When you use the stephescope onan undead being like a zombie it says:
"The zombie is slightly dead"

I kind of laughed too when it said "The ugly monster" msg

Just out of curiosity...

"You are suddenly surrounded in a globe of ethereal fire! The ratling duelist sqeaks in anger! The ratling duelist disarms you. Your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster goes flying to the north. Andor Drakon, the ElDeR cHaOs GoD picks up the blessed Trident of the Red Rooster."
haven't actually gotten that (i haven't even gotten past lvl 15...) but it's definitely possible... that would be a drag... hehe geuss it's time to whip out that Septer of Chaos (assuming you didn't drop it earlier, *g*)

Of course I took offense! Just because I'm a troll doesn't mean I'm ugly! (well, okay, it does mean I'm ugly, but did the computer have to point it out?! ;-P)

I've gotten variations of this message a few times: "This room seems devoid of all life. Some kind of herb bush seems to be growing here." Or "This room seems devoid of all life. The goblin rockthrower throws a rock at you." Devoid of all life? Artificial herbs and a mechanical goblin, right?

"The kobold screams "Mercy! Mercy!". The kobold hits you." Like I'm going to just stand there and let it beat the crap out of me because I feel sorry for it.

Two YAFMCs that fall under "glimpses of the blindingly obvious":

You are engulfed by the roaring flames! You sense imminent danger.... You die.

You study the unholy scriptures of Chaos. A voice in your head lectures you "*I* HEREBY PUNISH THEE, PUNY MORTAL!" Your equipment turns to dust. You feel as if transgressing some law.

[And I only wanted to change my alignment back from lawful to neutral.]

Duke, ROTFL!!! I've got to try making a character live long enough to see their birthday. (I am very newbie. My characters have a tendency to die very quickly. Even when I'm doing everything right. "Congratulations, you have reached level 10... a huge rock falls from the ceiling. Would you like to see the last messages before your death?")

You talk to Dak, the arena master.
"Hey, ye left the arena before ending the fight!"
"We don't like no cheaters!"
Dak, the arena master, whacks your head.
You are not very impressed.
The blow was pretty weak.
Dak, the arena master, seems to be annoyed.
He attacks you with a whirl of fluid motions in order to confuse you!
This doesn't seem to impress you either. It's pretty simple to see through those moves and you avoid any confusion.
Now Dak, the arena master, looks really annoyed.
Dak, the arena master, suddenly lifts his knee and hits you in a critical location!
"And now ye will fight!"
Suddenly you stand in the arena.
(paralyzed)

actually paralyzation is a worse thing to happen than the stunned/confused, but the message was pretty funny.

this happened to lvl26 human mindcrafter (male, obviously).
has anyone tried the same with female mindcrafters?

(i guess the raven -birthsign should do the same, harder to trick by deceptions or whatever it was).

Hmm... The messengers and deceptions mentioned under the Raven-sign seem to have quite a minor part in the game, right? I've never been "decepted" in ADOM... (Or perhaps I just didn't notice it?)

the deception part has to do mostly with dopplegangers... ravens don't get confused as easily.

i never noticed them. but i'll scum some more (just because i don't have anything better to do, i'm tired of trying to beat it). also i never take Tywat Pare's quest, as i always either die or hit lvl 6 before i find Kranach, or die trying to kill him.
of corse kobolds do show up pretty often in Black Wizard encounters.
you know what i think would be cool? is if encounters varyed based on the lvl of the player. would make wilderness scumming harder. like once you're around lvl 25 or so Troll raiding partys would start showing up (maybe some trolls, maybe even a troll chief) and orc scouting partys get larger (orc warbands?) etc. and other groups would overall be generated at higher levels??
of course it'd ruin anyone's day to be wilderness scumming with a lvl 40 char you've worked on for a long time, and run into a high level Greater Red Dragon in a swamp. =D

The encounters are already based on the level of your character (well, sort of). You start encountering bigger and badder monsters when you reach lvl 25 (IIRC). Lucky guess?

'Cause this isn't the spoiler forum I'll leave it to you to find the new monsters...

"the dark orc grunts at you in a friendly manner"
"how many gold pieces do you want to give"
"the dark orc takes the gold pieces"
"the dark orc seems to panic"
"do you really want to backstab the dark orc"
"you stab the dark orc into a mangled heap"
"you pick up the 1 gold piece"

hahahaha!

"You feel as if something is wrong with your perception of this room, but you aren't sure what it is. This room is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue."

So I can't tell why I can't see, but I do know it's completely dark? I've got a huge learning score but apparently I don't have the sense Thomas gave a si.

actually that message would be more like "You sense something is wrong with your perception of this room, but can't tell what it is by looking around. You have moved into a dark place. It's pitch black here. You are likely to be eaten by a grue." well duh you can't tell what's wrong w/ it by looking around, it's kinda pitch black. i wonder what that message would be if you were blind?

This is not a funny message, rather rare situation.

"You hit the female dark orc with full force and slay her."
After this line I see the darc orc still standing on the same square. I began to think...

"Use the movement keys to position the cursor. Abort with [SPACE] or [Z].
An uncursed hill orc sergeant statue (weight: 2000s) is standing here."

....... I guess she really loved that sergeant.
