I have some more time.
For now, I don't even remember the name of the proper font : )

EDIT: Upon reflection, it would probably be
worthwhile to just edit the dosbox.conf file to
change fullscreen=false to =true.

EDIT 2: ADOM sage, here I come : )

You finally got a new computer, eh? Personally I prefer XP to Vista, for compatibility reasons amongst many others. Of course if you have a better computer now you should probably make good use of ADOM Sage :P

I have a lot of time put into DOS box, even with XP there were some things that only worked with DOS box or just worked better with it. I have never dealth with changing .conf files. I just use it like DOS.

So I got Vista and I use DOS box just fine. The only thing is my right shift key wont work in it. Not sure if this is ADOM or DOS box but it makes me crazy. Anyone know what I can do here? Just makes me crazy. I can work around it, but it would be nice if I could do it without that.
Playing for 10 years, got nothing to show for it.

I've never before even heard of that. It would
almost have to be something related to dosbox
though, because if it were an ADOM issue, I
prolly would have heard of it by now.

Hatefulgravey :

heres a quick test. open dosbox, try using the right shift key just for capitalization or something. if it works, adom isnt completely compatible which i doubt is the case. if it doesnt work still, then its dosbox, but only for you :P

You can just use the adom windows version and enlarge the font to whatever size you want with this:

http://www.geocities.com/adombot/tweakfont.zip

Just run the tweakfont.exe, select your adom .exe-file and choose a font.
