> Descended towards Dwarftown. Was there still a stash of items on the level below the big room? I was going to collect that mess for sale also, but ran out of turns. > But immediately a dwarven child stepped in and > picked up the smith's hammer and anvil! Obviously > a budding apprentice, but he was in my bloody way. Reading that was hilarious. It's one of those things that's funny to invision. A life and death struggle between a vile greater deamon and a gray elven champion of balance. Glod, the noble dwarven weapon smith is cruely slain in the chaotic fray. A dwarven child happens along. Paying no attention to the violence and blood all around, takes a fancy to the unguarded anvil. "Always wanted one of those!" He manages to pick up the full sized anvil, (how?!) and promptly gets slain for it. Let that be a lesson for all dwarven children everywhere. > Stupid me forgot to get smithing. Not a big loss if you ask me. Sure, it would have been nice to beef up some stuff, but who wants to spend their turn putting a couple of points on some helmet? Rhea is tough enough to not need it anyway. > Sold huge amounts of junk (30 rocks anyone?) That was most likely me. On my way through the big room, I just started picking up whatever junk I came across. She had the carrying cappacity, and it all equals gold at Dwarftown. I didn't notice the rocks though : ) > Crowning gift: Trusted One Merchants have a 50% chance of getting a good one. I was hoping for a Crown or at least the Boots. I suppose that no one PC, can get the best stuff ALL the time. > As you can see we're quite lacking resistances > - importantly acid I had an ant corpse on my turn, I left it alone thinking we already had -acid. Humble suggestion, perhaps now would be a good time to bless those scrolls of melee accuracy/damage. Maybe applying the accuracy to the mithril long sword of devastation (+0, 5d8+9). The damage scrolls might best compliment the battle axe of penetration. Also, with smithing out of the picture, the scrolls of protection and defense should also be blessed and used. I would say on the girdle, as that would be the piece of higher metal equipment, that we are most likely to keep for the rest of the game. I meant passing the save file around of course ; ) Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |

>Was there still a stash of items on the level below >the big room? I was going to collect that mess for >sale also, but ran out of turns. There were a couple of stashes I saw, but didn't bother rifling through them and selling stuff. Mostly invaluable junk, and at this stage I don't find money to be particularly useful. >Merchants have a 50% chance of getting a good one. >I was hoping for a Crown or at least the Boots. I >suppose that no one PC, can get the best stuff ALL >the time. I was just thinking "please not the gauntlets!" At least it's an easy source of acid resistance to switch to if we run into a high level vortex. With regards to the scrolls, I agree on the melee ones - only thought of doing so myself after I'd already passed my turns. As for the defense/protection, I usually save those for SLBs, which we'll hopefully pick up from the Casino. However, the adamantium girdle may be a safer bet against equipment destruction, and you're right in that we'll likely keep it the rest of the game (eternium girdles are rare and only 1 PV more). Protection scrolls might be best saved for SLBs though, since they won't be as effective on the girdle and girdles do tend to get their PV punched off by piercing attacks. >I meant passing the save file around of course ; ) I bet you did, you dirty old man... :P Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

Who is Miss Daisy? If you get Rhea killed by him, you know we'll kill you. If you get her back alive plus a couple of levels, it's not like we can comlain about it, right? You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?" Which direction? 1) We are not male, we cannot use wedding rings to make her non-hostile. Bringing her to the forest will net you a horrible death from an extremely experienced banshee. 2) We have little in the way of humanoid slaying, not particularly high speed, no proper on-demand teleportation and no SLBs. You seriously want to take on the eternal guardian like that? The ethics of both are dodgy, the risk of both are high, the rewards of both are unneeded and the sense in either is hard to find. Just my two cents :P Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." [Edited 1 time, last edit on 3/21/2008 at 15:20 (GMT -5) by Darren Grey] |

I've always passed the EG with RotHK so I can't tell how hard it really is but what I've heard is that it's a monstrosity in melee. The duplicating thingy has always sounded like it is impossible to kill. The exp it gives can be high but... We have the RotHK right? If I remember right it should stay near the stairway after you have shown the ring to it. So I think we could return later on if we really want to kill it. It's not necessary, there are many other things that can yeld lot of exp. "The white baby dragon equips the small shield." WTF :D |

The eternal guardian disappears once you give him the ring. You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! If Rhea had more toughness, killing the EG would be pretty safe. As things are, I would just show the ring and pass. We should have plenty of fun with the Cat Lord though : ) EDIT: > Where is our teleportation wand? Did it get >destroyed? It was there in Darren's screenshot. We have so many wands now, you may have just missed it in the shuffle. I hope. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! [Edited 1 time, last edit on 3/22/2008 at 13:31 (GMT -5) by gut] |

EG can be taken out with the right tactics, but you need the right equipment. When the second one spawns he's not hostile, so that isn't a problem - you can pass him by with the ring even. He has around 1k hit points and hits like a greater moloch. I really think someone needs to kill the banshee quickly. Anyone remember exactly which level the forest's on? What's to stop any of us accidentally going up there, forgetting she's there waiting? She could scream the moment the PC goes up the stairs, meaning an extremely stupid death. One player on their own might remember well enough, but with so many of us playing a mistake is far too easy to happen. Regarding the teleport wand, there was one with 2 charges in the inventory when I finished - it should still be there. We also have 1 scroll. After we pass the EG, we will be using the DF shortcut, so it shouldn't be a problem. It would be a mess if one of us forgot though. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |

I say move on. Soon the next player will pass the EG and enter the casino, which should be a decent boost to us. Lets hope for a wish or 7lbs. Or both. Next tough fight is cat lord - he can be bypassed or killed, next player could take the inventory of number of killed cats and see how tough he might be. Air temple should be easy enough, one can do it "naked", carrying only indestructible items. And Earth temple will merely be a good source of exp (just be careful about getting surrounded by mentals). Greater vaults might turn up soon too. |

Earth temple with several penetration weapons in the pack? Quite a piece of cake! I don't remember off-hand, but wasn't the dooming-vault creation relation a myth? EDIT: Just curious: Why the hell are we wearing a blessed ring of damage with two rings of slaying in our pack? Does it give a slight bit more of a melee damage boost? You drop the golden ball. I don't know about vaults, but I've always believed that tension rooms are more frequently generated. Might be wrong, though. |

It's about same +melee damage on damage and slaying rings. So put on slayer, for the missile damage. I considered slaying ring on left finger, but went "safe" with the TotHK ring's DV and PV and resists. About earth temples and such - the character is a fair bit weaker than most I have taken through the D's (D:30 - D:48 is usually very easy for my typical post-fire-tower-overprepared characters). Mabye we need to build some more power? Vaults are generated on startup, I tested this once. You always get a lesser vault on the same levels when replaying a saved-cheated game. Different types of vault, though. So if one was into that sort of thing, one could reload if a greater undead vault was generated and hope for a different type. Cat lord is tough with only 200 hps. Three good hits = dead character. Glad we still have the 2nd dwarven fireball wand, that is usually how I kill him - burn him till he flees and then shoot him in the back with slaying ammo. Earth temple is all about not going too far in, but wait and give the mentals time to close in, using stairs to drag them to a different level if you get many. This character would not want to get surrounded. But if played right, it should be free exp, and I would probably do it before air temple, even. Low hit points can be fixed with experience - more levels, quaffing blessed healing potions and training toughness more. We'd need more herbs for the last one to work. |

I can safely say that I have gotten PCs through the lower CoC levels successfully that were less powerful. We have quite enormous DV and PV and weapons, and superior equipment. I concur on the cat lord, we should maximize toughness before engaging him, maybe get some levels. Let's see what CoC 31-34 have in store for us. The BEST method to defeat the cat lord is luring him a level higher - best done probably by detecting him with a wand, and loafing around in the area around the stairs up until he shows up. Coward mode on, lure him, immediately teleport away. Then we try to get eight or more squares of hallway between him and us and use our wands of webbing, then our many arrows, preferably the humanoid slaying ones of course (poisoned). In addition to the webs, we can use our new-found wand of paralyzation - which is, IMHO, one of the best items in the wand category, probably even the best after the wand of wishing and the wand of destruction. We'd spend far less turns near the guy if we went this route - at least I believe so. It depends on how well the luring method works. We still might be able to web a hallway on the cat lord level, and paralyze him while standing a fair way away from him. Fighting the cat lord without teleportation is something I'd not feel safe doing, though. Whoever engages the cat lord hopefully knows what he's doing. We have all sorts of methods of dealing with him; he or she should remember that. Our herbs would take us far longer if some people didn't eat eight morgia at once! Since when are we trolls? For the Cat Lord, I always lead off with a potion of confusion, if I have it. Blindness works too, just not as good. I think our wands and ammo will make short work of him. Luring him down the stairs gives him a free swing at you. About the morgia, I *think* the toughness training will carry over. The next player can just not eat morgia, and we should still have a good chance for a TO increase. Hope I don't jinx us with this, but I think Rhea's chances of winning, is very high at this point. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |

I believe you can eat as many morgia as you want, the benefit gets saved up. Guidebook is definately out-of-date on this issue. However we have very little morgia left, so no worries anyway. Ideas for next player: Bless the two uncursed Ultra healing potions (might as well). When hurt - use the Ultra first, then Extras (we gain more max HP from them) Also, Bless and drink the 7 uncursed healing potions. They have a chance to add extra Max hp, and are useless for healing (far worse than spense or pepper roots) Do any game turns pass while gambling? I seem to remember my chars getting very hungry after gamling, for some reason...mabye its just one turn, but much time? [Edited 1 time, last edit on 3/24/2008 at 21:58 (GMT -5) by Molach] |

> I believe you can eat as many morgia as you want, the > benefit gets saved up. I think there may be a cap on it. With my gray elven wizards, I have waited for DEX to get to 24, then used many mosses. It seems to make little difference, whether I use 10 or 40 mosses, I still end up with DEX at 27. > Do any game turns pass while gambling? It is just one turn per session. The hunger and stunning aspects did not happen in ADOM 1.0.0 and before. As far as I know, not much game time passes when gambling. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |

There is indeed a cap on it, test it if you want be eating 2000 morgia after getting 1 willpower due to eating at the bug temple. This number means nothing without any corresponding numbers, so this won't corrupt your soul, but the training value can range from -5000 to 5000. |

I don't think so...I haven't seen Iridia post in the past few days, what was the time limit supposed to be again? Regardless, we should be approaching it, and at that point, wouldn't Silfir just sent it on to the next one in the list? I haven't made a time limit at any point because I don't like putting pressure on people who just might have a tight schedule but want to play anyway. A quick "file received" or "where the hell is that goddamn file, who messes up a simple task such as sending something per email attachment anyway" (don't shoot me please) would be very helpful! (Could it be that my email address got marked as spam? I know I tend to ramble, nitpick, write overly long guides and talk bullshit on certain roguelike game forums, but that's a bit harsh, yahoo!) Yet I guess if she doesn't give us some information as to the file's whereabouts, or whether she wants to sit out for a while due to lack of time, or any word at all, I'll send the file to the guy next on the list this Sunday.
