Aight, thank you. I will then not wear my gauntlets. Going for the bows, yes. Have 14 arrows and 3 longbows of accuracy, so hopefully they won't all burn. Hopefully I'll take my first farmer to the top. And by trying to get to my 10th victory anniversary, I will step it up one notch and start going for ultra-endings. No more boring normal endings, I want to meet the big fellas!

"WAKE UP!!!"
...huh? ..ow...
"Finally. You left me in that filthy cave for 3 days, just to go drinking with you 'friends'. Human slime!"
(...and I remember so little....cursed potions of booze, thy name is 'Gammel Dansk')
Well, you are refreshed, then? Let us go.

And we hurry off. I quickly move to discharge our promise to slay 1000 gremlins. We head down D:10 towards 16, through the Dwarven Halls again. On D:12 a random, stupid orc decides to donate a backup pair of seven league boots.Okay, thank you. Of course we take a little scenic tour of the levels. We also realize we have ventriloquism, and practise it a bit. Nothing can stand up to our axe, though. We arrive on D:16, and dig out a room in the NW corner. I also put in a tiny corridor leading to the room, it is easier to close it up if the door is not in a place where 3 gremlins can walk in it. I think I have all the keys, I have a fluff ball, and a wand of trap creation. Fortunately there is a teleport trap on the level, so I can count where the water traps will be (I move the cursor with (l)ook command, you can freely go NE or SW. Then go 1mod(12) E. (1, 13, 25, 37). I like to set 2-3 traps in the room to keep 'em coming. And they do. It goes somewhat slowly because I want to train the ventriloquism (not cuz I actually need it, but want to show it in action later).

I decide to stop at 1000 gremlin kills no matter what, and then move on down the D.

Time passes...

Notable loot from this session is 1 PoGA, 1 PoDex, 2 PoCC, 1 PoEducation, 1 PoExchange, which then provides me with 2 rings of invisibility.
No good rings, though. So I decide that we move on and face the dangers alone. Klawina is, for once, in total agreement.

Remember the Potion of Education we pickpocketed? Well, it gave her Courage...
"Human, these foes are far below us. We must seek more worthy fights."
You might be right. However you can never become a goddess if you move further now...
"Godess Schmodess. You try my patience. I'm not killing one more of these gremlins."

Well she actually had to kill a few more, as we work our way to the door, clear it of gremlins and items, then close it. 7 times, then it stays shut for a round. Then with a click of our small key, the gremlins are successfully neutralized. We could have battled our way inside and disarmed the water traps as well, but this way leaves the room open to be used later. Not that we will use it, of course.

"Step aside, old geezer, I need to use this stairwell"
*First let me warn you about chaos. ...*
Fortunately Khelevaster has his eyes closed in pain, and is therefore spared the sight of his last warning totally failing to reach the Troll, as she sits down to a better dinner of cooked lizards. But finally he expires, and we move down...

D:17
Graveyard. We bravely charge into the undead masses, without any losses. 4 graves are dug up, each yielding a master lich and little else of interest. We then make level 18, put skills into literacy and get the potent aura talent (with an eye on the book-casting talents)

D:18
Nothing here.

D:19
Water temple level. We decide to tackle it immediately, but first clear out a mixed tension room. Midway through temple we become *very thin and nimble*....for a Troll. +6 DV without any other effect, a very good corruption. We run around the outer wall of the temple while launching rocks at the snake, then finish it up in melee. Corpse is cooked, pickled, and taken along.

D:20
Buzzing sounds!
"So what"
We hit a grey j, and become paralyzed. We forgot to put on the free action amulet after swimming. So we nearly die, but luckily wake up in time to wear it, and kill the stone ooze. We find the ancient scythe on the ground next to the beehive.

D:21.
Buzzing sounds!
"Go away!"
Hive is again kicked and emtied.

D:22
Forge on the level.

D:23
Banshee level. I first shove some beewax into the Trolls ears then we hunt for corpses
"Good idea, human, now I cannot hear you cowardly whining all the time".
Banshee is dealt with, and we note a lawful altar here.

D:24
"After all these levels, suddenly life is exciting again!"
Yes, a vault will be good for us now. Even this undead one...nothing especially good appears though.

D:28
"More excitement!"
Yes lets hope this one is better. Hm, a golem vault...luckily they are somehow still humanoid. Unluckily the loot is very disappointing.
We take the upstairs to

D:27
Forge. Also a mud-bath refreshens our Trollie's appearance a bit. Upstair -blocked by a searing wall of flames. After trying 8 times to ascend...
"Well, don't just stand there, help me out!"
You know the idiom 'fight fire with fire'?
"Of course not."
Well, I think that if we collect an orb of fire, it should enable us to pass this way.
"Well let us get that, then. No use staing around here"
Oh, allright then, you know best, I suppose.

With that we head up to dwarftown. Again taking a stroll around DH:2 and 1, again without meeting anything nice. We get unholy aura corruption, so immediately drink a potion of cure corruption to clear it. We don't want that yet. 8 potions of healing are then blessed and drunk, for +3 max hp increase. We consume our stack of giant corpses for a total of +2 ST. And we pay Garth 100000 to increase our learning, while we were sick and starving. We also notice a scroll of education - and suddenly we know a little about music. I guess as a Troll she is mostly into Rock and Metal music. We also smith a bit, we found some adamantium boots and an tower eternium shield. Hammer time!
Boots: [0,+3] -> [+6,+9]
Tower shield: [+13,+4] -> [+20,+6] (didn't expect this, really)

Then, the bells toll. It is time. Into the wild, and then the tower of excruciating pain.

TF: 1
The offending Fire Giant King who chased us away last time is found and executed. Other than that there is nothing else on this already-cleared level.

TF: 2
A fire grue makes us level 19. Then we slay a roomful of regular liches, for some exp.
"Actually I slew them for fun"

TF: 3
Nothing much, but we do find 2 fire giant corpses.

TF: 4
The big one. We explore the level, then dig in a zig-zag corridor towards the temple. And we start out by clearing out all the servants. Mostly for the experience. Then, a bit suddenly, a giant purple Wyrm has spotted us. Klawina makes a strategic retreat into the corridor from whence she came. We are hungry, so we eat while a fire demon is in the way. It then is killed, and we are face-to-face with the Wyrm. Go to coward tactic, then dip our axe into a potion of poison. Wyrm attacks in melee, 3 misses. But now we need open ourselves to attack. We are wearing our best equipment, never mind the possible Fire-destruction that can happen through our ring of Ice. This is the serious fight. We hit, and miss, and take 3 incoming attacks. However one miss and two are blocked. Mabye my shield and -skill is up to the task? Fight continues, and even though I miss a lot, the Wyrm does too. One hit fails to deal damage, but I know how much a crit can hurt. First hit of Klawina that actually connects takes the Wyrm to medium wounds. Then we hit again, and it is seriously wounded and panics. And THAT means that energy bolts will be unleashed. First is dodged, luckily. We counterattack - miss. Another energy blast - misses us. Our luck cannot hold...but it can. The Wyrm streches forward too far...our axe leaps up towards its exposed neck...and then with a mighty stroke severs scale, skin, muscle and spine. Its head hits the floor and rolls up against the wall. The carcass that once was the most-feared of Wyrms in the known world takes two faltering steps, its wings flailing madly, then crashes into ruin on the blood-soaked floor. Victory is ours!

The Troll Klawina thus cleared chaos from the evil Fire tower, and gained much fame. However, little did she know that only a short while later, she would...
"CUT that out. You do not know what is gonna happen, human. I'll show you"
Just building dramatic tension here. What happened to the rest of the monsters in the temple?
"What monsters? I had to destroy some while looking for treasure - were those guys actually guarding something?"
Hm. Well, good to see you got your level 20, finally
"Yes. I still don't understand why you make me more literate and leave useful Troll-skills like healing and tactics and courage to improve themselves."
You are, in fact, as good as you can be in the way of the warrior. We can kill even more stuff if you master the way of the Magus.
"In your dreams. About this fire orb...you said it can take us past the fiery stairway. So that means more caves to explore, and monsters to ...liberate. I shall go there."

I would of course have suggested building climbing skill, and doing a lot of different preparations, but then, if she wants to go, let her. We have one very deadly fight ahead of us (cat lord) but I also think we got a way to deal with him. So we head down...

D:26
"I don't get this counting of levels. I may be a Troll, but my learning is 23 now."
Well we went from 24 to 28, by a long stairwell, so now we got to go up 27-26-25, where we again can descend to 29. Just ...
...
I find her hacking through the remains of a steel zombie. We find herbs on the level, but suddenly hear a tiny bell. To me delight and Klawinas disgust it is a bookshop. We buy some books (can't afford all) and stack the rest in a corner.

D:25
Clicking of small feet!
"So?"
We find something of interest, a doppelganger king. We kill it with wands, Klawina might ask me why we just didn't splat it, but I find it too hard to discuss how it is a mirror of us, and therefore very very nasty. We have plenty of wands anyway. Also to her disgust she grows a bulging cranium.
"This is the worst corruption ever - I feel smart, I want to interact with creatures instead of splatting them"
Still this might leave us with enough smartness to read some more books.

D:29
Eternal guardian, who let us pass because we are wearing a very shiny ring.

D:30
Casino. I head to the gift shoppe first, and sort every item into the corner. I especially want humanoid slaying ammo (have none), a djinni ring, potions of youth/longevity.
We found
Artifacts: Skullcrusher & Black Tome. (need neither, skullcrusher is good but trained axe is better)
Items: Some backup wearable pieces, eternium halberd of slaughtering, 9 humanoid slaying quarrels (might be enough), wand of destruction, potion of education, potion of longevity, 3 potions of raw mana. In addition to some lesser stuff.

Now we have to put in some gambling time before we move on, and sadly, right then Klawina sits right down and refuses to move on unless she can rest for a little minute.

That means, that more will come tomorrow, that does!

[+20,+6] Shield? That's probably the best I've ever heard of. Congrats. And congrats on the fire orb, bet the troll is loving the extra strength.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

It's only 2 PV better than Protector though, and doesn't have resistances. And it weighs more. *nagnag*

Did I understand correctly that you fought the wyrm in coward melee? I go for berserking these opponents usually. Then again, anything that kills the wyrm is a good method.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

Wyrm was taken down in melee. I went to coward to dip the axe in poison. "But then we have to open ourselves to attack" meant that we went to very aggressive mode. (I generally don't use berserk, that takes away too much DV, I find. Except ranged combat of course.)

We gamble, as promised yesterday. About 5 minutes spent to make 980 000 gp, and we can buy our items. The club "Skullcrusher" is left behind, both because we have no need for it, and because it costs an additional 1.4 million gold. But make no mistake, if not for this particular axe we have, we should definately have taken and used it. 1-handed humanoid slayer. Say no more.
"Why the high prices? It only means we spend a few more minutes at the slots machines?"
Well I guess he needs to take so high prices because very few adventurers come by here. We are the first in hundred of years. Remember that fire wall and the eternal guardian? Been there for ages. Still, we move happily on...

D:31
Forge. Very useful. No, wait, we already have one. We find and one-hit-kill a moloch.
"Was he supposed to be tough?"
Focus now, certain death may be waiting a few levels down...
"And Cut that out!"

D:32
We see the shortcut back up to Darkforge, but still descend...

D:33
We hear sounds of a shop. Before we reach it, we are face-to-face with a Troll king. Will Klawina respect his authority? *THUNK* Obviously not. We stumble into a scroll shop. Nothing much of interest, though.

D:34
We feel an intense tension. I advise K that by digging straight south, she will find a shortcut to the stairs. So we do. We kill Bugs, and 3 battle bunnies. Then loop back around the level, finding (and dispatching) a moloch but little else.

D:35
Chaotic altar, which we convert to neutral right away, so we can get our holy water. Tension room of ghosts, which we shoot with rocks. Downstairs...

D:36
*This level seems to be removed from the rest of the world*
And on this level, Klawina indeed met her fate, a cruel, heartless fate which *THOCK*
"I said to cut it out. Next time I use the axe. I can take down anything, including fate"
We find the downstairs, but my talk about fate obviously made Klawina anxious to find hers. Her fate.
The cat lord is walking down a corridor towards us, and he is very hostile. I have killed 10 cave lion, 9 cave tigers and 8 wild cats. Not by intention, they just got in my way, I ran away from any wilderness encounters. But no use saying sorry now, his tightly clenched lips would seem to indicate. And let's face it, I and Klawina both are more dog-persons.

We back away from the cat lord, and notice that he is a FASTER walker than us even with 7lb on. So we must fight. He is two squares away, we fire a wand of webbing. He gets stuck, but immediately breaks free to attack us. Hmmm. Then a paralyzation wand. He shrugs it off, and hits us from (311) -> (235) and bleeding. We drink a pot of extra healing, then a pot of boost speed. We can now move a little distance away. 3 more zaps with wand of paralyzation yields no result. He also shrugs a ray of poison. We decide to walk upstairs, where teleporting is allowed. We back off, teleport away, and try to shoot him with humanoid slaying ammo. Very little success, one hit only, and slight wounds. We then stay in coward, and zap the wand of fireballs. 12 times, drinking healing potions whenever we lose over 100 hitpoints.
*Thunk*
"Ouch"
Down to 89 hirpoints. But extra healing, and we are up to 313 again, 2 more than before. We duel, but when the wand is empty the cat lord is only at medium wounds.
"Okay, now it's time for axe-work."
I have no other option. And we DO miss a lot, but finally land a hit which send the lord running away to heal up.
"Come back here...have at you"
We corner him in a room, and he tries to keep running, allowing us to land free hits on him. Or rather, free misses
"Stand still, you #¤%&% ..."
Finally we connect twice more, and the cat lord lies dead. Two levels of knowledge are added, and we finally have 100 literacy. We also get to pick the strong aura talent.

D:37
A cavernous level. We still explore, and slay our first diamond golem.

D:38
Normal. Lawful altar found. First ancient blue dragon found, and slain. Ogre emperor suddenly means we are level 23.

D:39
Clicking *yawn* sounds.

D:40
This level reeks of ozone
"...of what?"
You know, O3...er nevermind. We again should dig to find a hidden temple, like that guy Khelevaster told us...
"...who did?"
...ah, yes never mind that either.
We find another potion of education, and drink it...
"What does 'you suddenly know a little about alertness' mean?"
That you are a very lucky girl. Start digging now.

We make a niche in our corridor, where we stash everything, except water orb (fire orb is in tool slot). We wear artifacts and adamantium/eternium stuff. We also use our trusty ring of damage along with a ring of invisibility under our elemental gauntlets. (Invisibility in case of ghost summons). We break through Yulgash' ring of bodyguards, and open the inner sanctum. In addition to the aerial servants, there is a host of ancient white dragons. Still, we are resistant, lure out 10 creatures and slay them. Then we charge right in, catch the 'master' summoner in the act, and deliver him to the afterlife. We got his corpse out safely, along with the orb, of course.

D:41
"Excitement....ain't nothing but excitement"
Go carefully now, a level 41 vault is not the same as a level 5 one. We notice it is a giant vault, so Klawina shoves me to the back, then runs forth, a Trollish battle-cry on her lips. Needless to say, no Giants are left behind to tell the tale.

We see an altar on the level, and suddenly realize we haven't been crowned yet. No reason not to...We sac 100 000 gold, then pray. We feel a strain on our relationship with the god...hmm....we unequip the axe, sac 10 blessed stomofillia, very close, we pray...
"What have you done?"
Well just got you fire immunity. And the shirt there
"+8+4 shirt. Yes. I see. That is better than my +5+18 eternium shiny plate mail...how?"
...+2 learning, good for when we learn spells...
"You disgust me. Move ON!"

D:42
A Cold, dark level, where the walls seem to close in on us.
"Now what?"
Oh nothing, nothing. Just ready your other axe....the penetration one.
"!"
No, not that one. I mean the one that bypasses PV
"But this one slays humanoids and demons! And it has great dice! Surely that will serve us better?"
Actually, we will be fighting many things that are not humanoids, and bypassing PV will be a lot faster, even if the dice are a lot better. And against the stone grues (which are demons) it will be a coin-toss as to which is best. And with your great boni from ST and equipment and smithing, your p-axe will go through them like a hot knife through hot butter.

So said, and done. We clear out the level, and make a 2-square wide corridor into the temple. Whenever we meet burrowing monsters like grues and earth elementals we retreat, hit, retreat, hit, and sometimes if we brought many, take the downstairs. The stone beast is also fought downstairs, he never even hits us. We are wearing a ring of regeneration now, so no need to even use spenseweed.
I notice that our speed is high, and realize that this is the second "thin" corruption, the one that give +20 speed. I then decide to read a scroll of corruption resistance, so I will get more exp from the fight. I also get bloated to further reduce speed. Only 106 now.

And lo and behold, after clearing out the place we gain 2 levels. Level 25 now, and now we shall certainly win the game, because now we can make the all-mighty iron rations from corpses!
"Sarcasm again, I get it, human. One can never have too much food"

D:43
We did notice a *THUMB*ing sound when we were fighting earth elementals down here, so now we go hunting for a big, hulking creature. For glory, adventure, and high exp. It is a greater moloch, and we learn that we are not quite twice as fast as it is. Because it lands a little hit on us. 150 damage through our 72 PV. But with 442 max hp (wearing earth orb in tool slot now) we survive easily. But decide to be more cautions. We also decide that we should always hunt whenever we hear a *THUMB* ing sound, to keep interest (Klawinas) up.

D:44
Sounds of a shop. Potion shop! And we find herbs. How fortunate that we have the 18th class power, to pick only good herbs. No wait, we already have all herbs we need.
Potion shop has plenty of water, but little else of use. I buy it out anyway.
"So he sets up shop in D:44, and expects a customer base?"
Well I suppose he must be selling to greater chaos creatures. Merchants are merchants.

D:45
Cavernous. We retreat when faced with a shadow wyrm - because it is speculated that it has an ageing attack.

D:46
Find downstairs, and decide to head right down...

D:47
Wind howling through a forge. Yay, just what we needed. Not. Again find downstairs and descend...

D:48
"I'll be back"
Up again. Need a mana orb first...

D:47 take 2
No extra downstairs here.

D:46 take 2
Suddenly a balor appears out of nowhere!
Klawina regards our foe warily...
"This foe can be beyond you, my friend. It is an ancient creature of chaos, appearing as enormous humanoids cloaked in fiery shadow or smoke. They are feared opponents whose nature makes them resistant to many magics and who strike with awesome and relentless force. They are feared even among creatures of chaos, sometimes being offered tribute, and so are usually well equipped and prepared to destroy"
Yes, very impressive. However, one word stands out to me in what you just said...
"Which? 'and'?"
...er, no. HUMANOIDs. So wield that nice black axe some more, and we can see...

Thus is recorded the final fantasy of Klawina, Troll heroine. Story observed and written down by a potion merchant living deep in the caverns of chaos at the time.
The Balrog leapt forward, into the waiting swing of the heroine. The powerful swipe unfortunately went wide, deflected by the sword of the Balrog. Before the demon could strike back, however, Klawina gave up ground, backing away down the corridor. Frustrated, the Balrog leapt forward again, with bared fangs of fury uttering a hellish cry...only to face another wild swing from the diminutive, but staunch form of the Troll. However this fell with a ringing clash against the demons shield. And now, with lightning speed, the demon struck back. It took all of Klawinas skill to meet the advancing blade with her shield, and it took a well-crafted eternium shield to stand up to the impact. Mortal combat thus joined, Klawina struck back while the demon was still reeling with the force of his blunted attack. The blade of the axe hit the armored thigh of the Balrog, cutting sinews and blood vessels, releasing a spray of blood on the damp walls. The Balrog staggered back while uttering an inhuman scream, thus enabling Klawina to follow up with a vicious cut to the creatures torso. Cut, bleeding, desperate, the Highly-intelligent Balrog went into a berserk fury, and found hidden reserves of strength. Lifting his massive blade over his head, he suddenly let it fall with crushing, critical force. Klawina only had time to stare awestruck at her doom, before fate befell her. Her death was imminent...but not today. Half-dead and bleeding she had one chance to save her life. And one potion of extra healing was all the needed. The Balrog advanced carelessly, expecting to find only a foul-smelling Trollish smear on the dungeon floor, but then suddenly had a glimpse, one final vision of a jet-black form, then redness, then only excruciating pain engulfing the him as he fell into the sightless vortex of the unimaginable.

You okay, there?
"Why wouldn't I be? Tip top now. Just need a little R&R and I'll be back with out"

Enough excitement for today.

We are shaken, but not stirred. We move about the level, pick up corruptions, and find a stairwell down.

UL:1
Shop sounding off. We investigate...but find another figurine pet-shop. Leave off.

UL:2
Nothing much

UL:3
Sound of falling coins. Oooo. Or wait, mabye not needed as we have enough trouble carrying or 100K. We slay a roomful of fire demons. Get poson hands corruption. Decide to keep it, as we have a lot of thick gauntlets. This corruption can be used when fighting later, we quickly agree.
"Hey smartass"
Yes?
"How come, that if I should try to eat one out of 200 stomofillia herbs, they ALL turn cursed?"
Well that is because you just have to rummage through all of them, selecting the one you really want
"But I don't do that! You know I eat only the first and best I find"
I have seen her eat, unfortunately, and have to agree. I also mutter something about RNG having a word in the play here
"Another thing...Poison drips from my hands, right...so why does the axe poison foes?"
This one is easy...Because you handle your axe a lot between swings and between fights. Poison sticks to it and is transferred to the monsters you hit
"But why don't I get poisoned whenever I pick my nose then?"
Because you are immune to your own poison, of course
"Not so! Because when I handle a potion of something, it turns into poison...and if I drink this poison I get poisoned!"
Hey look, one of the Fire Demons was only pretending to be dead! He's trying to get away!
And so the days pass.

UL:4
A certain tension, but we instead take the downstairs. Corruption is rampant, and we are far from level 30.

UL:5
Klawina Shudders.
"Eh?"
Means there is a trap room. A room full of traps on the level. Not something to worry about. Also we hear a wind howling through a forge somewhere.
We then stumble into a room and hit a trap. Expected, of course. But Klawina takes another step into the room, and triggers a fireball trap. No damage, except to her ego.
I told you, this room is full of traps. And it doesn't lead anywhere, or contain anything. Lets leave. So we do.

UL:6
We see a pool here. But also downstairs, which we take.

MT
Strange energy, itchy skin ... we have arrived at the dreaded mana temple. I put on the ancient taco wrapping for death resist, just in case I'd forget later. And an amulet of light. I then dig in. And I manage to get sloppy, and forget to find one trap. Which knocks the ceiling down on me. And then crushes my two amulets of light. My only two.

And it crushes a torch. Not much else, and nothing I need.

Luckily I had 3 other torches.

Unluckily Klawina had no flint and steel.

So guess we fight in the dark. That is at least what Trolls like. I first disarm all traps in the immediate area, so I can get out later.

We open up the centrecourt...
First wave is neutralized easy. Then some more magebane eyes and annihilators. Then we move a little further in, and suddenly chaos wizards and the chaos archmage is after us. We retreat out in the doorway. First a chaos servant, but then Nuurag-Vaarn himself. We advance up to him, and start hitting on him. 2 misses, 2 hits. Then he casts darkness. We remain fighting in the dark, miss a lot, and lose some stats. Mostly appearance, to Klawinas horror. But we execute someone, and then gain two levels, so we can agree on that it must have been our foe.

We get the orb and the corpse, and head up from the UL-sidepath. We have not seen any Great Karmic Wyrms, and I think we will not either. Our quest is far too important to sidetrack from now. Corruptions are up to 'J' now.

UL:5
We hear a *THUMB* and decide to check it out. It is only a regualr titan, which is killed and cooked.

D:48
We dispose with all pleasantries. Kill the guards, drop in all orbs. We hear *THUMB* and decide to explore some more. Only a regular Titan.

D:49
We put Newton's third law to good use. Throwing a potion east propels us west. And then
*Ye hast found a use for this petty item! Yer ingenuity shall be rewarded*
"Did you hear? My ingenuity!"
For once, I am speechless. Not by this blatant claim, but by an actually useful useless gift.
"Sapphire amulet. Do we want it?"
Oh yes, we want it very much. On with it"

D:50
We have 2 scrolls of peace, and bless and read both. Remember that one you get if you kill Dax, and then talk to rebellious ratling? Well it can save your corrupted hide down here. (In our game, the rebel ratling was missing)

Klawina digs a little corridor to get to the centre room of the level, and then, screaming, assaults the main host of foes. If anyone had any doubt of how this will end, let Klawinas words assure you:
"I will only lay down my axe when the chaos gate is clear of evil, or if it should fall from my lifeless, corrupted fingers."

We take off the thick gauntlets, intending our chaotic poison to work on our enemies.

Will we triumph? Will we slay every last one of the monsters on the level? Or will the relatives of the D:46 Balor take a horrible revenge? Or will simply raw, undulated chaos from the nearby gate overwhelm our heroine? Will we forget to wear thick gloves and turn our food into rubbish and starve? Will we turn our life-saving potions of extra/ultra healing into poison, hastening our fall into the abyss?

Find out tomorrow.

If you dare.

Well, I think it would be for Klawina's best if you convinced her to kill those cowardly guys hiding in corridors, including demon-shaped levers, first ;)

First off, let me thank all who have followed this series and contributed. Your added concern made me go all the way and keep our unlikely heroine alive.

Secondly, it would seem that only playing one day at a time is often a good idea. Sometime between yesterday and today I got the sudden idea that I might be carrying a hoarde of stat potions. And indeed I was, I was of course waiting for the right time. I was waiting, on the bottom of the cavern of chaos, for the right time. Ouch. I also, belatedly, realize what crystals of light can be used for.

So first order of the day was to make a fighting retreat from the greater chaos servants we were fighting. I then carefully wore my thick gauntlets again, and had a little banquet of stat potions. 1 toughness, 1 strength, 2 dexterity, and 2 PoGA were consumed, all blessed. We then moved towards the hordes again...and then stop suddenly. We could get some friends here. I was sure I had some scrolls lying about? 5 blessed scrolls of familiar summoning gives: 4 greater earth elementals and 1 greater fire elemental. Muahaha. This should save some time.

The second rooms, which lead N and S off the main corridor contains chaos mutants. This part can easily enough be sealed off by making doors and then locking them. You need a fair bit of speed to do that, but then bypass those mutants. Klawina with her Mutantoid slaying axe and elemental horrors clear it out.

The next center room is filled with those potential early-game killers, WMoPCs. I lead my army into the room, and stand where I only have to hit on one at a time. Great fun. A little tidbit from the fight:
'Death, the greater earth elemental, shoots a huge rock at the writhing mass of primal chaos. War, the greater earth elemental, is hit by a huge rock. War, the greater earth elemental, glares at Death, the greater earth elemental, in a strange manner."

You can see I named them appropriately. The fire one was named Salamander.

Right after this fight with WMoPCs we spot an ordinary ring on the floor. ID - it IS a djinni summoning ring.

Now, find weakness should help me the most down here on D:50, but I take concentration anyway. You all know what find weakness does, anyway, and I want to show a final thing before I leave the chain.

Having written those lines, it is no worry at all that RNG called upon fate to destroy poor Klawina, just a few rounds later. The dual sins of hubris and 'the planning of the post-game-winning life' Hubris because I could make myself more powerful, but decided I wouldn't need it.

Next part is written story-like, game consideretions taken aside.

---

The haze air of the dungeon stood still. This...intruder..had penetrated the outer defenses, but unknowingly triggered ancient and devious alarms, awakening the most horrible of hosts, deep in the abyss. The danger to their existance was now very real - if the chaos gate should fall, they would be powerless to intervene in the world of Arcadia. The Thing that Should not Be stirred on his throne, and gave his Unmentionable command....

A few of the mangled chaotic masses had gathered in the Western expanse of the great hall, and Klawina set upon them aided by her trusty elementals.

'War, the greater earth elemental, shoots a huge rock at the writhing mass of primal chaos. Death, the greater earth elemental, is hit by a huge rock. War says, sarcastically, *sorry*'

Klawina opened a secret door to the north, and the lesser creatures in that hallway fled before her fury. But then her foes turned, and rallied in defense of the first lever. From the sinister central room there suddenly floated legions, spectral and wicked in dead, as ready to defend their charge as they were in life. Klawina, however, puts on her cloak of invisibility, and lets her minions handle the ghost lords. At the lever stands another forgotten relic of the ancient days: Balor. Mighty in magic and war, but not one to stand up to 1000 stone rocks hurtling through the air, thrown by experienced greater beings of the earth. The Balor is confused, and charges after the hunks of rock, not noticing till too late the pain coming from his unprotected flank as a wicked axe bites deep, deep in his unholy flesh.

The lever is thus cleared, but left intact. Klawina then moved to the southern lever, again avoiding pitched battle against the eldritch dread holding the center chamber. Again the minions of the second lever are sent shrieking into the abyss from whence they came. Then Klawina grasps the lever...and with a furious effort lifts it to upright position. Then, looping around to the northern one...repeats the process.

The Unmentionable felt a disturbance in the chaotic field, emanting from beyond his unholy throne. Then, with insight spurred on by desperation, he realized that the gate was closing! There was still time, to retreat back into the chaotic plane, to bide the time, to return later, more powerful...but there could be only one choice. Rather perish on the mortal plane than be a slave to the scorn of the TrUe MaSter. An angry scream resounded, terrifying and deafening anyone still to be found on the level.

Its echo was heard in the Dwarven Halls, and resounded through to the dwarven Elder in his puny village. He had recorded all that had passed so far, and with dead certainty knew what had just happened. The influence of chaos felt relieved, but it was only the still before a storm. "It has begun...the fate of the free world will depend on what happens next"

The demon-king bent his will towards finding the intruder. And then, he sensed a disturbance in the utter chaos surrounding him. An idea of something brighter, something hopeful. An idea carried by the intruder, this insolent Troll, about to suffer to full fury of demonic wrath. His winged minions went forth...

Klawina, normally unflustered, was perspirating with tension. Two of her minions started fighting between themselves, a fight triggered by one too many huge rock launched by the other. Another minion was lured into the central chamber by some unearthly summon, and quickly unmade. Salamander, the fire elemental has long ago panicked and retreated far to the East. So Klawina was left with only her trusted Pestilence and Death, Death being seriously hurt. Before the elemental could regenerate, the walls of the inner chamber burst, and a torrent of vile demons, undead and their masters came forth. A furious melee ensued...

The first foes to face the defenders were mere chaos servants, some with greater power. There was a chaos wizard who summoned pitiful but deadly masses of chaos into the fight. All in vain, the lesser servants died screaming, and then the chaos wizard suddenly found himself alone, facing a tall troll with a very black axe. But in rushing forward Klawina had left an opening behind her, and with a rush of stale air, there suddenly materialized a presence behind her. Azrocai was his name, and with a nasty grin he drew forth a mighty pole. Then, with a maniacal look in his eyes, he suddenly twisted on the pole, and with an evil *SNICKT* sound a cruel blade sprung from the staff, forming a complete scythe. Two other Balors appeared aside their lieutenant, similarly armed. The trio advanced menacingly upon the adventuress. Klawina stepped back from the breach in the wall she had tried to defend, and prepared for battle.

How to describe the rage in the mortal combat? Horrible battle-cries rang through the wall, some who had not been uttered except in the nether worlds. Terrible summons were called forth, and creatures materialized from thin air to do battle on the unresistable command of the demonic trio. Klawina was slammed back, and pushed against the wall, standing over the handle she knew she must defend with her every means, even her life. Her earth elementals withdrew into the wall, becoming part of the structure, but at least guarding her shapely behind.

The Balors had summoned a troop of Orcs to their side as standard-bearers, and a squadron of frost giants as shock-troops. However, Klawina foiled this design by rendering herself invisible. The Balors, seeing through this ruse, were unable to direct the attention of their less spiritual followers to the Trolls shimmering form.

Shrieking with frustration, the Balors pushed through their own throng, trampling an orc here, to engage the lone Troll themselves. However, faced with the armored and well-shielded form of the Troll, Azrocai was unable to wield his somewhat clumsy scythe in such tight quarters. Klawina, seeing her chance, leapt forward, past an unseeing Orc, and struck a mortal blow to the Demon. A rocky hand from the wall finished her grisly work. The lieutenant dead, his two bodyguards charged forward heedlessly, seeking revenge. One was sent reeling by a huge rock crushing in him, before his head was cleaved from his still-moving body. The other, trying to damage another earth elemental suddenly felt a white-hot stab of pain in his abdomen, and then had a few moments to watch his entrails gushing from his disembowelled body.

Klawina and her allies quickly laid low some Orcs, chaos servants and were preparing to celebrate their victory when there again was a shadow, and a gathering darkness. Another Balor...when will they learn? With corruption stopped, she was now certain of victory. But fate willed it otherwise...

For this was no ordinary Balor. Fistanarius, the Greater Balor, appeared cloaked in fire and shadow, and was titanic in stature, capable of dwarfing the giant kings. His true powers were unknkown. Many foes would die of fright as they stood before him, realizing what it was they faced. He was mighty in physical and magical strength, and had reigned in kingdoms of chaos for countless centuries. He surveyed the lone heroine, her allies, and then uttered a word of command. A powerful summoning to bring forth greater allies.

Klawina faced the demon-king for the first time, and realized that this was the end of all things. Chaos servants pouring through breeches in the wall, and now the ultimate foe before her. Gritting her teeth, she prepared for her final fight, when suddenly, behind the Greater Balor, there were familiar forms approaching. Elementals....Earth Elementals! Her allies were back at her side, and now the demon king was surrounded. She swung her axe through a hapless chaos servant with a glad battle-cry, and faced her foe with renewed strength. Her four Elementals of the apocalypse were back together, and would wreck a deadly retribution on this corruptor of all things good and neutral.

Then, halfway to her mortal foe, she stopped. And counted. Three new greater earth elementals were approaching. She could only remember 2 more, apart from the fiery one. She tried to command them, but they would not obey. They had no name. They were hostile.

And with sudden realization, she knew she had been trapped. These were summons of Fistanarius himself. And she was in the middle of the room, about to be the first mortal to stand up to the supreme evil.

Klawinas axe, mighty among lesser foes, was unable to scratch her foe. Thrice she swung, thrice her strike fell harmlessly against the enemy's armor, or shield, or was deflected by his war-scythe. Each time he hit back, sending her reeling, ever backwards. Only by her potions of life was she able to stay in the fight. She hit back and grazed his leg, but then was hit twice more, and had to retreat back to the lever. Also, she was further corrupted. Not long now, before the voices in her head would gain control, and lead her to a miserable existence as an utterly chaotic creature.

Fistanarius' elementals were pelting Klawina with stones, but luckily, they were not attuned to this material plane like Klawina's, and therefore still did little damage. But the Demon-King was unstoppable. But as the Demon moved next to the lever, he seemed to quaver at the sight of the insolent Troll's deed. Shaking with rage, he missed Klawina, and then, having opened his guard for once, he was suddenly sent reeling with shock as the jet-black axe rent a deep gash in is flesh. However, the demon king was not fated to die in this fight. The wound was not fatal, and it instead sent him into a raging madness, a desire to fight to the death. This surge of energy would enable him to land several blows upon the heroine, surely enough to cleave her soul from her lifeless body.

In his madness, Fistanarius attacked his foe several times with crushing force, and then heard the death-knell of an enemy.

*Victory for the chaotic side!* he chanted aloud.

But when the red haze in his eyes faded, he saw only a pile of rocks before him. He had destroyed one of Klawinas Earth elementals. Looking to one side, he could see Klawina, a look of utter horror at the strength just displayed, clutching a wand in her hands. Recognizing it for what it was, he quickly took a step towards her, but a blinding light oblitereted everything, Orcs, Walls, Servants, and the lever. As the dust settled, the form of the Troll disappeared into thin air. Moments later, a deafening sound confirmed his worst fears, the gate to the chaotic plane was forever closed.

Thus ends part one of the final battle.

Join us for tomorrow, for the ill-fated final fight, and "Final Thoughts" from the author.

*is Columbo* Hmm... let's see, you start a trollish farmer, then just by chance you manage to complete it, while it coincidentally is the DitL character... suspicious?
Jokes aside, good going, awaiting the last part.

Awesome stuff, Molach, especially constant teasing of Klawina's death ;) Hopefully she won't actually die.

-> Columbo Bunny / Battle Columbo ;) : I find no coincidence in winning the very first DitL. Recently on another ADOM forum I frequent, we ran something akin to a multiplayer ADOM - teams of four took turns in playing the same character for a limited number of game turns each time. Those teams included both veterans and people who never won ADOM before, and out of four teams who participated we got a win, an ultra win, an early death (freak accident with a humanoid and a chaos trap) and a quit. With a Dwarf Necromancer. Of course no savescumming or any other kind of cheating, not even using tactics like gremlin bomb or extensive smithing. This success should probably be attributed in part (maybe a very important part) to a very similar playing style you've got to use in DitLing - short runs once a day, taking notes and added carefulness due to the pressure not to dissapoint your readers/teammates :)

Sorry for a slight off-topic, but gotta do something waiting for Klawina - The Final Chapter.

Actually his comment was interesting. Didn't know there were any other active ADOM forums out there, and that type of game-play sounds interesting.

As Klawina zapped the wand of destruction the second time, thus shutting the chaos gate for indeterminable future, there again was the tremendous roar. Around her the were servants of chaos of all shape and size, but after the blast she was left alone, hurt and bleeding upon the floor. Her means of healing utterly spent, she had to rely on the herbs, so dilligently harvested all that time ago. Any minute she expected foul devils from the abyss to materialize around her, but as a little breathing time was gained, she was able to rub the healing weed on her sweaty, glistening body, and gradually her wounds faded, and because instead distant memories of untold pain. She started moving towards the exit, a tiny voice in her mind telling her that all was safe now, that arcadia could now look after itself, that she could take the stairs out of this hell-hole. But Klawina had made an oath. There was an evil presence in that hostile dungeon still, an ancient horror capable of forever wrecking the Balance of the world. And Klawina knew that the had to give her life to weaken the Demon-King, so that the free worlds could have time to prepare for his onslaught. No more teleportation could be possible, and no healing other than that of the weak herb. Klawina jutted her lower jaw, and set out with her rendezvous with Fate.

Fistanarius, however, was stunned and confused by the sudden loss of his link with his native plane. Unable to control his minions, he watched as his Three earth elementals glided through the walls, intent upon pursuing some unseen foe. His orcs and giants were weak and useless. He just stood still in the first lever room, brooding, his eyes fixed upon some point...in another, corrupted dimension.

Klawina saw the expressionless forms of the elementals form up before her. She felt like she could see the future, and knew that after joining combat the Thing would materialize behind her, trapping her, and having his way with her. Her life was now the least of her concerns, her soul was in dire peril. Still, she wielded her penetrating axe, and set about her foes with unceasing energy. The axe rendered their stony hides useless, and quickly she laid low one of her assailants. Then another. She expected at any time to feel that dreaded corrupting scourge slicing through her armor and skin, sinew, bone and soul. But the last elemental proved no more formidable than its predecessor, and was reduced to shadow, dust and stone.

She discharged her vow, and cleared out the area around the now-useless gate. There were chaos servants of all variety, summoned nasties, undead ghosts, but they were no match for her. But the King eluded her still.

Finally, in the room to the north, she felt an aura of bitter hate engulfing her. The air became hazy as if filled with a mist, but also blurred as from a heatwave. Towering in the central chamber, the Greater Demon of ancient times stood, still, waiting. There was an expression of utter hostility in his gaze, but Klawina also detected something else, a more primeval sensation. Fear.

The two antagonists stood still, each considering the other. Klawina was unhurt, and the demon had a moderately wound, but that would change very soon. Also Klawina was heavily corrupted, and knew that only a few hits would take her over the edge, steal her of her sanity and forever condemn her to an existence lower than life.

Then, with a mighty effort, and trailing his huge wings, the Demon sprang forward. Klawina, prepared, met his descent with a furious, desperate swing. She put all her strength into her attack, and at the same time knew that an immediate counterattack would be fatal. The demon moved his scourge swiftly, seeking to catch her axe...but for once not swiftly enough. The axe grazed the shaft of his scourge, continued on its path and bit deep, deep into his reeking flesh. The wound was serious, but not mortal. But it did unleash that primeval fear in the demon. Fistanarius would live to fight another day. One step towards freedom...then a biting sensation, and then the fall to the floor. Lying there, blood sprouting from his slashed hamstrings...he looked up. Above him there was a dark form, then there was a bright light, and then there was nothing.

The axe slashed through helmet, skull and clove that evil brain in half. There was a stir in the air, as if something tried to take form, but then there was a puff of wind, a wholesome draught, and the shadow forever departed the realm. This realm.

---------------

Klawina then arose to mighty fame. Rumor of her deed spread up through the dungeon, and reached the dwarves in their village, and the good people of terinyo. When she arrived in Terinyo after a long, weary journey, she accepted her congratulations, but then had an urgent conversation with the village druid. Based on his information, given out as she proved her worth by becoming level 30 (34, actually) she was able to find a hidden glen. She there learnt of a quest that could ease her troubled soul. The black unicorn was a powerful, raging creature spreading death wherever it would go. It paid the ultimate price for this. The White Unicorn, moved by her goodnees, agreed to cleanse her of all the hurt her soul had taken from the fierce struggle. Suddenly she was something closer to a mortal.

Later tragedy did indeed strike. And this I write with the knowledge of what lies ahead. This is no idle guess like so many before me. There was, at the final moment of glory, indeed the death of a loved one, one we have come to love after so many adventures.

It all began there, in the garden of the White Unicorn. Klawina wore her saintly shirt, and then read some books of magic. She learnt the "cure light wounds" spell. Then she drank potions of wonder, and fatefully learnt create item and ... wish.

She then went to Terinyo, and finally met up with her trusty dog, Tara. Taking her along, they travelled to the village dungeon, where they met the healer. Now Tara fought some monster, growing more powerful once, and after a while got hurt. Klawina used her healing spell, then chatted with the healer. He said he could teach her no more, and that she could have one of the potions he had been brewing in this dark room, all that time.

The dog was still hurt, so she healed it, and impressed the healer again. Take this potion, you.

Then there appeared another foe, which was killed, but wounded the dog slightly again. So heal, chat, another potion.

Then, disaster. Klawina used a spell she should not have.

And that led directly to the death.

She cast "summon monsters"

A pack of goblin slavemasters appeared, and they converged around the two, master and dog. And the dog was hurt, klawina could not kill the slavemasters fast enough. There, on village dungeon level 4, the brace and loved dog "Tara" gave up her life.

Klawina was hurt, and embittered by the loss. She travelled to the entrance to the valley, where she had stood so many years ago, and then went...

Hold on, what is that potion down there?
"Which, this 'potion of youth'? It is cursed, I'm not drinking that thing"
Well, it so happens that we have a holy water again, now, so let us bless and drink it.
"Okay....Hey I feel Grown up again!"
Yeah, 16 years old...not bad. And here, that gelee royal we were saving...
"Yeah?"
Lets bless and eat it.
"Wow, my skin feels so smooth again!"
Well there you go. MY farewell gift. Have a nice life, K!
"Well, thank you. I will."

And thus ended the adventures of Klawina in the valley. This valley. But little did she know that very soon, fate would
*SCHTWACK*
"I said cut it out"

And I knew I should have made her lawful.

------
Final thoughts(tm)

Scummin' used:
ID - scum. Not stair (just going up and down) but I did traverse ID:1-3 quite a few times for stuff.
Gremlin -scum. Made a water trap, let a fluff ball activate, and killed and pickpocketed a thousand gremlins for items.
Ore/smithing-scum. Used pickaxe repair to get an unlimited amount of ores, and hence ingots, allowing me to make some really nasty armor. Also used ant-created ore, and utilized gems from mining as well.
SI/Garth-scum. Let the SI multiply, sold it, and paid Garth to train stats.
Herbal-scum. Pacified the big room, harvested a thousand herbs total (approx.), got a precrowning and max Wi/Dex/To stats and good healing.
Healer-scum. Healed a pet to repeatedly get potions of ultra healing. Blessed ones. But this was after game was won.
Sickness/starvation/stat scum. Used these stat-lowering conditions to lower current stats, thus making them eligible for improvement.

Final words/Motto/Mantra:
"In ADOM, there is no such thing as overpreparing"

Thanks for following. I know you know, but for the record I did not save-scum, nor did I play much of the game before starting to post. I also wrote as I played. But I did a few times play two days at once. First two days were played in one sitting, as were two later ones. First because I simply though I'd make two mid-sized paragraphs, and second time because I just had to play on later and see how it went, and I knew I had little free time the next day. However, I did write as I went along still, and did not significantly edit (mostly corrected spelling [not enough] and rearranging sentences to make it clearer [definately not enough]) and did not alter any meaning. Oh yeah, the D:50 fight was written after the deed. Because it did not last long, game-timeishly.

So the days could have ended very early, but I think survival was largely due to the reasons zv so eloquently put it.

That was great fun, a very entertaining read I've looked forward to these past weeks, thank you. I hope more people try to write a story to go along with their characters adventures in ADOM, I've got a mind to do it myself. I think the humorous commentary and the quarrelling back and forth was my favorite part. Klawina took on a life all her own.

Yes it certainly did. It was a bit less bother with her when she grew smarter and older.

DiTLs don't have to be written in any specifical style, but all the ones I saw at that other forum were written 'as if' the author did not know what is gonna happen. This is, I think, the only criteria of traditional DiTLs. But need tradition be followed? Who can say.

Another good point of this: When I post it to the HoF, the S&EF will be already written...a bit longish, but still.
