My elven wizard still lives this is a very new thing to me. I did not know that such a thing was possible. All though I bruned my mana stat learning how to recharge wands, he is doing very well. I did get stuck with the ape corruption for a few and that killed his wis. and int. lame. I also had to use pools to get a amulet of life saving, I hate pools. I did have a few questions: Is there a limit to how much speed you can get from killer bugs? Also I have after many pc deaths buy mistake learned how to kill that dam Shyssiryxius, I miss a key and by mistake cast darkness what a dum dragon. But I take to big a alignment hit is there a way around that? One more I was under the understanding that dwarves made the dungeon under dwarf town. If that is so how is it that I always find a 25 foot tall titan down there?

I died to my carelesness, as usually. My somewhat promising gnomish wizard (lvl 14, knew lots of good spells, like teleportation, invisibility, magic map, bless etc etc), was frozen by a ogre mage. Now I'm wondering what I shall do next. Maybe some schoolwork since I'm in school :P

i'm not expert, but in my understanding top trap trick:

all levels has fixed trap layout.
trap layout for false maze levels is different from ones you wanna be in.
so then you found trap you can calaculate top trap (top left corner) and know whether level is false ot not. you just need to have a table of top traps:)
saves char for a hell of work.

anyway i believe bottom three levels are too tough without magic map and demand teleportion anyway. false walls, minotaur mages...

Not for the maze. A blessed scroll will reveal the entire layout of a level. The spell won't do that; it can take a long time to find the down stairs just by casting it over and over again.

Well, since I'm a mindcrafter i'll have to use a wandofwonder till I learn magic mapping , then book cast it and get lucky hopefully and just teleport to stairs if visible....or I could drink pools and try to wish for scrolls

So, i'm having this excellent 15 level dwarven priest. He has been precrowned twice (Bracers of war and Whirlwind) and he's crowned. His crowning gift was useless two-handed hammer, because he have been using daggers from the start. I already have one Phase Dagger and i mainly use Orcish Dagger of Mayhem. I'm planning to do lot's of stuff before ToEF and then kill the wyrm with wand of stunning and dualwielded daggers. Simple and maybe effective. Maybe this time i can kill the bastard :)

Hey, i'm playing mostly offensive dwarven priest with daggers, what really could be cooler? Btw, i have made some progress with this char, i'm lvl 19 now. I cleared dark forge easily (bless you phase dagger!), i cleared dwarven graveyard and made all the other quests for the old cranky dwarf too. I only lack a wish now... Maybe i should drink all the pools at the Dark Forge? And damn spells, i only have skill 9 at knives and daggers :(

if you don't find it in pools check the water dragon's cave. if you have darkness, a means of teleportation and teleport control, look for an admantanium ring. I think dwarves usually see RoDS as admantanium rings because RoDS are made of admantanium and dwarves are metal-literate. This also means that a rusty ring (admantanium doesn't rust) or a ring described as gold/iron/mithril won't be a RoDS for a dwarf. At least, it never is for my dwarvish paladins.

YES!! YES!! My priest killed the ancient wyrm without much problems! It's my first time winning ToEF! And one of the Grues dropped Robes of Resistance!

Edit: I'm level 23 now. I still lack wish and i lost my Phase Dagger at the ToEF :(

Edit: 24lvl and i just got the Ring of the high kings. And i'm leaving khelavaster to die. i still haven't gotten any wishes and i drinked all the pools i have found and i checked mother dragons cave too. Awww, poo :(

I can't speak for dwarves, but I know that no rings except RoDS, rings of fire, rings of damage and rings of slaying are composed of adamantium. As a result, if the above were accurate, dwarves would recognise all of these four rings as adamantium rings.

The only sure fire way I know to recognise a RoDS is to save all opal rings, onyx rings, ordinary rings and adamantium rings - these are the four unidentified ring names which ALWAYS represent a ring made from adamantium and discovering one of each in a game guarantees that you have discovered a RoDS as well as a rings of damage, slaying and fire.

In a similar way you can always narrow down the possible identities of the rings which are made from mithril. There is only one. A mithril ring is always a ring of ice.

i suggest killing water dragon. with drakness and being expert in rustproof phase dagers it should be quite easy.

p.s. why you need two wishes after saving/ not saving sage? i don't recall anything that cannot be got from restocking casino for example.

Oh noes, my unbeatable gnomish healer got pwned at lvl36 by mimic hivemind. This happened just after I had wiped out a red dragon vault. max health almost 600 and SoS with lvl12 sword skill, shields at lvl 11(22+dv), on normal mode dv87, pv 35ish.

Damned.

Well, lesson learned. Equip amulets of free action next time. If you don't have Preserver (or the Holy Scarf), I think it's actually one of the best choices in the endgame.

Well, I just did a nice Chaos God Ending with my Hurthling Necromancer! Scratch that class, 11 (or something) to go.

Next char to make it will be my own personal "Drizzt" challenge. Dark elven ranger, starts with two scimitars. I'm not sure if I should restrict him to scimitars only or allow daggers and other swords to be wielded. If I do scimitars only I imagine he would need to find scimitars with special effects, and that would sorta be a pain. So I guess I'll allow scimitars/daggers/mabye swords. But definately always dualwield.

Not that much of a challenge, I know, but I'm lazy, and not much of a masochist so...

Never gotten far with a ranger, surprising enough.

Seems like skillset isn't everything.

I once got a really powerful ranger. He died because I didn't cast Darkness before I picked up a glowing wand... Otherwise, he probably would've won.

Reading Höpsönassukka's char, I decided to make a dwarven priest :D He's currently level 20, has executor(precrowned, lucky me)sold purifier, sold long sting, has crown of lightning, got an AoLS RIGHT AFTER I TALKED TO HIM!!!!I literally walked three steps from the stairs after talking to him, killed a rat, and Voila! Steel Amulet , ID'd it, AoLS.....Grrrr...And I also got the annoying astral planes corruption, since I have no tele control, so I'm going to go to HMV, even though I'v never entered SMC before, so I may die trying to get a cure for this corruption....

My Drizzt challenge update (play Dark elven Ranger, Use swords/daggers only, and always dual wield): Finally got a good character going - first precrown: Jet-black battle AXE. Cry. Well it will sell for a bit of cash I guess.

Or mabye anyone who has read many of those Drizzt books can tell me that he did in fact use AXEs too? Ive only read one, where he used twin scimitars all the time...
