Define scumming. EDIT: Just noticed you're talking about savescumming. I've won nine times without savescumming, and I am not the best player in this forum. I'd wager it is very much possible. This is an interesting topic nonetheless, as there are other ways to "scum" in the game, and the question whether you can win the game witout these method is something to be discussed. Maybe there is something wrong with your strategy. You play in a risky way, and you don't see the (relatively) safe ways which allow you to have a chance of winning. Look for YAVPs which contain "without even stopping to save him/herself", those cannot be savescummed. Of course you could say they were cheated in some other way, for example by changing this line, these posts have no savefile in their defense :) Maybe there is a complete video which shows winning ADOM from beginning to end? OK this can be cheated too. Or... there are servers which allow you to play Dungeon Crawl and watch how others play it. There was recently a player who won Crawl five (or so) times in a row, and it is harder to win Crawl than to win ADOM. |

Won four times, never won with savescumming (didn't bother after geting to D:49 with a savescummed orc barbarian). Drakeling Healer, Gnome Beastfighter, two Dark Elf Barbarians. I completly understand his reasoning. Therefore I hereby declare frontflips to be impossible to do. Have you ever TRIED to do that? Actually I can do flips and was state champion in gymnastics at one point. Thing is with this game there are so many variables, so many chances, so many risks, so many monsters that are more powerful then the player, so many dice rolls against you (monsters always seem to get at least 5 hits to my 1-2) that it simply can't be done. I've got high level characters without scumming but nothing that can beat any of the big boys (titans, greater titans etc). And when I hear of people totally obliterating these things with melee it makes me laugh because I know that those people scummed it up. |

To get anywhere luck has to be on your side from start to finish and you have to be rolling high marks EVERY shot. You have better chances of winning the lottery. |

Well I tried and I can't do it, so it's up to luck - you can break your bones, tendons, permanently injure you muscles, damage your brain. You have better chances at winning a lottery then acctually being fit enough and prepared to do a frontflip. P.S. Name a monster more powerfull then a good, lucky char, other then a high level Ki-Rin or Emperor Lich. Anything can be taken in melee with the right set of skills. A pessimist sees a dark tunnel. Is this just the stupidest thread ever? How can you say you know the mindset of all the people who have played adom? I've completed the game around 14 times in my ten years of playing the game. Never save scummed. I've created some damn masterful characters that I have been quite proud of. Titans, greater molochs, the emperor moloch, greater balors - nothing is too hard to kill in combat if you're prepared. Emperor Liches fall if you know the right tactics (and a lot more easily if you're a high level wizard :P). If you can't complete the game then thats one thing......claiming that all those hard working people who have completed it scummed the entire thing is another. Grow up, face the facts that it can...and has been done hundreds of times, and get over it. And Maelstrom......I did a front flip once. It was over the front of my bike. I don't remember much after that.....I woke up in hospital. So I'll agree with you, they're impossible to do right :D Ladies and Gentleman, take my advice. Pull down your pants, and slide on the ice. |

(I know many other classes can easily take out high level creatures, but I think archers might be the best class against single monsters). I don't remember ever having any problems with titans and greater titans. Maybe you have "cursed" and "doomed" intrinsics instead of "lucky", "fate smile" and "increased luck"? |

Gray arrows are mithril, adamantium, or eternium, but not arrows of slaying. And to find arrows and quarrels of slaying, just pick up all unidentified ones!
