rings and amulets for an archer - I love speed speed speed speed. |

To be quite honest, I've never fought Filk, the emperor moloch or Keriax at all, so I can't give good suggestions for that, except the obvious (slaying ammo). As for MaLaKaI, I've fought him with a Barbarian once, and all I can say is use humanoid slaying ammo and don't go into melee. And that's all the more true for archers ;) That section in the end is pretty redundant anyway. The guidebook already gives good hints. I did list "eternium gear", didn't I? Eternium tower shields are quite a tempting early game wish, but good shields are available pretty quick. Immunity gear... I listed dragon scale mails, which provide an immunity and are pretty sturdy compared to the crowns, and don't consume a precious ring slot. I don't think immunities are that important, though; the Ring of the High Kings and the elemental gauntlets plus natural resistances from corpses (which one should get rather quickly) provide one with usually triple universal resistance (And enough resistance for the ToEF). There is no single true answer to "rings, amulets, bracers". Oftentimes you have to wear certain rings or amulets to get certain resistances or abilities. What vogonpoet said is very, very true, though. Though the amulet of speed doesn't give a very significant bonus and bracers and rings of regeneration, when available, are even better than their speed counterparts. And the best stuff EVAR for these equipment parts should be pretty obvious. You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?" Which direction? (123456789) 4 Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated. You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd! For Filk some sort of ball spell is most preferred. As an archer if you don't have a ball spell then a crystal of fire can come in very handy (wither used or thrown). Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

Good points, I agree. One thing I just remembered, I had a grey elven archer crowned with Suns Messenger. I may not remember correctly, but I seem to recall that a greater ID revealed it added 2d6 bonus damage, in addition to the +15. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks for writing your kickass review, inspired me to create a gnomish archer, and she's having a great run of luck so far, lvl 11 and precrowned with Preserver in the VD! Don't forget unerring ammo. Works perfectly on Filk ;) You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! my wishing is always for 1. seven league boots/amulet of life saving(self explanatory) 2. food preservation if not born with it 2.1 alchemy, there is a small chance that your poga recipe is ultra healing and longevity(=ridiculously strong character) 3. scrolls of chaos resistance, if needed. usually aren't since there are plenty avaible 4. i usually want to make a strong melee char no matter what, so find weakness is good in adom there aren't really much that is worth wishing for. I've never used shields after the very beginning, since there are no good one handed weapons. eternium plate mails are obtained fairly easily after the midgame and after the darkforge you'll be wearing the crown of chaos anyway, why waste wishes for armor? sometimes i also wish for emperor moloch, for the 25 greater molochs if experience is neede(trolls) keriax is easily dispached with any kind of a character. Potion of blindness works for him chaos wyrm can be confused, with potion of confusion phase daggers/demon slaying weapons for emperor molch filk, if playing with mindcrafter one greater telekinetic blast is all that is needed(always hits, always kills) if not, then just whack him with sting+needle combination. by the way, if you are playing with mind crafter then the rule of thumb is, if it cannot be killed by mindless whacking, use mindcraft. gtb works very well for anything from greater balors to emperor moloch. EDIT: no chaos crown, yes crown of science [Edited 1 time, last edit on 11/19/2007 at 04:01 (GMT -5) by Jhonka] |

Are you talking about the crown of science, Jhonkas? You do know it dooms, right? And the crown of chaos dooms and curses and corrupts you... No thanks. Smithed up crown of regeneration >>>>>>> crown of science. No good one-handed weapons... It depends on your point of view, of course, but stuff like Emerald Bite or Executor qualifies as good one-handed weapons in my eyes. You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. I wouldn't spend a wish on crowns of regen though. Probably the best head gear around mind (not including the Iron Crown of Havlor), though other decent candidates when smithed up are crowns of fire/lightning and mental stability. Can Helms of Mental Stability be smithed? I thought they were Crystal? A pessimist sees a dark tunnel. An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel. A realist sees a train. And the train driver sees three idiots on the tracks. |

Ah goodness, you are indeed right. I remember a recent time I found a nice [+5, +1] {+3 Le} helm of mental stability and was disappointed when I found I couldn't smith it up better than my [+11, +9] crown of lightning and was thus faced with the terrible decision of choosing which stats and statuses I preferred best. Ah, how painful this game can be sometimes... Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

crown of sciense dooms and curses, which is kinda the point, right? Dooming/cursing does not affect backround corruption, but enemies get tougher hence giving better stuff and xp. Science has also a decent armor bonuses and the learning boost is nice. How many scrolls of peace does it take to make d35 non corrupting? |

Let me guess, you want to read books? You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! Dooming and cursing means more equipment damage, and a chance of insta-death any time you step into darkness. The stronger monsters can be good for xp, but not always. Crossing the wilderness also becomes a pain as there's some low level encounter every 2 steps. The crown can be handy for reading books, but only if you've got the Remove Curse spell so you can take it on and off any time you want. Darren - are you saying that dooming or cursing has no effect on your ability to learn spells? Also a warning to those who want to wear the Crown of Science - Dooming and cursing increases how often you get hit, how hard you get hit, and how many criticals opponents score. This can be deadly when robbing shops, as, depending on your alignment, you can get cursed and or doomed the second the alarm gong is rung, and the shopkeeper scores six armor bypassing criticals. The one in the casino got me this way. Dooming and cursing also increase the chance of your own bolt spells being shrugged off. That's important if your trying to frost bolt the ACW while using CoS for fire imunity. His bolt/cofusion attacks will be much more effective while yours are much less. Dooming also seems to always kill my fireproof blanket. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |

Nightmare: If there's any risk of being unsuccessful at actually reading the book then the dooming from the crown isn't going to help. But if you have no trouble reading the book normally then the Le bonus will give you many many more spell points in spite of the dooming. This Le bonus is also handy when you know you're about to gain a level - it can give 2 or 3 extra skill increases. Still, CoS normally ends up as ratling fodder for me. The dooming is terrible in almost all situations. Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

contrary to common belief, i've always found acw second easiest to kill(big bosses, snake being the easiest)! All you need is a couple potions of invisibility and a potion of confusion. after the tunnel is made, just go close enough to the elementals suurrounding acw, so that hitting one will set the worm free. then after a being confused a couple of times you should make it rather easy to lure the worm to the tunnel. one potion of confusion will make him confused for a *long* period of time, so one should suffice. while confused in a tunnel, he'll have only 1/8 of chance to move your way, and won't cast any spells. mana temple is also quite easily cleared using the similar tactic; luring the boss to the trap tunnel. the moment boss moves, just run away and he'll follow even if he had moved just a tile or two and being surrounded by hordes of enemies. this tactic makes mana temple third easiest to clear. |

Yulgash; most annoying-agree!! After getting all the great stuff stolen, from outside the cavern of lightning bolts by a quickling, that runs to the damn cavern, is just something that makes me angry. The other thing is having the fore mentioned summoner summoning a pack of doppleganger kings/king liches/anything as annoying, is *annoying*! |
