A wizard guide? Excellent! That one's probably going to give birth to a new generation of ADOM winners, considering how easy it is to win after you've got off the ground with them, which your guide will help people do (presumably)!

You can post it in a forum thread and send a copy to me that I can publish (with approprate crediting, of course).

The monster issue... If Soirana is right, this means training your shield skill training is probably best done in some cavernous levels, where a wide variety of monsters are available. This will hopefully also make the whole endeavour a bit less tedious ;)
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"

Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

It's rare to get to 2k kills on any sort of monster. Personally I always train with spider factories in the Big Room or the high kings cavernous levels. Get surrounded, wear lots of PV-enhancing gear and two good shields, go to aggressive or very agressive settings (or lower if you're getting hit too much) and keep tapping wait. After about 20-30 turns kill the monsters immediately surrounding you (preferably with missiles or magic since you won't get any melee marks out of them) and repeat. You will gain numerous shield skill levels extremely quickly. A tarantula can give up to 32 marks - getting to shield level 10 would thus require just 82 tarantulas (though admittedly giant and large spiders give far les marks).
Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse."

J.:
As a fan of wizards, I usualy entered the
BUGWIL at exp. level 1. It gave fast level
up's and, in ADOM 100, DEX could go to 99.
My shield level was zero upon entering and
leaving.

The first shields I would find, would give
3-6 DV, this would yield no shield marks if
DEX was rediculously high. Upon finding
better shields, like 9-13 DV, I would begin
getting shield marks, but only against more
powerful monsters. I noticed that switching
tactics to very aggresive, thus lowering
non-shield DV helped a lot.

Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong!

Nah, my record is 5919 gremlin kills:)

Oops, there was a whole second page of posts. What I mean is, that monsters as a race don't stop giving weapon marks. Might be good for an RFE, though...
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.
